The Dark Brotherhood quest line in Oblivion is amazing, start to finish. I love how you have to do some detective work to find out why Rufio had to die. Then there's the quest where you kill everyone at a party, one by one, and it's never spelled out what they all did. And then the moment the traitor takes over your dead drops becomes clear on the second playthrough when you notice the font has changed. It's just amazing all around.
"and it's never spelled out what they all did." - uuhhhh... Just crossed someone's path? It's not like all the DB victims DESERVE to die, they were just ordered by someone malicious enough to do so. It's like that quest with the stuffed head in Bruma - a nephew ordered his uncle just to inherit his mansion quicker, the uncle himself didn't do anything wrong

It's funny listening to Lucien go over the five tenets, and realizing in Skyrim Astrid basically broke every single one. Skyrim's quests and writing weren't as good but it got that part right at least.
To be fair to Astrid, the Dark Brotherhood had been without the Night Mother for well over a couple decades, and as far as she knew they were the last of the Dark Brotherhood. Their cultural traditions were bound to break down as Astrid prioritized Survival. However, her trying to antagonize Cicero and the Night Mother was 100% a power grab on her part.
I wrestled with the fact that, its difficult to rationalize killing randoms without being a complete psychopath. I then realized, if I used a grudge against the Imperial guard, it may help. I think, down the line I am going to lean into the fact Sithis seems to reward his children with some feel good dopamine when carrying out his will.
I like to play my evil characters that way. Doing a quest or getting something cool is one thing but being needlessly mean makes me feel bad so I don't play that way. Plus it makes some sense in-character, the really good criminals don't run around kicking puppies, they're either playing the part of a rando, or an outright pillar of the community. It's just better cover than twirling ones mustache and threatening to immolate anyone that's rude to you.

I remember running into all of the individual bits over various playthroughs, but this is the first time actually seeing all the dots put together. Oblivion had such amazing writing. Sure, the faces are the stuff of nightmares and the gameplay loop is a little dry, but the storylines and details are just so amazing that I will always consider it the best Elder Scrolls game.
See, that makes it so easy to think of the brotherhood as evil. If I were to make an assassins guild, I would call it the "kitty flower club" and the ritual to contact us would require glazed donuts, rose petals, a piece of leather in the shape of a heart, and gold coins. Just make everything about it as un-edgy as possible.
I liked the other members of the Brotherhood so much that I resurrected them with a console command after being forced to kill them (in which I also used console command so they aren't aggroed and lose disposition with me)
The Dark Brotherhood is actually genius in Oblivion. The game generally is known for its linearity in most questlines, and goes rather heavy on the Hero factor without really catering to villains. So, giving the player a faction that acts more villainous than others is a great way to bring some balance in giving the player some moral bilinearity. But the kicker is, the Dark Brotherhood are still low key good guys since most of the people they kill are arseholes that deserve it.
That's the thing, we don't know that. We don't know the motivations of every single person who ever performed the Black Sacrament... except this one, which sucks.
While it IS possible to assassinate somebody who deserves it, more times than none, they easily couldn't and the one performing the Black Sacrament is going too far.
One of my favorite quest lines in the game! and great loot along the way! Vicente Valtieri offers at one point to turn you into a vampire. Its fun for a time but the disease begins to be a chore. If you speak to him again it starts a quest line to rid yourself of the disease. Would you do a video on that quest line? I actually never finished the quest.
8:40 "We don't get many visitors around here, it makes it pretty lonely for me, if you know what I mean." I feel like I know what you mean, it gets lonely, so you feel lonely. But when you add 'if you know what I mean' to something so obvious... now I don't think I know what you mean...

I'm today year's old finding out you can kill Lucien. First time I met him, I was confused because an NPC in the Isles had died by accident (she ran into the arrow meant for the enemy, died. Game counts it as murder).

