So for a lil Context with Scar revealing more Tattoos. His People, Ishvalians believe ONLY God should be allow to Create.
Alchemy is to Destroy an Object, and than Reconstruct it into something new. Aka Destruction and Creation
Scar's Alchemy ONLY had the Destruction portion, his Brothers arm. Which in his mind was ok because he did not use Alchemy to create.
      That's a simplified version 😅

The weight of scars new tattoo failed to reach you. The original arm only destroyed, that's all it could do, that's why it was scars whole fighting style. The new arm allows him to create and activate proper circles the way all other alchemists do but still unique to his style.

Arakawa-sensei is a master of foreshadowing. She gave us everything, but never connected the dots until this very moment. This is the ultimate gut-punch. GOT's expression mirrored mine when chapter was released. In one moment, all glimmer of hope that kept us rooting for our heroes was crushed into dust and blown away, leaving us empty. Everything we knew for certain flipped upside-down before we could even process it enough to reaction. By the end of that chapter, I had forgotten to breathe.

Scar's brother had tattoos on both arms. One was for destruction and the other for reconstruction. When he transplanted his own arm onto Scar, he gave him the arm which had the ability to destruct -- only one half of what alchemy/alkahestry does. Scar hates alchemy due to the State Alchemists, so he was reluctant to tattoo the other arm with the ability to reconstruct using his brother's notes that they found in the North. This is the first time you ever see Scar be able to create anything using alchemy (technically alkahestry in this case, but same same), but it is wholly necessary.
You've already seen Roy using his fire since you're done with FMAB so, you already know that he doesn't need his alchemy circles anymore. Opening the Portal allows him to use himself as a circle like all the other sacrifices.

this might be the best sequence in all of anime period, its so biblical, lovecraftian, massive in scale, 60 episodes building up to it, warned since the very first episode. It still captures the characters we've been following, not as heroes that have everything under control but little insignificant ants being swallowed by god itself without even understanding why.
And the use of the best ost ever lapis philosophorum while everyone is "dying" gives anyone insane chills

I think the most depressing thing about Father is that he spent all those lives doing nothing. He had those lives and a body to walk in, he could have lived his ideal life among others like Hoenheim did. But instead he holed himself up underground, the farthest away from genuine human interaction, all for a plan to gain more meaningless, soulless, lives. What’s the point of immortality if you’re never gonna use it to do what you truly want? Instead of acknowledging and pursuing his true desires, he placed himself the farthest he could from what he wanted by removing his ability to want at all. To the very end, the Dwarf in the Flask was the most pitiable being who truly didn’t learn anything-not of others, not of life despite the countless lives he had inside him, and not even himself.

  • @educatedlaziness3268

Its a really subtle thing, but I've always loved how Father's voice changes throughout this episode, at the start he maintains the commanding, condescending prescence he has since we met him, but at the end, just before his transformation to his massive form, his tone jumps up and for a minute he sounds reminiscent of his old self as the Dwarf in the Flask, its a moment he drops the facade and just lets himself enjoy the culmination of all hes strived for, an easily missed detail that he hasnt really changed at all since those long gone days

You didn't quite understood. Scar inherited of his brother's arm that is the "deconstruction" part. He was only able to destroy, to deconstruct during all the show. But reading his borther's final researches he understood and accepted the two part of alchemy "deconstruction" and "reconstruction". he also knew what was at stake about the upcoming events and had the tatooes of reconstruction alchemy on his other arm to be prepared. He was only fury, vengeance and destruction, but he learn that he needed to rebuild. That is why Wrath was so shocked.

"I guess you could say I've finally arrived."
Bradley was groomed from birth to become a warrior and fuhrur. He even was turned into a homunculus without his choice or consent and then he had no choice but to follow the path prepared for him. So after 60ish years of never being able to do anything for himself, to now have the opportunity to do something purely and only for himself, must be an incredibly euphoric and liberating feeling.
And if the end of the last episode was kicking while you're down, the end of this episode is a steam roller.

