    It's extremely easy to make a plate that will stop a green tip 5.56 from an AR15.
    It takes a welding blanket (fiberglass), epoxy resin, some carbon fiber matt, and ceramic backing like you find at Home Depot in kitchen tiles. It's not as heavy as metal, and it stops the round.
    It's not reusable, but making another one is better than being shot.
    Also, if I were to do this, which eventually I do, I'd use a heavy vinyl because it has the best impact properties.

      Hey Cameron - that's always a pain. This can be a few things but I would check that you're materials aren't cooling down too quickly on those lower layers because of the fan, or if the heated bed temperature is low. Could also be an issue with leveling. Try this troubleshooting guide to see if it helps: all3dp.com/1/common-3d-printing-problems-troubleshooting-3d-printer-issues/ Good luck!

    Any non-toxic alternatives to Bondo? Or can you just sand the PLA directly?

    • @The3DPrintingZone
      @The3DPrintingZone  3 роки тому +3

      You can sand the PLA directly, yes. The bondo is nice because it's additive - it can fill spots in rather than just sanding away. Another alternative is to use a 3D printing pen to fill in whatever you like and then sand. The hard part about sanding filament is that it melts when you sand too quickly so it gets gooey. If you take your time with it it works fine.

    Nillllllls! I need you buddy! First of all- awesome suit- second- I got a 3D printer finally- I got a Lotmaxx sc-20 (it’s like a cr-20 clone) and it was spitting our super clean prints and then nothing! My prints are now porous and underextruded. Until I calibrated the extruder- then it overextended a ton. Until I recalibrated it again- now it looks like garbage again. I thought maybe it was a clog but I poked at it again and did some cold pulls and I swear it looks worse now. I’m at my white end. I also considered just flat out replacing the nozzle but I am afraid to take apart my hot end and make things worse!

      Hey Chris - welcome to the not-so-fun side of 3D Printing! It gets better. I'd start here: www.simplify3d.com/support/print-quality-troubleshooting/ - it's got great troubleshooting steps. Make sure to try different filaments and different temperatures to see if that helps. Every situation is different but hopefully testing some of these things help you get back on track. Let me know how it turns out!

      The 3D Printing Zone thanks man. I knew you’d come thru for me. It’s just weird because I had a filament that seemed very brittle but I got it dialed in pretty decently and was excited to get some filament in from ZYLtech recommenced by uncle jessy and it’s just been a mess for me. Stringing everywhere with loops popping out from otherwise decent layers- heavy seam zits and then all of the sudden under extrusion galore after not having been there in the beginning.

Currently I’m fighting with PETG. I have a video on it if your interested- about to put out another one with an update since I have more information. The PLA, paint, bondo, black clothing and other parts cost around $250-300. You can print all of this with the U20 Plus, which is under $500 and would really speed up the process. I printed the helmet on smaller printers so I'd recommend doing this with a larger printer if you can get your hands on one. If not, you can do it piece by piece on just about any printer - it's just more assembly.
