Met Casey at Derby about a year ago. I was stoked on his skating, and despite looking pretty intimidating at first he's the nicest and most humble guy. He ended up hooking me up with some consolidated stickers out of the blue. As an east coaster, someone going out of their way to make someone from out of town feel welcome at a local park goes a long way.
123 456 he’s a legit keyboard warrior. Probably stepped on a skateboard once and broke something. Never skated again, but goes around trying to beef with people who do lol.
Me too, life has been hard. Which has culminated for a long time in me not being able to go outside because of anxiety, depression and more. I live indoors all the time with blinds closed. The only thing that gets me out right now is skateboarding. :)
And remember when you start to feel sad, nobody gives a fuck and quit being a little bitch.. do you know why you're able to go out and skateboard is cuz you finally quit thinking about yourself and all your insecurities and you're only able to focus in the now because if you don't you'll eat shit and hurt yourself. If you want to be a true skater you have to remember you cannot care what other people think we don't live like that.
This is the coolest dude I've ever seen through thick and thin he alright. If I meet him I would give him some money to pass him by hard things keep living life dude
I took my son to Derby Park when he was young. The concrete wasn't smooth like it is now. We thought how could anyone skate it, Then this guy showed up. He would do a wind up starting at the bottom end and then when he got done coming up the snake run he popped up backwards did a 50-50 to board slide on the s shaped curb making a rat a tat sound. It was so badass.
Casey was there last weekend when we stopped by. The guy shreds. Totally laid back and a nice guy. We had young kids with us and he would watch out for them and give them some encouragement..
skating has kept me away from the drink and drugs . yeh i use to drink alot all times of the day and at work, i dabbled in drugs but always went back to that wooden toy that gives me joy and always will... why would you want to mess this one life you get up? so get out there and skate cuz one day you wont able to cuz death comes ripping.. peace
Thanks to all, for this good movie. And special thanks to Casey, to listen him, and his life. Life is not easy. But Casey shows, that he becomes stronger, to fight against the life problems. Greetings from SW-Germany. (male, Age 53, Board-Rookie)
Love everything about this video, music, skater and life lessons. I'm forty six yrs old, still pushing since 10yrs old and still learning about life. It's about what you take from it not what it takes from you. Mad respect
Very interesting video,Casey tells you enough to get you interested, but keeps enough hidden so you keep wanting more. Can't wait till complete to see the finished product, its going to be a great inspirational movie that hopefully helps others skateboarders out in the world!great job
I like this dude.I can relate.I'm a 34 yr old skater who had an alcohol and drug problem and went to jail in the past and a bunch of b.s.Skating,guitar and comics helped me through shit. This is a real dude.A true skater.I give him respect.
borderline depression, mid life crisis, introvert, anxiety. All of a sudden I decided to buy a skateboard. Unfortunately I did something that caused accident at the skatepark, needing surgery. So then I tried rollerblade, kept falling. Too scary as my back was still healing. Got a bmx instead and it has been good for 6 years now. I still want to get a skateboard again one day. The nice thing about making friends with skateboarders/bladers/bmxers, is they just don't care that you're different. I feel accepted without all that society norm bullshit.
gotta get money to survive tho , my grades are shitty af and i am in junior high with depression , i could have killed myself but the only thing that prevents me is the urge of learning new tricks and the feeling of chilling with my squad
Wow crazy story, when ever I feel live is getting stressful I just stick on some tunes and skate when its raining I just meditate which is also a great way to relieve stress.
Casey, I have found your story very inspirational! I am going to share it on my facebook, try and share the word. Skateboarding in my opinion is a great outlet in general. Keep on doing what you are doing and live life to the fullest.
its 2017 now, an dIm a bit late, but definitely super happy that I saw this. Im always on youtube checking out skateboarding stories. Gives me a little bit of hope for my hometown. May skateboarding save many more lives !

Thanks brother for sharing your story for all of us to hear! We all love skateboarding and makes me happy to see that it has helped you in your life.. It also makes us realize that we all need to be more grateful to what we have.
Good for you my friend. I've battled addiction most of my life. Skateboarding was a huge part until injury took it away. Thank god I have found fpv freestyle now. It's taken that place I needed in my life. A creative positive outlet. Life still sucks and hits you every time you turn around. But keep that one thing that makes us suck less and latch on. Stay strong my friend. Your not alone. Many of us have been dealt lousy hands. And hearing your story makes us feel less alone.
Your Story is one more reason for me to keep my head up and start skatin again!! Thanks for your words, inspiration and everything!! Best wishes from Germany! Thank you!

I love the barebones mentality. Just a board and the world. Anyway that you can express yourself is a beautiful thing. Guitar saved my life when I had no other way to express my emotions
I've been hitting Derby Park on and off since high-school '89 in Sac. I've slept there a couple of times too. The locals make the lines look so easy- S.C. def has it's own style... Head up Casey, show the world what's on your neck, in your heart, and under your feet. Best, *A.
Skateboarding has saved my life aswell. I’m struggling with some heavy depression and anxiety. After my gf died infront of my eyes last year, everything became dark. After my first suicide attempt I realized that I needed to change something. I remember her last words were: „do what you love“. So I decided to stop the drugs. I used to skate in my teenage years. Relearning everything now since like 4-5months. I have also learnt some new tricks. Never was that happy since her death. For me skateboarding is better then any therapy. Last week a skater at my local park asked me if I’m fine. I answered „yeah“ but tbh I was depressed and sad af that day. When I did a break to smoke a cig the dude came to me. He was like „let me know if you want to talk“. We had like a 30min conversation which ended in a game of skate. That’s whats skateboarding is about. Thanks for this vid btw I feel ya.
I saw this guy skating the new Derby the day I happened through there. The new concrete is awesome and though he seemed sketch at first glance he ripped the place apart like he lived there, everyday, like he does.
I never heard of this dude. But i dig his story. I can relate. Gotta keep on going brother. Kickin that plank around sure helps make the bad times go by. Skate Cheers!
My story may not be as gnarly as this dudes' but skating did help me kick the addiction of cigarettes, my long-term suicide has ended :D Also kept me out of the terrible things going on in my run-down urban environment
It Is so sad what so many people has to go through, world is fucked up, I hope he is not homeless anymore he seams to be doing fine. Sports are always an option to be away from drugs and crime. Keep skating! peace..
This guy may have been through allot here in Santa Cruz. We all have our own stories..especially the ones born and raised here.. BUT he sure has hurt allot of people. Robbed/stolen/possibly worse ..the list goes on and on... This video kinda says poor me ..should be.. Im sorry for fucking up your town. Im a changed man ..BUT Sorry for being the Problem..Ive moved on...and hope to move on.
AWE SHIT! casey i never knew that you went out with her, and ya crazy how they were found and who did it, im sorry for the life you have endured but we have overcome! we are survivors..... love life casey

I think there is a story like this at every skate park in America. Skating is a savior for many
