Yes tax on multiple vehicles is a killer and disproportionate, one can only ride one horse at a time, rip off Britain with exorbitant fuel prices. Even with the imperfections the car still looks cool and very presentable. Enjoy!

    Well done fella, MOT passes are a happy place. Regarding the oil being sat for a while, if the colour and viscosity are still good then any moisture in there due to being sat around will disperse through the rocker cover breather system with use. Road tax, goddam it!! I drive a 20 year old Rover 75 CDTI auto connoisseur , £31+ a month, my wife has a 20 year old BMW Z4 auto, that's £34+ a month, it's a totally unfair system. My '98 Oldsmobile rotors squeak if the temp goes below the dew point overnight. Good old cast iron! No road tax in the States. There is a "road usage tax" in some metro areas, but I think it's a flat rate, not related to vehicle size. My car's only monthly expense is fuel, and fracking keeps it pretty cheap. Greeting from Glenn in Cleveland Oh USA: The car looks great! If in fact you have to replace the brake pads, I believe they need to be ceramic pads. Metalica pads make a clunking and banging noise as well as a squeaking noise on these cars. I am not sure how to explain this, but here goes. Most Police stations, at least here in the east suburbs of Cleveland where your car came from. there are always one or two police cruisers with the engines idling outside the police entrance. They do this for the sake of emergencies. No fumbling around looking for the keys. I wonder how many run hours these cars actually have on them. Here in Ohio, we don't have MOT but rather we have an EPA (emissions) inspection every other year at no cost. If the car doesn't pass, then we are required to spend 2 or 3 hundred dollars toward repairing the emission problem and with proof of work related to the issue, then they exempt the vehicle for 2 years. My brother lives in North Carolina and they have a full-on test like the MOT. Requirements vary from state to state.

    • @furiousdriving
      @furiousdriving  18 днів тому +1

      Fortunately this was a Sgt's car (I have his business card!) so I dont think it had a very hard life.
      I had to change front calipers and pads on arrival, and got the CVPI specific parts from Rock Auto, so I guess they are correct? It was fine for the time I was able to drive it and did some long trips in it, so think its just furred up from sitting so long, it was definitely better at the end of the drive.
      Ironically, thanks to all the emissions control, its probably one of my cleanest cars, but as the government dont hold data on on I have to pay to take this into London ULEZ clean air zone, but dont have to have an emissions check on the MOT test (although the tester try just to see, and said it would have flown through)

    Incidentally, the corrosion you encountered is typical of a Midwestern American car, and the crap " repair" job may have been symptomatic of budget cuts and the fact it was driven by law enforce ment. The road worthiness and legality of vehicles depends greatly on the standards set by the state in which a vehicle is registered. They may have opted for a strictly cosmetic job if they determined the frame was still in acceptable condition, the standards really do vary widely from U.S. state to state.

      Beachwood has high standards; unfortunately the used car dealer who sold this particular car does not.

    Here's how to set the clock:
    1) Press the RDS control until Clock Hour or Clock Minute is displayed
    2) Use the SEL control to manually set the time.
    I'll post a 24 hour community and tag you

    I always enjoy reading about the Crown Vic. As an American who owns a 1980 Triumph TR7, I think I share the experience of owning a foreign car that is just as out of place in the country I live in.

    As the owner of 3 RHD cars here in the US, I can totally relate to your LHD drive-through experience in the UK! The need to raise your voice to be heard on the speaker, and the remove-seatbelt-and-stretch-across-the-passenger-seat to receive food routine.

      Im used to doing it in Europe in RHD cars, even getting out at awkawd toll booths, this needs to be my road trip car now!
      Not many US residents have that many RHDs, Japanese or British imports?

    • @jkk244
      @jkk244 19 днів тому

      @@furiousdriving Yeah, not many people have privately imported cars that weren’t sold here - like due to the 25 year law. I have a 1988 classic Mini which I imported from the UK and which I plan to keep it forever, a 1992 Toyota LiteAce pickup I imported from Japan, and I just imported a ‘97 Land Cruiser Prado from Japan which I just imported last week. In 50 years of driving the Prado is my first car ever with an automatic. I generally feel the same about automatics as you do Matt, but, I’m actually enjoying this one.

    As for setting the time on the radio: press (and hold? can't remember, it's been a while) the button labelled RDS until "SELECT HOUR" or "SELECT MINS" is displayed, then use the up and down arrows on the SEL rocker (near the balance/fade/bass/treble buttons) to set the time. Repeat for the other half of the time (minutes/hour).