I have been loving your journey with this. Thank you so much for your time, energy and effort (and oh boy am I looking forward to you seeing the last three episodes!)
I am going to give one recommendation- if you think FMA has great sympathetic villain writing, I suggest you do at least the first major arc of Naruto. I realize that the show is massive and you probably don't want to commit to a full reaction without some serious thought and consideration, but the opening 4 episodes and then the 14 episodes of the arc are doable if you want to check them out. I don't think I've ever gone from 'he's a psychopath' to pretty much cheering for an antagonist before or since. And villain backstory for the show as a whole is pretty top notch. And you're going to need something to fill your time now that FMAB is ending (or already ended, depending how far ahead you are on Patreon)

Fmab really represents the real world, because human in general, they will never learn their mistakes from history. They just keep doing the same things over and over.
Below here is the lyrics of OST you listen in 22:24 timestamp.
Stone of the philosophers, red stone, stone, how many human sacrifices are required to cross the bridge of happiness ? You must understand that there is much misery, a calamity behind happiness. When they are an impediment to the land over time, you know that they were dead in the infinite.
You must understand that there is much misery, a calamity behind happiness. When they are an impediment to the land over time, you know that they were dead in the infinite. Look, look at the death, if you want to return. You'll learn by your blood to protect the forest with your arms and to fool. Oh, stone of the philosophers, red stone... does it affect the reality?

I've noticed in FMAB reactions that commenters will like to use a certain line from "Infinity War" at the start of the Promised Day arc to herald how epic the coming episodes will be. But personally, I think it more fitting to wait to utter that phrase until this moment, when the villain has beaten the heroes, accomplished his longtime goal, and caused death on an incomprehensible scale:
    We're in endgame now.

Others have already stated that Scars new tattoos don't allow him to do alchemy per se, but the reconstruction part of alchemy, while his right hand only did the reconstruction. For alchemy you first have to deconstruct something into it's components before you can then use those components to build something new (like Lego).
But what they failed to explain was WHY this goes against scars beliefs, it's because Scar believes that creation specifically, is reserved for god and god alone since he is literally "the creator". So by using alchemy to create new things he believes alchemists are trespassing on the domain of god, an act of hubris where humans overextend themselves.
This ties in to some of the overall themes and the gnostic symbolism of the show, which I'll say some more about when everything is over and done with.

I dunno why but I find the story for FMAB/the manga poorly written towards the end. It feels way too anime compared to the rest of the story. Imo the original FMA has the superior ending, it at least makes sense within the framework of the rest of the story. Probably a hot take, but I am making it.

So here we are. The final stretch. The show actually told us way earlier, in Gluttony's belly, what Father's plan was. "I will strike God to Earth and become a perfect being". He wanted to absorb God, absorb Truth, and to do that, he needed people who had all met him, and he needed the raw power of an entire country's worth of philosopher's stone, and the working of an advanced transmutation circle designed for such a task. His plan come to fruition in full.
One thing I love about this show is how well thought out EVERY ELEMENT is. We're told there's a larger world outside Amestris. Drachma, Aerugo, Creta, Ishvalla, Xing. And there are people from all over Amestris, and major players from Xing in the story, but we've never actually left Amestris, we haven't seen much of where Ling, Lan Fan, Fu, and May are from outside of momentary flashbacks. It all happens in Amestris. EVERYONE we come to know and love is in Amestris..and we just watched Father kill every last man woman and child in the country. There are stories with higher stakes, technically. Most sci-fi has interplanetary threats at a minimum, if not galactic or universal. There are global apocalypses all over fiction. You're currently watching Dr. Stone, and all civilization is at risk of being wiped out if the wrong person dies or fails to complete their mission. But this is different. We don't KNOW most of those people, but here? Where, as you've noticed, even the unnamed, minor background characters can play a major role in how things play out, where what would normally just be "the background soldiers" can become "the guys who saved the Armstrong siblings from Sloth's attacks", where the whole point of the story is the importance of every human life, so many of whom we've been given names and faces and reasons to personally care about? HE killed the Hughes family. He killed the Armstrong family. He killed Lan Fan. he killed the Briggs soldiers, he killed Denny Brosh and Maria Ross, he killed Rose and the old storekeep with the radio the boys fixed in episode 3. He killed the automail engineer Dominic, his son, daughter in law, and grandchild. He killed Pinako and Winry. He has acquired the power of God and made himself "The perfect being".
The stakes literally could not be higher.

The best thing about this anime is that you cannot predict what is going to happen, and the truth is there are not many that have this characteristic that makes it so good, and also making sense of everything that happens, it really is the best anime to start with For someone who has never seen this type of series. I hope it's understood since I don't speak English that fluently and I use Google Translate, I think I must be one of the few Spanish-speaking subscribers you have. Greetings from Argentina.

