I hate wen people do this comparison. Even with the hobbit tolkien wote less books in a longer span of time vs. a song of ice and fire. He also died with multiple books unfinished that had to be completed by others or where compiled with other works just to get his ideas and writings out to the public.
People need to really calm down on martin. He's done more far quicker than the guy everyone compares him with and still has a lot to give. Also that doesn't include side projects like dunk and egg, house of the dragon, or the other series' he has written for also.

He did but the only reason ‘The hobbit’ was published was because C.S.Lewis broke into his home and stole his writings. Lewis knew Tolkien would never finish editing it, so he took it into his own hands and arranged for the pair to met only to go and break into his house instead.

It's George's creation, it's his world, and he made all the names, but he says he doesn't personally hold to specific pronunciations very much. He has no problem with people pronouncing words differently than he does, and me personally I think dothraki, as in "Doe-Thrak-Eee" sounds better than his pronunciation of "Doe-Thrak-Eye". So I'm gonna keep pronouncing it that way. But that's just me.

There's a small humorous nod to that in the show actually in season 2, where Bronn and Tyrion discuss how to pronounce the name of Maester Ch'vyaltar, they all come up with different ideas and at the end Varys shows up and gives his own. Ultimately the implication is that Varys us correct, but that's still only one way to look at it.

Well, some of what he's describing do have their parallels in history. On the matter of taking Theon as a "ward" or hostage, for instance, when Stephen of Blois fought against his cousin Empress Matilda for the English throne, his side took William Marshall, the son of the leader of Matilda's forces, to guarantee a truce. The father, John Marshall, immediately broke his word, saying that he could sire more children and Stephen was faced with the dilemma of needing to hang the boy. (He decided not to in the end and instead cared for him, but still, the threat was there, as with comparable situations in history.)

Yeh exactly which is why his some what betrayal of the Starks, (after Ned’s death) in trying to take control of Winterfell worked against him. It was the opposite mistake Ned made!
While Ned mistakenly heald on to his honor while not considering other such as the Lanisters had plan of their own, Theon betrayed his honorary title as a Stark to take Winterfell not considering others such as the Boltons had plans of their own.
Theon could have have helped hold onto Winterfell for the Starks and the men of north being loyal to Stark would have backed him. But no, Theon feeling the insults of his father and sister left him to prove his loyalty to the people of the Iron Islandswho wouldn’t protect him all the same.
Theons lack of identity and Ned’s disposition tward honor lead them both wide open to betrayal. In this world people want what others have and they fight for survival, it’s unlikely a name that doesn’t carry any weight in Theon’s case or simple sheet of paper in Ned’s case would stop anyone.

I can't prove this, and given that she's dead we may never know, but I have suspicions that Doreah was a mole and actively tried to create tension between Viserys and Dany. That chapter where she told Viserys that Dany "commanded" he join her for dinner when Dany specifically said "ask" him to join her "if it please him" has always nagged at me because that's a pretty sizeable mistake. I think Doreah was spying for someone on Robert's council, but we're supposed to think Jorah was the only source of information. Specifically as it pertains to Dany's pregnancy. What was is Barristan tells Dany later...
"...since the day you wed Khal Drogo, there has been an informer by your side selling your secrets, trading whispers to the Spider for gold and promises."
First, Jorah wasn't the only person who entered into Dany's service on her wedding day. Doreah did as well. Second, Jorah didn't spy for gold or promises; he spied for a pardon so he could return home. Doreah on the other hand, a sex worker, could be bought w/gold and promises...

@@janhalouzka8582 Thanks. It goes even deeper. If you dissect the scene where the council deliberates Dany's pregnancy, the entire thing is written pretty ambiguously. Nobody names Jorah as the source; in fact you get the impression that the council had been discussing the matter prior to Ned's arrival. But as soon as he gets there NED names Jorah as the informant and questions the accuracy of the report. Varys simply says Jorah wouldn't lie to him and that the report is true. Not that Jorah was the source; just that Jorah wouldn't lie and that this intel is good. So again, Jorah is seemingly implicated but there's enough wiggle room for Varys to be talking about two different people. Jorah doesn't lie when he does report, and the pregnancy tip is also true. Doesn't mean Jorah relayed it.

It's just a theory, but I like the logic of it. You won't start a conflict with someone that keeps one of your sons/daughters a hostage. Doing that has a chance of killing them in response to your attack, and you can only blame yourself for the death of the son/daughter.

He was still writing on the show and working with D&D when most of the Dothraki stuff was going down in Essos - they even had a guy create the Dothraki language! And nobody - _nobody!_ - ever said "Dothrak-eye" until now, when he's doing this foolishness. If this really was the case, do we not think he might have mentioned it to the writers, actor and Dothraki Linguist in, oh I don't know, say season one episode one when they were first mentioned by name? Just like he's now pretending it's "Bar-lon" Greyjoy when everyone has been calling him "Bay-lon" Greyjoy without correction all these years! It's clear that the visions of he and D&D diverged long ago and he's none too happy about the way the show went, but this is just petty.

