Kenneth Haight. One of the few NPC’s where is you give them something they ask for, they won’t be dead or dying the next time you see them
Yeah, but they’ll still be broke…
I like Kenneth. I hope his castle gets restored. Nepheli Loux would have a great vassal with him around
I love Kenneth so much, he feels like a character who came out of a different game, a random run of the mill noble type NPC in a game like Oblivion or a CRPG, and yet that sort of attitude is exactly why he's different from mostly everyone else in The Lands Between.
There's also a note of irony in his initial dialogue where he states the knight currently holding his castle as "plum mad" and "obsesses with blood". This is amusing as the entire quest's undertone and narrative revolves around oaths, lineage and heritage.
This is actually a warning about the Knight of the castles abilities, as he uses blood magic like Mohg. It's also a hint that this knight was in league with Mohg
I just find it funny he at first was less enthusiastic about working with tarnished then demi-humans.
Says a lot about how much Tarnished are looked down upon. We're considered lower than demi-humans to most...
I think it makes sense given how long the tarnished have been failing to heed Marika's summons, from a fundamentalist's perspective. To someone seeing the world crumble around them over many years, it must seem like it's all the tarnished's fault.
its just so rare that there are npcs who really want to do good in this world of "souls" games.
*without some dark result or twist
@@falsebeliever8079 thats true 🙂
Such a pleasant surprise of a NPC. I really enjoyed Kenneth! With him and Nepheli in charge of Stormveil I have some hope for the Land Between.
I guess if we put 1 and 1 together, that means the demi-humans could return to the Erdtree according to fundamentalism. Otherwise they would be treated like omen or misbegotten by the like of Kenneth.
The demi-humans at his fort. We know their kind will lose interest in fighting when their leader dies, but this time they went berzerk. Overcome with bloodlust from Mohg's agent.
What I want to understand better is why most people in the Lands Between are decrepit but others are not. I have my theories, but I'm interested in different takes.
Gostoc, Nephelix and (the great) Kenneth Haight were all part of a cut quest that involves you chosing who should rule Limgrave between the three, sort of like mini Covenants.
Oh and part of the quest was also the fact that Gostoc was Godricks Son. Great video, you made Kenneths motivation sound more plausible and deeper than they were even without the context of the cut quest
I know people theorized that there was cut content here but has it ever been discovered? I don't recall ever finding confirmation
Would be interesting indeed though. Sofar on me Gostoc always made the impression of a comical relief character... who will steals 30% of runes dropped...
@@square-table-gaming check out his cut dialogue were he talks about being Godricks son and how he deserves "the crown". It could be possible that they scraped the quest early in development so that's all we have to belive in its idea
@@ozzyfozzy4261 he's much nicer in the Road to Erdtree Manga but has to go through a lot of Godricks crap
Kenneth is pompous but he seems to genuinely care to be a good ruler to whoever inhabits his kingdom.
I would much prefer Kenneth as a ruler over the leaders we have in todays world
I never knew Kenneth Haight was communicating with Demi Humans. He's now a more respectable NPC to me than he was before.
I always interpreted Kenneth to be a "scion" of the royal line. Maybe Kenneth's specific family line began with an illegitimate child of Godwyn? I always took Godwyn to be have been promiscuous, may have caused Marika some headaches politically. Yet, Kenneth doesn't view himself as a "proper lord". Why does he disparage himself that much? Wouldn't he be equal or even above Godrick in the line of ascension? And since Godrick is dead, Kenneth is the number 1 pick remaining.
I went all in on the Haight quest. Donned my Gelmir knight armor, sword and shield in hand. Kneeled before him… didn’t even get made a knight, however him backing Nepheli Loux was actually pretty cool.
All hail the repudiator of the false
Glad you refer to him by his full title. :p
Also, I love the fact that while some of the characters in TLB use rather flowery and Shakesperean language and prose, then Kenneth Haight uses phrases like 'country bumpkin' and 'big girl's blouse'. But Kenneth's alliance with the local demi-humans and the fact he seems genuinely concerned over who becomes ruler of Limgrave makes him a rare decent sort in TLB.
I remember on my first playthough i looked him up and saw he dropped a golden seed so i killed him. Felt bad afterwards lol.
I wish he had some dialoge about omens. He seems like a pretty respectful guy, so itd be interesting to know how he feels about them
Great video! I always feel like there is a part of the quest missing with him and Nepheli. Usually there are some bredcrumbs left, but I just dont understand why would we ever visit Godricks arena after giving Nepheli the ashes. Even if its the STORMhawk and so on.
