      Event Horizon thats not the chronological order of the story though
      it should be 123 (origin or Darth Vader and everything), rogue one (they get the blue prints), 456 (rebellion after they get the blueprints), 7 (and 89 coming out later)

      You also might like a Captain Rex's Storm trooper armor set. Captain Rex was an original and is very good with blasters, mini guns, etc. He was also one of Jedi Anakin's Trainers before he switched sides and became darthvader and then get absolutely obliterated.

    Fellow propmaker here, this is one of the best projects I've seen you do yet. You're really tempting me to finally get around to upping my CAD skills. I'm seeing a lot of advantages of doing a print over molding and casting a sculpt; especially for one-off props.

    • @AnimeWars2002
      @AnimeWars2002 7 років тому +2

      And of course you could stop at an earlier point and mold and cast if you didn't want to go through printing and cleaning it up. Also give you chance to use a superior material.

      verdatum If your a prop maker......
      I'd like a Samus helmet master chief helmet soldier 76 gloves jacket and face mask Boba and mango fett helmet along with a pilot helmet from Titan fall.Whats the total cost?

    • @verdatum
      @verdatum 7 років тому

      I LOVE YOU Personally, I don't do sewing projects like the Soldier jacket; I'd outsource that. I have no idea who "Mango fett" is, so I'm leaving that out. Depending on the design, there's a very good chance you'll be blind while wearing the Titanfall helmet. Presuming you want Hollywood-film quality dead-on realism, I'd give a ballpark estimate of about $30k, not including licensing issues, of course.

    • @lil_vault_boy
      @lil_vault_boy 7 років тому

      verdatum Lmao I put "mangofett" .Nah but it was a joke.But if I wear to try and get these I wouldn't go for dead on realism.Going for dead on realism would be too pricey and unneeded.Instead a simple version of it with out the colors would be fine enough as any body can get tape and spray paint the object.I find it kind of funny that you took this as a order.Although I do like the fact that you were very professional in terms of responding to my comment.

    whats great is that it doesnt have to be screen accurate at this point. its your variant now and you can add your own embellishments to the armor. Great Job, totally inspired me to make one. I dont have a 3d printer but i have a heat gun, a few 3L soda bottles, spray paint and a few hours to kill im sure i can knock something out.

      unsure of how the 3d printed material holds up, but i did the exact thing to weather my fiberglassed Boba Fett helmet. smacked it against some concrete block, rubbed charcoal all over it. Turned out real nice. The best way to get that "real weathered" look is to paint a silver and black as the base layer so when you chip off your actual top color, it has that very minute depth to it that makes it more realistic up close. I tried putting the silver and black on over top my top color and it looked exactly like i did that hahah

    I saw a great trick for weathering from Frank Ippolito where you first lay down a silver coat and apply some toothpaste to it so that it looks like it is scratched. Than you go over the whole thing with your main color and when it is set you can just simply wipe the toothpaste away and you are left with awesome scratches.

    I've found that a cheap marble tile or pastry board has an incredibly smooth an rigid surface for sanding. Use some rubber cement on both the sand paper and marble. Let dry then stick together. Great to doing edge joining of small parts... also works awesome for sharpening chisels with a jig.

    If you use the heat gun on the window tint first to "shrink wrap" it to the shape then apply it It might work better. But while I am typing this I am thinking that unique shape might not matter what order you do it. But that is how it's done for odd shaped glass in automotive. But I have to say you did a great job and the helmet looks awesome

    Thanks for the video. I'm making this helmet now for the entire costume I will submit for 501st approval next year. I sanded the parts before I adhered them because I thought it would be easier to sand in the detailed and small areas easier than when it's together.

    Not going through all the comments to see if it was already mentioned, but the Mandalorian Mercs (MMCC) usually use cut down welding visors for their visors. Somrthing to consider next time.

    Great project and thanks for all the cool projects you do. I dabble in some autobody and found a product called Dynatron Putty-Cote unlike Bondo this product is designed as a finish coat and is very easily sanded to a feather edge and would be great for projects like this.Product is a 2 part and mixes the same

    this turned out wonderfully!
    a few things you may want to consider in the future: when bonding with CA glue or 5 min. epoxy, you should really consider sanding away the paint and primer in the areas to be joined. you may find in a few years, that the visor may just fall off as it stands now. same thing applies for plexiglass. the areas to be bonded, should have been roughed up just a bit (though this is less of an issue, as it wasn't painted or primed).
    i'm sure another may have already mentioned this- but plexi is available in multiple shades of black, with varying degrees of opacity. next time you could save a bit of hassle with that window tint.
    the only other thing i can think of that's worth it's weight in gold for projects like this, is the red bondo spot putty, during the sanding/seaming/refining stages. just apply it right outta the tube (no hardener required). it dries rapidly and sands like a dream. perfect for smaller areas when mixing and using standard bondo would be so much more hassle.
    once again- great job and keep up the fantastic work!

    You can use simple pencil graphite to rub off on sharp corners to fake the paint weathered to the metal layer effect.

    pro tip for the hardener : put a line of hardener the length of the diameter on the top of your filler and then mix. It should be the perfect ratio everytime.

    Using putty glaze over the seams might produce a better result. Putty glaze cures smoother than bondo and is typically used on top of bondo to smooth/cover imperfections (eg: pin holes,). You can also use acetone to smooth out the 3d prints instead of sanding but experience is required with this method.

    • @Iliketomakestuff
      @Iliketomakestuff  7 років тому

      I actually couldn't find any glaze locally (forgot to look at the auto store) and had to order it. I just used the bondo to get the project finished. Acetone works for ABS plastics, but I printed this in PLA so unfortunately it wouldn't work :/

    You can usually pick a tinted visor from some motorcycle shops for about $15 to $20 bucks and cut them down a bit.

    note:
    in this type of project two colors of primer is useful because you can see where it went on and it doesn't affect the finished product