I have been WAITING for you to get here. This ending, right here, this is the ultimate cliff hanger. The bad guy won (in this episode), he killed everyone and ate God! Are you not entertained?! Are you not CRUSHED ?!
Imagine having to wait a week to find out Wtf any of that meant. It was so cruel.
Scar used only his left arm, which was a combination of alkhestry and destruction alchemy. He refused to use creation alchemy as it clashes with his religion (he was a monk for a God named Ishvala), however he chose to use his brothers gift to help bring about salvation and had the other half of the circles he already had completed with help from the research notes he decoded for Mei and Marcoh.
Mustang can definitely transmute with just a clappy clap clap now. That's the "gift" of seeing the truth. He is definitely nerfed though, and you'll see what they do about it.
You only have two more episodes of plot my friend. The final episode is allll epilogue. So I hope you're ready for these next two episodes and be proud you didn't cry like a baby like I did when I saw this for the first time!
Also, once more, #IsaacWasRight and if Ed had just let him freeze Father, none of this would be happening

There are not a lot of stories where the evil plan is actually completed. The only other one I can think of is revenge of the sith and that was part of a larger story. This show is constantly praised for it's masterful writing but this is the most artistic and masterful stroke in the entire series. The bravery it takes to say "father is not just going to bear them but is going to achieve everything he wanted to conquer god" is insane to me.

13:54 as I mentioned last episode, if Al joined back with his original body he would still be in the portal. Meaning he wouldn't have even been there in the first place and Father wouldn't have his 5 sacrifices.
16:12 wrong. He can use his alchemy since he d performed human transmutation. He no longer needs his gloves or a transmutation circle. Jus like Ed, Al, and Izumi. He just can't aim it.

Y'know whats kinda crazy? Hiromu Arakawa managed to get to this apex, a crest of power, a level of onmipotence and omniscience through very few key factors.
    1. The concept that an individual like a lifeform is a system that accumulates information to that systems threshold, ie the truth that one individual being can hold.
    2. That the soul of an lifeform is energy that can power alchemy, which can be collected and distilled into a physical form of raw energy.
    3. Human Transmutation tampers with the threshold of information a singular human holds, which results in opening of that individuals gate of amassed information which is their gate of truth.
With just these few concpets, Hiromu Arakawa gave the vilian the the information for him to amass enough energy to literarly rip open the gates of truth (the threshold of information of a celestial objects) the Earth, and dragging God within himself. I adore worldbuilding and coming up with concepts, and I'm always floored at what the author manages with very little and that's all thanks to how well definied her magic system is and never over conceptualizing with such a well tinkered magic system. I know of tons of other stories that would go ham with a hard magic system like FMA's alchemy, but She kept it streamlined and that takes a ton of dicipline as an author.
Now I'd love for you to watch few vids on FMA after you finish watching the brotherhood that explains and delves deeper into the alchemy side of things. There's this wonderful yotuber who's known to be the goto expert in real world alchemy, Max Derrat. He's known for content that sines a light on topics of mythology, theology and alchemny within mass media like video games, tv shows, films and anime/manga. I have a feeling that you might really enjoy reacting to what author gets right with the hard alchemny concepts that many would brush off as fluff but actually holds ton of historical significance.
Love your reactions and can't wait for you to finally reach to the climax and resolution of Full Metal Alchemist. This series is one of those stories that I built a habit of following as each chapter of the manga was serialized month after month and year after year.

Yeah now you know Father's plan in full. The "Gate of Truth" and the entity behind it that Edward, Alphonse, along with everyone whose performed human transmutation has been talking to is in effect god. So Father's first goal when he created the alchemy circle in the past was to make a body where he could act autonomously and in doing so created Hohenheim as a sacrifice for his plan. Then having a body of his own he began the long process of creating Amestris for the purpose to accessing the planets "Gate of Truth" in order to reach and consume god for the knowledge of the universe. His goal is to become "The Perfect Being" and what other being can be considered more perfect then A/The God?

Construction and Deconstruction. 2 sides of Alchemy as a whole. Alchemist typically deconstruct the envoroment and then reconstruct it to attack, but Scar stops after the first step, his alchestry tattoos only desconstruct, so he destroys whatever he grabs. That combined with year of training as a monk and going for the kill gave him the edge over the alchemists he was hunting. But he never made structures, Al said as much when they were fighting, and Scar himself said Creation was the Domain of God, not to be imitated by man. He threw away all his beliefs because he relized what was at stake here, and knew his usual bag of tricks wouldnt cut it in a face off with some of the strongest Honunculi.

So, here's a fun think to think about. As was seen by Ed meeting a truth with child like proportions and Izumi meeting a truth with more adult proportions and as will be even better shown, truth appears in a shape like the person whose doorway it stands at. In this episode Father talks about the earth as a life form with its own portal which he is opening with the eclipse. What looks like the shape of the earth but all white? That right, the moon. The moon is essentially implied to be the earth's equivalent truth being.
That makes it almost like a piece of ever present foreshadowing, but one no one would ever question because of course the moon is there, and I think that's pretty genius.