I wonder if something is actually missing in there
kenneth haight and nepheli are two of my favorite npcs (tbh i like most the npcs in elden ring). theyre almost nostalgic just cos theyre in limgrave. i honestly think it would be so cool if you got to promote other npcs to lords of the different areas, it would be like building ur own political party.
Kenneth would be amazing npc if you encountered him in Liurnia and Altus respectively, needing saving each time, like Siegmeyer in DS1.
But this feels true for most NPC's, as many could truly shine if they had more active content.
Perhaps Kenneth would travel to Leyndell to present your credentials to Morgott so that you can be knighted properly, being distraught over the state of the capital.
"Good Tarnished, I cannot yet raise you to the glory of knighthood, on the grounds that, you, um... how to put this... slayed our monarch. I am sure it had to be done, my friend, but until suitable replacement is found, you have to sadly wait in your current predicament."
When he says that even the vulgar shall not be left behind. Im sure he does not consider demi humans as vulgar. But is referring to the vulgar (militia) people.
Hes the last land owning noble left in limgrave i think he would be the next in line for the throne of limgrave. Its not just how he views himself. He then recognizes he's not suitable, showing humility.
Why is Kenneth wearing CONSORT'S TROUSERS? Just like the proprietress of Volcano Manor...?
He got drip
Probably because they are stylish and comfy. I belive they are fashion among the upper crust in The Lands Between.
Id happily be Kenneth's own private Paladin. My man seems like a great leader.
I actually have a character I play as his knight that helps fight Godrick in Limgrave, he's one of my favorite characters in ER
@@mateuszsotys3912 yeah I wish we had more interaction with him than we do currently.
0:26 just notice Godrick has five scaled fingers as well as a thumb. 😮 Also, with Fort Haight being a ruined tip, where are the living quarters … ?
Loved him he was one of my favorite characters
Kenneth Haight is awesome. One of the NPCs in the game I liked. Wouldn't mind entering his service.
My question about Kenneth H. is that if he is not tarnished, yet is human... then does that mean he still sees the guidance of grace? And if so, then maybe that's what led him to seek Nepheli out to be the next ruler of Limgrave... idk, just a thought.
kenneth haight the only true elden lord, best jobro, biggest chad in the game and best waifu
The Giga Chaddeth Haight rules. Man is goated
I wanna be a Haight Knight!
Thanks for your content. I wonder if any of these NPC interactions will change significantly with the DLC...
Your Envoys & Oracles Mug has served me well since I purchased it!
Thank you! I don't think anything will change with the dlc. We're only going to see new content inside of the new location.
If hes cool with demi humans that means me and Boc can live at his place im down i would join his service
A free golden seed is a free golden seed.
17 min on Kenneth? Impressive
The GrRrReat Kenneth Haight!
I like it when he says “Elden Lore” 😂
limgrave and weeping are the most human sort of political places. theyre a lot more realistic in comparison to our world which has merit, theyre cool
I love Kenneth!
What a great npc and what an even greater Video! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I also thinking Kenneth is part of the golden lineage. Thats what i got out of it. Perhaps a bastard of a bastard...
Being the proper lord of Limgrave would imply that Kenneth and Godrick are related and that Kenneth is part of the Golden Lineage.
Funny how his dialogue implies he's not.
Mann this is great video! Watching these videos as I'm playing elden ring lmao. Have you done a lore video about the exiles from stormveil castle? They are my favorite enemies so far lol
The banished knights? Yup! Although I could probably make an updated video about them because the first one is definitely wrong on some points
KENNETH HAIGHT IS THE HOMIE!!!
I feel like the state of his fort made him feel unworthy.
subbed, i can see myself binging these. also where'd you get that character art? did you draw it?
Our artist Pat Gee does all of our Elden Lore thumbnails
I've always hated kenneth until now. I always found his tone pompous and felt like he was just using the demi-humans. Now though, now I respect his character a little more. Always did like his line of calling godrick a bumpkin though XD.
Did anyone else think Kenneth was like Mace Tyrell?
The great Kenneth Haight! Servant of the true order and celebrated repudiator of the false!
I thought Kenneth was Godrick's fraternal twin brother. That they are literally part of "a litter" of three or more kids.
Not that I'm aware of. At least nothing in-game states this.
@@square-table-gaming I was basing it on the language Kenneth uses and the visual elements. Kenneth uses distancing dialog and self-reference in such a way as to imply that he is trying to be detached from the subject.
