Jim Brown also averaged 5.2 yds per carry in his career... the most of any RB. Sanders averaged 5.0 yds per carry. None of them can beat Barry Sanders in humility.

Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders were on the same Oklahoma State teams in the late 80's. Thurman rushed for 4,847 yards and 45 TD's as a 4 year starter for OSU. In 1988, Barry rushed for 2,628 yards and 37 TD's. Throw in his Holiday Bowl stats of 222 yds and 5 TD's and his 1988 total was - 2,850 yds and 44 TD's. In one season Barry rushed for 2,219 yards less and ONE touchdown shy of what it took Thurman Thomas FOUR seasons to accomplish. THAT IS JUST INSANE!

Barry played against the Wyoming Cowboys in that Holliday Bowl. I'm from Wyoming. Wyoming looked like a bunch of kids trying to tackle a wild horse. They could not get ahold of him. Our players looked like they were not from the same planet. I came away from that game deeply impressed. What a talent.

I absolutely love Barry Sanders. He wasn't the biggest, strongest, or fastest player on the field at times, but i'll be damned if he wasn't the best. It was a pleasure and a privilege to watch him do his thing. Nobody made as many hall of fame players look as silly as Barry was able to.

The guy was a joy to watch and he made Top 10 plays every week. I remember a playoff game against the Redskins in 1991 where 2 skins wrapped Sanders on each side and he spun those guys like a propeller. I couldn't believe it. I think those guys were shaken up after that too.
Barry made it worth the price of admission to go to a Lions game. The roar of the crowd every time Barry got the ball and esp when he broke a long run was deafening and the chants.. BARRY...BARRY...BARRY...Brings back fond memories.

He is only 5'8" tall so it is such a surprise to see him outrun so many defensive secondaries. I watched Barry practice a couple of times at Oakland University and when you see him up close you'll see where his power comes from if you look at his thighs. For his size he had the biggest thighs I have ever seen in any running back. He was a pleasure to watch!
Barry Sanders absolutely killed Tampa. I think he had more 70+ yard TD runs against them than any other team. I believe he had 2 in 1 game against them.

He is only 5'8" tall so it is such a surprise to see him outrun so many defensive secondaries. I watched Barry practice a couple of times at Oakland University and when you see him up close you'll see where his power comes from if you look at his thighs. For his size he had the biggest thighs I have ever seen in any running back. He was a pleasure to watch!
