My ex husband abused me in many ways for years and he got away with it due to lack of evidence and "lack of witnesses". Like what in the heck? yeah like he's going to hit me in front of dinner guests. Sorry he didnt hit me in front of neighbours...jeez. The police took out an intrim DVO (domestic violence order) and the judge granted it for 6 months which after what he put me through is a slap on the wrist and insulting to me. He even got custody of my daughter (long story) Often when victims of abuse get blamed - it just adds to the trauma and makes us feel invalidated and insulted, they act like it never occurred. My therapist said, just because others believe him and not you, doesnt make it false. It DID happen, you know, your family and friends know the truth. His friends just believe his facade he puts on and its quite sad that people get fooled by these monsters everyday. I feel so horrible for other victims of dv. ❤ Stay strong guys. They beat you down mentally and emotionally, then physically. They make you seem crazy and unstable, while they seem well put together and sane. It’s total manipulation. They ruin your credibility and then when you are in a position to get help, your too scared. So sad. I went through the same thing but I was able to get out alive. I can’t get over the fact that Gabby was described in the police report as “confused and emotional.” Emotional, yes. But “confused” is such a derogatory and victim-shaming description of her mental state. She is level-headed, very aware that she is hurting, and very aware that she does not feel safe with him. She communicated the day’s events to the officer clearly and without any “confusion.” She communicated with great emotion - which the officer should have understood included sadness and fear, based on her description and obvious demeanor. The police did not ask the right questions. They instead made unforgivable assumptions, and degraded her supposed mental state to a level of “confused” with absolutely no evidence. This is freakin’ gaslighting-level behavior on their part.
Why didn’t they ask her, “do you feel safe with this man?” “When he locked you out of the vehicle, did he make you feel safe?” “When he grabbed your chin and caused you physical pain against your will, did he make you fee safe?” “Did he make you feel safe when he degraded your dreams?” “Do you think he might hurt you again?” “Are you certain he would not do this again?” “Do you have someone you feel comfortable sharing your fears with?” “Who can I call for you?”
Gabby was “hurting and afraid.” Brian’s demeanor was consistently disconnected from the reality of his obviously heartbroken, sobbing girlfriend. He remained charming, cool and calculated. Why was his detached, manipulative behavior contrasted with hers not a red flag?? Why was she called “confused??”

What is strange is the police to call out that he literally had pulled his phone out of his pocket a few moments before. Then he said he didn’t have a phone 🤔. Watching it back I immediately caught that. And gabby had her phone in the police car calling his parents. So the phone he pulls out in the cam footage would have to be his phone. Plus now the fbi have stated they have BOTH of their phone data. So he clearly had a phone. Not to mention in her photo in the van with the terrain that doesn’t look like the arch’s she’s clearly taking a photo likely with her phone…and in front of her hunched over is Brian’s back and he’s either reading or likely on his phone.

I personally don’t think it was premeditated. I think he 100% murdered the newly wed couple while they were separated. Gabby found out or he told her. They fought and he killed her as well. His parents 100% know about it. I think they haven’t released cause of death yet because my personal thought is that it was gunshot and then would likely tie all 3 murders. The fact his family has now hired Casey Anthony’s attorney makes me even more suspicious that he is guilty of the 3 murders and not just Gabby.

Another reason why I think that all police or Highway Patrol should have more education and training so they know the signs to look for in a toxic relationship. Like what to look for if you come across a situation like a minor traffic stop, to determine if there's more than meets the eye. Body language, eye contact, girl upset while the man is smiling, laughing and joking with the police, Etc. I don't believe defunding the police is the way to go, I think giving them more funding for educating the police is a better way. But you can always defund the the deadweight in administrative roles...that will work... but that's just my thoughts.

I'd be standing there shaking n bruised, but they'd believe him. I understand exactly why she defended him. She was scared what would happen if she didn't n the cops would let him go. The last beating I took I finally filed charges at the hospital. He was stunned when the cops showed up to arrest him. He'd beaten in the door and was about to finish what he started earlier, when the cops showed up. He looked at me, saying they better not be here for me, then ran to meet them. Thank God, you're here. Look what she did to this house. She's crazy. The room was a mess with plants he'd ripped from their pots, strangling them before throwing, saying it would be my neck next. I was the one with a black face, but when it came back there was a warrent for his arrest, the cop looked at me n said- I can't believe you're making me arrest him. He's trying to be nice n work things out. So I get why she acted as she did with the cops. The one acting- AND IT IS AN ACT- calm n in control, is the one the cops believe. Of course they're not hysterical, they are not the ones being verbally abused all morning and slapped in Gabby's case or constantly beaten, belittled, and being made to feel small and in the wrong. Those officers could only do their best with the information they had at the time. Hindsight is always 20/20. They had no way of know that she would have been the one who wound up dead. When they pulled them over, Brian was the one with the scratches and marks on his face and body, and Gabbie was the one saying it was all her own fault, while police also spoke to a witness that said it looked like she was the primary aggressor. Both Gabbie’s and Brian’s stories were relatively the same. What are they supposed to do or think in that situation. The officers even said in the body cam footage that they have to treat it the same as if it was a woman with the marks all over her face and body, superficial or not. They had no way of knowing what truly happened as the officers were not there, only Brian and Gabbie know what truly took place behind closed doors, so they have to try and piece things together the best they can. What we know now gives us a clearer picture of what was really going on in their relationship, but the officers didn’t have any of that information yet. There is no way they could have predicted this. After watching the full body cam footage, I actually felt the officers handled things as well as they could with what was presented to them, and they seemed like they genuinely cared and tried to do their best to mitigate the situation.