While I don't doubt that Godrick is only picking fights that he can win, I don't think that's why he went after Fort Haight.
When he is slain, his last words are 'Soon we shall return, to our home, bathed in rays of gold.' I think it's more likely that he was after the medallion piece at Fort Haight, with the aim of ascending to the Altus Plateau, and Leyndell.
That's very interesting. I always thought he was being poetic about returning to the Erdtree but that's a great interpretation
The great Chad. Love that guy
Kenneth is such a bro
Its crazy tho like the fact that Kenneth Haight knows that godrick can't beat malenia and hid from radahn during the war of the shattering, was kenneth part of the battle or did he stayed back and watched the war happening?
He had his own fort so he likely stood back and watched
this dude is one of the many reasons why elden rings writing is much better than bb and ds, finally an npc that actually wants good for his ppl and successfully implements it if you follow his quest, what i love about elden ring npcs the most is that most of them arent just *tragic mad/sad character trope#29* like most ds and especially bb npcs, which are easily the worst in the series.
npcs here have life and motive beyond just the games main story, vostock and marikas tits to name a few, bb and ds dont have this.
Love your vids
Thank you!
in today's modern world, many would be put off by his pompous attitude. the difference is it seems he actually wants to do good in the world or at least restore it to a state that isnt just godrick going out hunting people. i wonder if "great" was self appointed or he was given that lol.
i like him
I'm typing this before watching the video, but I'm wondering if you're going to mention what he drops if you kill him.
It's a golden seed, instead of a bell bearing. Which is weird. I'm not sure what's totally implied with that but it might explain why Kenneth Haight isn't all corpse'd out.
Either his loyalty to the golden order totally replaced his bell bearing (which I guess has something to do with one's spirit) ... OR...
OR....he's...a minor erdtree? Hm.
He wouldn't have a bell bearing since he's not a merchant. I think the weapon he gives us is a better indicator of his whole deal
He stole it...
@@ozzyfozzy4261 there's no evidence of that in-game
@@square-table-gaming Well... that would make him a bad thief!
I think the greatest mystery in the lands between os why does Godrick have a picture of Godfrey post Tarnished. I think its just a continuity error but is fromsoft knoen for those? I know he idolized him. But he was banished to lands unknown to war and die there. THATS when he broke his axe. So why does the picture have him with a broken axe? It should be the full double axe, no?
I think it's fair to assume he's broken his axe more than once but you make a good point
Why does he have the megamind “no maidens?” Ahh look on his face
That's just his face
So great you can easily miss him entirely....
Only if you're not exploring, boys got some lungs on him
@@square-table-gaming Yeah, so Ive been told last time I said he was completely miss able.
Does not compute with my pegged 999h59m59s playtime on a New game run though. Still trying to figure that out.
@@ViroVV It's funny, because every time I start a new game, I forget where he is and only find him because I'm on my way to South Limgrave and I hear him hollering his head off.
Is it possible for Kenneth himself to be a tarnished? Like obviously he’s a little weary of tarnished but possibly he doesn’t realize he’s tarnished? Or think he’s like a token tarnished or something? Just seems odd that he’s essentially the only noble that isn’t mummified
He would know if he was tarnished because he'd no longer be able to see grace
So what are non tarnished? Regular people or what?
Yeah basically
@@square-table-gaming I would think they are Demi gods too by the way they talk.
So what do y’all think of Kenneth as Boc’s dad? Boc is dressed as an aristocrat and seems to have education in courtly manners; there’s the dead demi human queen in the fort, and the demi human colony in the beach cave is missing its queen. I think the chiefs took the clan into hiding there after the fort was taken, and drove Boc away seeing him as a crossbreed freak now that the queen and Ken weren’t around to stand up for him.
The one hitch is that it's thought the demi human holding the you're beautiful prattling plate is Bocs mom
@@square-table-gaming I can’t disagree that that is an obvious connection, I just have a hard time thinking that’s her because of Boc and his clan being in Limgrave and the prattling pate demihuman being on Gelmir. That equation doesn’t math for me.
There’s also the ghost outside Fort Haight that talks about the demi humans sorrow for their mother.
npcs you find annoying but can't slaughter because of ancient dragon smithing stone
One smithing stone I never acquired, I guess.
He's only really annoying at first. I honestly love his humbling questline
Yeah maybe at the start but he even has enough self awareness to realize he's really NOT that guy and seeks a better more qualified lord of Limgrave @@agxryt
Yeah I liked him for some reason
You dont need him for the stone though. Nepheli and Gostoc will still be in the throne room.
