Nice to see you take your old string with you. A lot of people just don't know how to get rid of their old string, it helps the fish and the water ways. Just wanted to say thanks again for being a real friend of the environment!!
Tiny little creek bass are just as much fun to catch as that six pounder at the lake and every now and again when you get that 5-6 pounder out of the creek, it’s a undescribable feeling lol for every 5 pound bass in the creek there’s 10,000 in the lake. Big bass out of small unstocked water is next level in the game.
I watched your videos anxiously all of last week while I was sitting at my desk at work, planning a creek fishing adventure in the Texas hill country. Made it out to a small town that had a ton of rivers and streams and spent the day fishing at two of them and landed 9 red ear/ bluegill, 1 small largemouth bass, and somehow a 5lb black river catfish. Great Saturday of creek fishing!
This video perfectly captures the magic of creek fishing! The combination of peaceful scenery and heart-pounding moments when fish explode on the topwater is just exhilarating. I couldn’t help but smile when you finally hooked that big one after all the close calls. Truly a fantastic adventure that leaves me wanting to grab my rod and head out to the water!
Watching from an old cabin built in 1947 in northern Michigan. Black flies are bad if no wind yikes!!!! Been fishing with little success, maybe the heat and the water is cloudy hopefully it gets better. GREAT VID👍
Another great video man! Good to see you using the BFS again I’ve been using mine a lot lately for small whopper plopper style baits and it works really well.
I’m so jealous of people who have fishing spots like this where they live, I live on California and there is NONE, these videos keep me at bay lol. Great vid
I live in California and I’m 5 minutes from the creeks , lakes , reservoirs and if you wanted to go salt fishing I’m a hour away from San Francisco Bay . Let me know what area your from and I could help you out !!
Excellent!!! With top water baits I have to constantly think before I cast. If something blows up on the bait you need to drop your rod tip then crank the reel a couple of times then set the hook...works for me. I don't know what startled that snake but it turned and headed in the other direction. Thanks for sharing and have a Blessed Day!
My Zephyr reel does the same thing, I'll try some of the suggestions here. Plus, my rule of thumb for topwater hits is "wait for weight". When you feel weight in your rod set the hook. Great video!
The first was a common water snake. 2nd one was cotton mouth/water moccasin. You are fine as long as you let the poisonous ones do they're thing and move along.
always good to hear about people taking public fish for their private ponds, took part in a bust of two individuals using throw nets at local public ponds/parks for bluegill and then selling these to land owners with private ponds. this is stealing from all of us.
Looks like the cricks I get to fish when I Can them fish them. The surprise fish are the best. Catching sunfish one minute The next minute 13 or 14 inch bass, you gotta love it.
Man, I’ve got a kastking Spartan and a Piscifun carbon, I can’t use less than 8 lb line on them without them sucking that line in the side of the spool, it helps ALOT if you leave a 1/4 spool showing when you fill it, but they have sloppy tolerance
I think that premature hook set at 10:12 was a direct result of not having pliers with you if I’m not mistaken John. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve done stuff like that lol.
I know... everybody wants to yank the rod when you see a topwater explosion! If you get in the habit of not watching your lure and waiting to feel something, and set the hook by feel your hookup ratio will be much better😅. And I'm sure the more you fish that BFS system the more you will love it❤!!!
That was a fun video. That issue with the BFS reel/line would wear on me pretty good. Still trying to get the hang of the casting mechanics here, been a spinning reel guy since I was a little ‘un. And now I’m old 😆
I love these wading videos. Is that four pound braid you have on that reel? If so you are a brave man. It is so easy for braid that small to creep over the edge of the spool. I thought most all of those ultra light bait casters had a quick release side plate to enable you to just pop the spool out.
That's another good one buddy. You and Ethan Fish Anything make me want to give BFS a try. I love stalking through the creeks and casting til my hearts content taking it all in. I know I'm an old dog learning new tricks but not topwater. The hardest part of it is counting 1 Mississippi in your head after seeing the strike then pulling back to set the hook. Many times the fish set the hook themselves and I'm just along for the ride. Blessings brother
Yeah baby! Topwater! A suggestion.. keep your batteries in a ziplock in a cooler before you load your camera. Then put an ice pack in your tackle pack with your extra batteries.. that should help with the over heating.🤙
Another great video John! About the reel, yeah that’s one of the downfalls of that reel. The only way to overcome the line going in behind is use thicker line. I have one of those rigged but I prefer my 2 Darkwolf Ultra reels. About 70 bucks and cast as good as possible with the lightest of lures. Even the trout magnet is possible with a light braid.
