  • The next destination on our mission to change our negative mindset of Vanlife UK is the lesser known Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s actually part of the Yorkshire Dales, but we’re betting you’ve likely never heard of it, let alone been!
We certainly find lots of amazing things to do and fascinating landscapes to discover in the form of other worldly rock formations, mystical stone circles, and historic ruins in ancient woodland hiding surprising secrets.
But, how do we get on exploring it all by campervan? And are we starting to change our mind about vanlife in England yet? You’ll just have to tune in to find out!
    Catch you in the comments,
    Sarah, James & Ady

That was cool - you were in my neck of the woods! Shame I hadn't known, you could have used our home facilities. It's always fun to see your home area from another's perspective. One of my favourite walks is opposite where you parked for the night - around the reservoir. Yes, that little cart-horse bridge is very narrow 😬. Hackfall is lovely and the druid's temple is kinda cool too. Hope you all feel better soon 😘

After watching your last video where you visited Arnside Knott we got inspired to follow in your footsteps and visit Arnside Knott our selfs. It really is as beautiful as you described. Thank you for another amazing video. It really is good to see areas that are less well known.

thank the new age travelers of the 70s and 80s for the lack parking for vanlifers. the would rock up in converted vans and buses and stay for months and years. their wast and trash would pile up and become a health hazard. they had to be outlawed by the government of the day hense the restrictions. ( natural not national by the way). keep up the top vids and info you work hard to provide. cheers

Great video as always! Lovely to see you touring some of our very own backyard :) We lived in Yorkshire just outside of the Dales so frequently visited all of these areas. Druids Temple is our favourite for sure, our two boys loved playing hide and seek in the stones.

Thank you 😊 Yeah we spend a lot of time locally when we’re back in the Uk but it’s really nice to discover new places we haven’t been to in the region. Druids temple must be an awesome spot for hide and seek!

Stunning... I am interested in those signs you saw; as I understand it (certainly in Scotland, but am pretty sure it is UK-wide), unless there are actual local council signs stating the relevant clauses from whichever acts pertain to the parking and overnighting, they are not enforceable. If it is a national park, or forestry, the same applies; signage must quote the relevant acts and clauses to support their request for no overnighting. Those which have been manufactured by local communities and have no reference of authority are exactly that... without authority. Worth checking for yourselves on that one. Of course, if there is somewhere nearby that doesn't have implied threat, then fair enough, move on and keep the boat steady!
Now I am astounded at your announcement of your next AONB visit. I am due to leave my current park up near Halesworth on Thursday... and had chosen to head for Dedham Vale for a parkup that night (maybe two)! Looking forward to seeing what you think of it. Clearly Ady is thoroughly enjoying her touring these days! Hugs from here to there. YAM xx

Nooooooooo!! How funny! Is there a particular reason you’re visiting there because that’s such a weird coincidence! And spoiler alert, we LOVED it, possibly our fave AONB so far so we hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we did.
With regards the other thing, you’re absolutely right about the signs, but our understanding is that the recent law change means that you now need express permission from a landowner to be able to park on private land so the way we read it is that a sign saying not to park there, no matter how unofficial it is, means they’re unlikely to give permission. Of course the likelihood of anything arising as a result is tiny and I think the government did say that people like us weren’t the target of the law so shouldn’t be affected, but overall we just can’t be bothered with any hassle and it’s difficult enough at times anyway. We’re also very conscious that we don’t want “the dreaded knock” in the middle of the night for Ady’s sake. It’s all deliberately vague and grey and open to interpretation we think 🙄
Anyway, no such problems in Dedham Vale!! Plain sailing down there 😀😀😀 We hope you’re still having an amazing time in The Grey, looking forward to more build vids! ❤️❤️❤️

@@TheWholeWorldorNothing Yeah, guess that is the difference, as James had said, between our countries within the UK. It's a bit of a bummer; I am finding in Suffolk there is distinctly less true welcome than I found further north. I am looking forward to Dedham all the more now! (It'll come out eventually when I get vids organised, but some of my childhood was spent in Suffolk and my two younger siblings were actually born here! This is a nostalgic trip.) Love you three - take care. YAM xx

You want a land owner business person to invest in drive-through drain gates for motor home discharges and not charge to recoup their investment? Maybe next time you'll be wanting to stretch out and unpack and use all of the facilities. Pay the £30 and support a rural business. Welcome to my home Dale. Surprised you didn't mention Menwith or the police patrols. Glad you enjoyed the Dale. Try Bamburgh, packed with free campers.

The contrast between your England experience and Camper Vibe in France pretty much says it all about travel in England, we're rubbish lol.

We’ve not watched their vid this week yet but we’ve been following the series, France is a different world for campervans and motor homes, so welcome and with amazing facilities. But despite the difficulties we’re enjoying seeing some parts of England that we’ve not visited before, it’s certainly been a lot better staying away from the busiest areas. But you’re right, we’ve got a long way to go in England!

Did you know that 66 % of all the land in the UK still belongs to the decendants of the nobles involved with the invasion by the Normans in 1066.
