- Run DMC were one of the true pioneers of rap music. Formed in the early eighties they had a string of hit singles and multi-platinum albums through the decade which helped to define the sound of contemporary rap music. They also pioneered the crossover with rock and pop typified by their worldwide hit "Walk This Way", which they recorded with Aerosmith. This concert at Montreux in 2001 was one of the last they performed before the tragic death of Jam Master Jay in 2002.

I had the awesome pleasure of meeting Run DMC in Cleveland at the airport in 1986 visiting my grandparents. They were returning to New York after a show. We got their autographs. It was cool. Those were the days, no bodyguards. Just approachable men. We’ll never get those days back.

I am proud to say I saw them in concert in the 80's in Long Beach, dont remember the year cause it was so long a go, but it was wild then with gangs in the audience and shooting outside after the concert. Good 'ol times.

I saw these cats live 3 years before this concert, lost my breath being squeezed against the stagebarrier by the massive crowb behind me and refused to let go.. Run noticed and got security to pulled me up on stage instead, I shook hands with the Kings from Queens!
Ive already spent a couple hours before the concert securing my spot, there was no way i was giving up my spot that night, i was willing to die for it!
DMC was also my first follower on twitter, which i think is totally dope!