Pretty sweet buddy, I tore em up in the creek/river near my house yesterday with a senko worm, landed 7 or 8 and missed about a dozen lol, pretty decent bass too, Thanks For Sharing, Good Luck🎣
John the Zephyr is known for the line going behind the spool. That’s why it is better to use the Japanese braid in .6 goh and only crank the handle on the reel about 55 times and do not put any more line than that on it. And the amount of cranks is about 125 feet of line. Hope this helps.
John id really love to see you try the Geecrack bellows gill! They make a 2 and 2.8 inch that I’m curious to see whether or not would do good in the creeks you fish. They’re on tackle warehouse
Is that the entry level Kastking BFS? I had that one too, the line was always slipping off the spool. I upgraded to the better model from KK and haven't had that problem anymore.
I bet a good sized fish flashed that snake. Years ago, I used to fish this swamp. Normally I don't keep bass, but I kept one to eat, and when I cleaned it, it had what was left of a snake in its stomach.
i use that same reel, the anything 6lb and below is prone to do that to you alot on the spool. I found that 8lb braid to a 2-6lb mono leader works well.
Great video. Some nice catches. The reason the line is getting past the spool into the side plates is you have to much line on the reel. Try only putting about 50-60 meters of line on the reel should help keep that from happening.
Use any you like. I topwater fish mostly with braid. Using mono or fluoro is very stuff and will get backlashes more often. Spray down with wd40 to make it flex easier.
Down here in Australia you ain’t gonna catch much in a creek sadly. Unless you’re a Tasmanian lol. I went to Tasmania last weekend and I caught my PB bream in a small creek that was connected to the beach by a trickle!
What are even talking about? Saratoga, yellow belly, Mary river cod, barramundi? You must have your head buried in shit to not know your own creek species. 😂
@@CreekFishingAdventures After using my baitcaster/bfs for the first time yesterday I agree with you lol. Bit of a regret purchase. Ah well was chinese cheap. The bird nesting is a real frustration and the only way i can cast it safely is by upping the brakes which means maximum 10meter casts. Idea for tiny streams / creeks but spin rod for anything else.
Change out the hooks on ur minnow bait, I switch mine out with either Gamagatsu or Owner hooks and rarely miss a fish. Great vids brother, love creek fishing.
John, saw your truck next to the creek I assume the day you made this last week. I will try my luck on Sunday. Have you ever tried on the other side of road?
I have the same reels and when I used mono the line would do the same thing that happend to you. I switched to 10lb braid and used a 6lb leader and have not had a issue since. Hope that helps. Love the videos keep up the good work
I have the same reel and had the same issue, tightening the spool tensioner just enough that the spool doesn’t slide side to side fixed it and hasn’t had that issue since.
if thats the Kastking Zephyr use a small lever on the back right edge of the magnetic clutch to remove the clutch and spool in an instant. no need to waste line and time =)
Great video and great fishing John! Oh wow and glad you are okay, when you say there wires in the water.. I hope all is well. Have a good day and week.
I'm late to watching this video, l love watching your videos on Saturday mornings, it was a great time on the water, was wondering do you get a lot of ticks & spiders walking down those streams? 👍🎣
I love that you're like, "Oh crap there's wires in the water, and that makes me nervous." "Oh look, a bass next to the wire I'm gonna go for it."
😂😂
Of course the Bass are gong to hang out at the power line 🤷🏼♂️😂😂🎣
Nice to see you take your old string with you. A lot of people just don't know how to get rid of their old string, it helps the fish and the water ways. Just wanted to say thanks again for being a real friend of the environment!!
Only dumb asses leave line and rubbish on our water way s
Most of us who fish regularly will always take our string and trash with us. The ones who don't are not real fisherman they are litter bugs.