@@BhappyD My main criticism of the police is that in their discussion at the road side they don’t seem to mention the possibility of the scratches being as a result of self defence. The witness said they saw HIM slapping/hitting HER, but the police appear to forget that-at least in the footage presented here.
I understand that they can only take their word for what happened, and I agree that we’ll never know the full story, but again, they don’t consider that Gabby may be lying to protect her abuser, which is incredibly common in situations of domestic abuse. They could have simply separated them without using “victim” and “primary aggressor” mentalities. Even with the info they had, it didn’t seem that clear cut.
They also don’t seem to consider that the van was swerving because he was using one arm to do something to her, and her taking the blame because she’d been told to do that by him. Either directly or indirectly E.g. “Why do you make me hit you? I hit you because you make me angry. It’s your fault I hit you.”
I’m sure this is just a result of poor training when it comes to domestic abuse and the way victims act in those relationships, but it doesn’t make it any less frustrating to watch. The fact Brian says he has no phone, pulls one out, and the police don’t notice/question that, suggests they weren’t completely on the ball here.
The officers never seriously considered this a potential DA situation, just characterised the woman as having a “mental health crisis”. That is worrying for many.
However, I don’t believe they could have necessarily done anything to stop the end result as you can’t force people to stay apart if they insist on being together, but I do hope going forward that these officers try to be more open minded.
At least the female National Park Service ranger told Gabby her relationship with Brian had the markings of a toxic one. The other officers should take notes from her on that.

as an attractive male myself, I'll never understand how beautiful women like Gabby date simps like Brian who mooch, have no real goals, who complain about others but never ever have real resolutions skills. seriously, boggles my mind.
May she Rest In Peace, Gabby.

It's heartbreaking to hear Gabby blame herself for "distracting" him while he was driving. I don't know what happened at that moment, but whatever his reaction was, that's on him. Ladies, please, please, please never believe that a violent reaction from your partner is your fault. Don't normalize blaming yourself.

Just right now announced - a federal warrant for Brian's arrest in connection with his activities after Gabby's death. Yes!!!!! Gave me chills. It isn't a homicide warrant (aka: warrant in conjunction with her murder), but it's a start. $20k award from a law firm also announced. Yesssss!!!!!!! Continuing to pray for this family. Heart breaking to the core. And I'm absolutely disgusted by Brian's sorry excuse for parents.

A lot of cops are misogynistic men who also abuse the women in their lives, so it's no surprise that they painted him out to be the victim - they likely saw themselves or their own colleagues in him. I hope they feel intense regret because they had the opportunity to save Gabby and didn't.

I was a victim of domestic violence. I was with that person whom smiled and was friendly and charismatic and was able to snap to a calm composure after their abuse. The victim stays in a state of shock and is filled with negative emotions: guilt, shame, pain. When I heard Gabby speak, I burst into tears, listening to her as she blame herself, because a person who is being abused has been condition to believe that they deserve the abuse, that the fights are their fault. Its a toxic addictive cycle; Victim: shame, guilt, the Abuser: abuse, pass guilt to the victim, IF they apologize, they do as so: I'm sorry I did this but you: angered me, and you know how I react when you do this/that" Then they do an act of kindness such as a gift or a treat, etc. Even when someone tries to help, the victim is hooked in this cycle and they really do believe that the abuser isn't at fault, that whom ever is trying to help "doesn't know him/her as she/he does". This is the POV from a person who has been abused. There's always the POV of person 1 and 2 and then there's the truth. When I did ever speak about my abuse, I felt shame and guilt. I believed that no one would believe me, because my abuser was friendly, had many friends, and I had too much pain, shame, and anger inside of me. As I heard Gabby and the officers conclusion my heart broke, I was flooded with memories and I wanted to jump in, hug her, and save her. Many people say: If you're being abused, why not just leave" but relationships are hard to just walk away from, specially the ones that you're attached to, some relationships are like alcohol/drugs, you become addicted. My heart is with Gabby and her family. and just like his family, my abuser had a family who excused his behavior and protected his abuse. I'm relieved to hear the other agent saw right through him and understood why Gabby blamed herself. They were able to see the many red flags.

Abusers (often narcissists) are experts in seeming charming and normal and harmless. But they’re not - they are just manipulating everyone around them to believe that they’re the good ones.
