  • Do you have to color swatch your colored pencils? No, but you’ll enjoy coloring a lot more if you do. Don’t worry, there is not a one-and-only way to do it. Instead, I go over the different methods and my preferred way to swatch out my colored pencils so you can pick the one that works best for you.

I have also gone through several swatching options, and found the 3ring binder is the best because if you get rid of a range of pens or pencils you can just throw out the relevant pages. I have swatched all my paints, marker pens, gel pens too and it is so convenient to be able to pull out a sheet to refer to instead of flipping through a bound book.

I'm kind of mixed. I do have mine in a binder, but sometimes it is just so bulky to carry around, especially when you have soooo many sheets. So I'm trying to find a different method. Especially for my watercolors which take up a lot of real estate.

GREAT SWATCH CHART RESOURCE...TY!!!💜 Comforting to know I'm not the only one who tried to be super-organized and then got real. 😉

I've actually been working on revamping my swatching method, again, so it has definitely changed lol

The swatch books you made are amazing. They should send.something like that with the pencils.

I just love looking at other people's swatches even if some methods aren't for me💜 I search online for a list of colors included in the set and copy into a word document. Then I'll use the table function to generate a grid so the color names appear in each cell. I make the cells as large as possible. For example my Polychromos chart is two 6 x 10 grids on 8.5x11 cardstock.

That's a great way to do it too! There are soooo many ways. Really, it is all about what works for you. I even switch mine up at times haha. So, I go from sheets to spiral sketchbooks. Just depends on my mood.

I enjoy swatching my color pencils, not only to organize the colors but it satisfies my OCD inclination.

Having followed a swatching path similar to yours, and winding up in a similar place, I enjoyed watching your video. I am also HAPPY to be on the other side, happily spending more time coloring and less time swatching! But you have presented me one more possible adjustment. Currently I have all my plastic encased charts in one ready made presentation booklet, and I am now out of pages. I have to ask about your spiral bound pages. Is that something you made? Do the rings open for additional pages?
I really hope you can supply directions, supply resources or any other assistance in The Swatching Journey! Thank you!

So the rings don't open, but it is a disc binding system. They are really fun and a great way to organize pages because you can add as many pages until the discs are full. amzn.to/43tYzyU this is the set I purchased because I liked the pastel colors haha
