If the max size of the herds is 36, and you're maxing each one out, why do you need to sperate the herds by ten tiles?? Wouldn't it still start a new herd since the one near it is already full?
Once one of your herds gets infected, brightshades from the following waves will not be able to infect other plants in a 7.5 tile radius of an existing brightshade. So at minimum, you could make a new bait area 8 tiles away from each other. I just found that sometimes, if you did place the bait pens 8 tiles apart but something did happen to some of your crops in some pens (say somehow some of them got harvested or uprooted), the domestic plant herds would merge and fill themselves out to the max size. I guess technically the end result would be the same, but I figured that then trying figure out which plants belonged to which herd would be a bigger headache for most people compared to just placing them 11 tiles apart from each other, in case there was something else people wanted to do in between each bait pen. But otherwise, you could make a setup where there is a greater than 7.5 tiles distance from each plot if you want a smaller size and you are confident nothing will happen.

They are quite difficult to kill when there are multiple of them. Your best bet honestly is having a Brightshade Sword, Sanity Food, and the Celestial Crown so you can kill each one in 13 hits compared to 18. I try a few different ways, depending on how they spawned. Sometimes I try kiting two vines will focusing down one Brightshade and can lucky where two vines sync with each other. When I do this, I try to get 3 hits in, dodge the other vines, 3 hits, dodge, and then like 2 more hits before having to do it all again. Other times, I weaken two Brighshades (by breaking their weak spots), try to get 5-6 hits off of both of them, weaken them again and then try to get the kill so I just have to fight one. Admittedly, they do still kick my butt at times as I do take a lot of damage from them.
In your example, there are 3 herds. Two are max size of 36, one is size 13. Each herd has a chance to be infected, but since they are all in a 4 tile radius, if you don't kill any brightshades while the rift is up, you're not gonna get more than 3 Brightshades in that pen (so it's 1 big herd, but not really). If you did kill the Brightshades each time they spawned, they'd keep spawning somewhere in your grass area with increased probability since you got 3 herds in there (of course that's assuming you have say 5 herds in your world, with 2 of them being somewhere else).
@@LakhnishMonster Thanks. Once domestic herd is created, where does it center reside (the point from which 10 tile radius search is made)?
