@@OrbObserverA lot of old European recipes were like that too. Recipes with specific quantities and measurements didn’t become more standard around, I want to say, late 1800s.
right? so often these recipes look SUPER cool and SUPER fun and SUPER out of my league (especially the anime with alvin recipes since they so often involve homemade broths and atypical cookware), but this one seems totally doable!
I am so glad I binged the first season before y'all did this cause the scenes Alvin mentioned definitely would've lost some of their luster had I learned of them before hand
i dont plan on watching the show and anime isnt my thing by i still went "hold up" when he said that, it sounds like something you wouldnt want to spoil.
My fave thing to do at hotpot restaurant is not get soup refills, let my broth reduce, and the last thing I eat is some ramen/udon in the super concentrated broth.
I'm so glad I watched S1 and got your references. And really, that spoiler was only a spoiler for maybe one episode. I binged the season, so it would have been a spoiler for about 3 minutes. :D Using the broth to make ramen was inspired; I'll have to try that!
Sorry if these are dumb questions but: do you have to season every single time you use it, just the first time, or several times at the beginning...and...can you use that on an electric stove or only on a gas cooktop? Thanks!
I bet the difference is less about what it's made out of than what it's used for - I feel like you usually see donabe used for boiling, steaming, simmering. You can certainly boil in cast iron but I usually see it used for frying.
Another anime where chicken meatball hotpot is significant is Tentai Senshi Sunred, where the villains gather together to have this dish in the end credits
Dear Alvin, I hope this message finds you in high spirits! I wanted to take a moment to express my utmost admiration for your incredible talent and the way you bring dishes to life. Your recent recreation of the Chicken Meatball Hotpot from Jujutsu Kaisen was nothing short of extraordinary. The way you meticulously crafted those succulent chicken meatballs, infusing them with a medley of aromatic herbs and spices, truly showcased your culinary finesse. Watching you simmer them gently in a rich, flavorful broth, perfectly capturing the essence of the dish from the anime, left me in awe. Your attention to detail and commitment to authenticity never fail to amaze me. From sourcing the finest ingredients to carefully explaining each step of the cooking process, you truly go above and beyond to ensure that your audience can experience the joy of these dishes firsthand. The Chicken Meatball Hotpot itself looked like a warm and comforting embrace on a chilly day. The vibrant array of vegetables, floating alongside the plump meatballs, created a visual feast that instantly made my mouth water. Your dedication to recreating not just the flavors, but also the visual appeal of dishes is truly commendable. Thank you, Babish, for sharing your passion and talent with us. Through your videos, you inspire countless home cooks, including myself, to explore new flavors and techniques in the kitchen. Your infectious enthusiasm and warm personality make cooking an adventure that we can all embark on alongside you. I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the culinary delights you bring into our lives. Keep up the fantastic work, and I eagerly await your next mouthwatering creation!
I especially like how the only quantity given in the recipe is "twice as much ginger."
Soul food moment, you put in as much as you want until you feel it’s “enough”. Heheh
Recipes for Asian cooking are guides not rigid instructions.
Season until your ancestors tell you to stop….. I’m from Scotland so I have borrowed some ancestors who use more than salt! 😂
@@OrbObserverA lot of old European recipes were like that too. Recipes with specific quantities and measurements didn’t become more standard around, I want to say, late 1800s.
The Japanese text says, basically, "twice ginger as much as you think you need."
I love when he does the signal to stop with the salt and pepper a glob of ground chicken flies off to his right
Especially since hes talking about food contamination in the same moment
2:20 I like how he says he doesn’t wanna contaminate stuff before flinging raw chicken goo across the room
hey just wanna let yall know there's some errors in the CC - at 2:49 "comb" should be "kombu" and at 2:55 "medium" should be "mirin"
This would actually be fun to make at home
Bet

@@ParkityParkPark Theres alot of 'hotpot at home' kits you can try too!
I would LOVE to see Alvin do something exactly like "Basics with Babish" to introduce Asian spices and methods.
Who else would want to see the sandwiches and ramen from ponyo?
Oh ABSOLUTELY!!
@@insomnis_404 I actually watched it yesterday for the first time in years and it reminded me of all the studio ghibli food.
it's just a normal sandwich
@@garlicyumand? We've seen them make things like dumplings or a burger, what's wrong with a sandwich?
@garlicyum we've seen babish make literal bacon and eggs, I dont see how thats a deterrent /lighthearted
oh i love adding rice to the remaining hotpot broth and making a ricey soup its so yummy
That's the best part, I always choose rice over noodles
2:20 "Because I don't want to contaminate it.." Proceeds to fling raw chicken across the room💀
This looks like it would be a perfect winter dish. Nice and warm. Some fried wonton strips may go really well with this as well.
it actually probably wasnt a leek in the clip. the japanese "negi" is a scallion that is bred to grow super big.
This series is gonna be POPPIN' once Delicious Dungeon releases. Hype!
Alvin fits so perfect on BCU., Reallllly great addition to the show.
Literally the first time I saw this episode, I went to check on your channel if you made a video about it, I'm so glad it's here now !

Right??
i dont plan on watching the show and anime isnt my thing by i still went "hold up" when he said that, it sounds like something you wouldnt want to spoil.
Alvin should do an episode on any of the Yuru Camp dishes. The second season especially has some really neat ideas.
Crazy that not single "Today's Menu for the Emiya Family" dish has been made yet
Now that you mention it... Indeed
Man I love nabe! But it's WAAAY too hot and humid in Japan to be heating up the house with nabe. It's a winter food only unfortunately lol
Finally, an anime with realistic reactions to food!
Ooooooooooooiiiiiiiiiisssshhhhhiiiii~~~~~~~!!!!!!!
Thst amount of commitment these guys do to recreate anything and EVERYTHING is insane.

When using earthware wouldn’t you be able to treat it kinda like cast iron?

*immediately flicks half the chicken across the kitchen*
I liked that Alvin made ramen from leftover broth.
Life has been busy, and I haven't been checking. Thanks so much for letting me know about season 2.
Yum, though am surprised by the lack of leek washing - mine are always filled with dirt.