In the books Dany escaped the House of Undying running, after Drogon burns some of the warlocks and is saved by Jhogo and Rakharo. She conquers Astapor being tricky and using the unsullied, burning Kraznys is just a detail. Also Drogon definitely doesn't come to rescue and protect her at Daznak Arena, but rather is atracted by noise and blood and just adds to the chaos. Same of Rhaegal and Viserion in the 2nd battle of Meereen. George never intented her dragons to be used as deus ex machina, not until now.

BUT because its all there, they keep themselves in check. Gods cant just kill servants of another god. i mean, they can but they dont cuase of what will happen to them, etc. in battles, arch mages fight demons etc while soldiers fight the other foot soldiers, etc.

You could also view wizards as nuclear missiles, essentially serving as weapons of pacification. You don't assemble an army because you know the enemy will use a powerful wizard against you, and vice versa.

To me Drogo was going to give him Yi Ti, Drogo was heading east of Vaes Dothrak and the only thing east is the Bone Mountain and east of that is the Plain of the Jogo Snai and Yi Ti
To me it makes sense as the Dothraki are base of the Mongols and they conquered China, also when a Nomad tribe conquer a kingdom they usually didn’t crown themselves kings but put a loyal person in the throne who would pay them tribute, Viserys would have become the emperor of Yi Ti and maybe taken the title of Ruby Emperor

You know, I really hated Viserys for the longest time. He was just portrayed as this delusional wretch, so warped by what he thinks is entitled to him that he was willing to hurt Dany in exchange. He was willing to trade Dany for the throne, for any chance at it really. But then when I think about it, he could have had the greatest hero story of all time, but he didn't - because life is fucking hard. He lost everything in the Rebellion. His royalty, his family save his sister, his mother, everything - and then is forced to live in some foreign land to start again. When Ser Willem Darry died, he lost everything he had left. He went from Prince of Seven Kingdoms to a pitiful beggar in a foreign land. That is brutal. And it's sad that the trauma he endured transformed him into such a delusional wretch of a man.

All of this makes sense but then again, GOT was a good show until the last seasons, especially season 8 where nothing any character does makes any sense. It was like watching lord of the rings with dc joker being the main character in the last movie.

speaking of Theon... the more i think about it, the more i realize it made absolutely zero fucking sense that Ned kept Theon. Look at all the soul searching that Ned had to do to find the conviction to kill a wolf that had done nothing, and look at how he fought Robert over killing Daenarys, he actually gave up being Hand over the command; now try to imagine Ned killing Theon if Theon's poppa violated the conditions of his surrender. It wouldn't happen. I can't imagine Ned using the sins of the Father to hurt an innocent third-party. Infact the only way I can even rationalize Ned having kept Theon so he didn't end up with a Lord who might *actually* kill Theon (Robert for instance.)
Just makes you wonder what Old Ned would have done if Pyke ever stepped out of line. Obviously he had to have wanted to send him back to Pyke when he was ready to rule, but it just begs the question how would he have explained himself if he had a hostage and then failed to do anything with him.

Your average father really doesn't want someone to kill his son, even if he suspects that the would-be-killed may be bluffing and there's a big chance that the threat won't be carried out. The possibility of your son dying is still a pretty big deterrent.
Plus Balon isn't omniscient. He doesn't have our benefit of being inside Ned's head as we read his chapters. From Balon's point of view, Ned is the guy who started and then won a rebellion. Obviously starting a rebellion killed a whole lot of people. Do you really want to bet that this respected military commander won't kill your son if you invade him?
Plus Ned letting the Iron Islanders pillage and rape their way through the North would also lead to a lot of dead children.

I hope the series is re-done one day and, with more GRRM material, maybe they can land the ending this time instead of morphing the series into a dumb Hollywood blockbuster. If it's ever remade, the writers need to keep tabs on the larger movements of that world GRRM created instead of just focusing on special personalities protected by plot armour.

Viserys and Daenarys relationship with the Dothrakik reminds me a lot of Peter III and his wife Catherine the Great from Russia. Both were Prussians but once they were in the Russian Monarchy, Catherine chose to learn Russian and incorporate with Russian culture/politics while Peter chose to stick with German and look at the Russians with contempt despite being their ruler. Catherine would dispose of his husband pretty quickly as the common Russian quickly liked Catherine more

I know in the books version Daenerys is the child of Rhaegar Targeryen and Lyanna Stark. She the baby in the Tower of Joy. Because her grandfather is the Knight Bonifer Hasty, she is not inbred like Viserys who is 2 generations back of inbreeding. That why Viserys act the way he does.