My pleasure!
I remember my first playthrough when I went into this lonely tavern and because my pickpocketing went wrong I killed my first innocent -
Wich was Rufio. Thats not a joke. Later I was flashed to hear that this is your first target.
Hi. I love your videos. You have an awesome way of telling stories!
Thought you might like to know i found a way to jump on to the platform without pushing the button to lower the zombie pens in the last thief's quest.
The one where you shoot the arrow.
I have it highlighted for both times i did it on my (Non monetized) Twitch channel. (Same name)
I can delete that last sentence if you want me to.
I failed oddly once and then i did it right the second time.
I think it was that i quick saved at the same time i walked onto the switch.
If you walk on to the switch normally you can keep going and finish the quest from there. :)
Thats great & am happy for people to check it out. Hope you're happy for me to try this in my playthrough 😁
@@DarkLOREDash After further research i found out there's an "Animation bug" if you've played a character for over 100 hours. This save game has been played well over a hundred hours. Character is level 38. So the "Abomb" bug is likely as eventually after a few hours the same animation bug reappears. Note: I aquired the armor with the acrobatics very late in the game for this run too. Not sure what all is involved. Good luck with trying this yourself.
*The spring heeled Jack boots along with a high acrobatics score are key.
"What ?!"
xD
On a more serious note, this is quite an investigation. Really, really cool to watch !
Thank you!!
Well done, and a shining example of the extra care ES has in the unnecessary details. It’s what makes them great, when they get it right.
man you did some hard work on a I guy I just kill of often. learned new stuff is fun
Needed this upload 💔 really bad morning sickness so I can't go and get an affordable outfit and boots that I need for the cold. I'm so disappointed, so thanks for having something for me to watch 🙏❤️
Thanks Henrietta. Sorry about the sickness 🤢 on a positive note, it makes me want to make sure I'm uploading to keep you preoccupied
@@DarkLOREDash 😭 not me crying 🙏 thanks so much, pregnancy hasn't been easy on me, so your videos have been a great comfort ❤️ take good care of yourself this season 🙏
I think the dark brotherhood is what solidified oblivion as my favorite game
The dialogue for the main character you do is really good. And nice voice acting
Woman:”They say that when you murder someone the dark brotherhood come to you in your sleep it’s how they recruit new members”
Guy:”WHAT”
Raise your hand, if like me. You first got a visit from Lucian after killing the Grey Prince in the Arena.
YES! I was about to comment this lol
He wants to die and once you’re in the match, it’s you or him. I don’t know any other way to get out of the situation
Your narration is on point as always too notch content 👌
I appreciate the kind words!
I appreciate the cameo of the characters from the last video
Your videos are awesome. I've been listening to them when I go to sleep the past few days
Loving these in-depth quest reviews! They make me feel more immersed in the world of Tamriel than I do playing the game myself!
I want to play oblivion again it’s better than Skyrim
It has a certain charm 🌟
@@DarkLOREDash shame it’s not on ps4
Watching you and Wilburgur. Funny that my two favorite Oblivion content creators are both Australian.
One of the best genuine UA-cam channels, you're one of my relaxation go-to-s closer to the quality vs volume end of the spectrum which can be good and bad but we cannot be everything all at the same time I like this overall or your recent videos has been that more medium sized content. But you do have some of those 3hr+ ones like Nights of the Nine falling asleep ahh shit not this again XD here we go again or better is big head singing songs of ringing or Bolwing teretteting, violently.. sweet dreams .....
Amazing story that ive missed on everysingle playthrough.
What mod is being used for the npc faces, looks amazing.
I hate to say it, but none! I have graphics optimally set, perhaps? But no mod secrets unless I've forgotten 😬
@@DarkLOREDashadamus philldila face looked unusually more detailed ! I think.
Boosting for the algorithm 🙌 Love your work, keep it up! 🌻🐝
Thank you, pootoo!
I liked the other members of the Brotherhood so much that I resurrected them with a console command after being forced to kill them (in which I also used console command so they aren't aggroed and lose disposition with me)
The voice of Lucien Lachance sounds like the voice of emperor Palpatine from the cartoon version of star wars.
And then there is the orc who remembers when his kill was a little girl at her birthday party
Remember that the Dark Brotherhood are the "we should kill anyone" crowd, a fact that made the Morag Tong hate them.
That's the thing, we don't know that. We don't know the motivations of every single person who ever performed the Black Sacrament... except this one, which sucks.
That party you have to attend? Easily could be putting innocent people to death because the guy outside just has a grudge and can't get over himself.
Even back then Dark Brotherhood had what you say? "Good dental plan!" 😁
the hero of Kvatch: "SIthis avaits your soul"
Rufio "oh no, that is very inconvenient today."
"you sleep rather soundly for a murderer" is definitely the first thing I'm saying if I ever meet O.J. Simpson.
8:40 "We don't get many visitors around here, it makes it pretty lonely for me, if you know what I mean."
I feel like I know what you mean, it gets lonely, so you feel lonely. But when you add 'if you know what I mean' to something so obvious... now I don't think I know what you mean...
WOAH. That is incredibly messed up. I think I must have just killed him without talking to him and just completely missed that dialogue. Yeah that dude definitely deserved it.
I love your videos, especially these Dark Brotherhood ones! Hail Sithis 🖤
I had no idea about any of this background stuff Rufio, really cool
Fall sleep so easy to this, i have tried watching it 7 times by now
15:00 "Oh no this terrible ritual which is being done to arrange an assassination and everyone should stop! Anyway this is exactly how tyou do it..."
They don't have good journalistic ehtics in Cyrodil
Love your voice and the way you narrate the story!
Hail the Night Father, hail Sithis
Lucien just standing there smiling at you is so unsettling
Tenant 6: Never use a urinal next to one already being used. To do so is to invoke the wrath of Sithis.
Ru-fi-o!
Remined me of Captain Hook from the movie Hook with Robin Williams.
Missed all this! The game just keeps giving!
Man, i love this video. If you have more like this, i'm going to subscribe. Btw, that convo between two khajits was one of the very few that made any sense in oblivion. Wondering if it wasnt scripted
6:40 Not gonna lie, I love this line ('I do not spread rumors, I create them.') It's low key one of the more bad ass lines of dialogue in the game, imho.
I used to always sleep in rufios bed when I killed him :D
It didn't work for me for some reason 🤔
@@DarkLOREDash i had purchased a bed for the night too so that may have done it
Lmao Lucian turned into Palpatine when talking about the tenants
your voice-over is 💰🔥
I could eat sweet rolls all my life, that'd be fine with me.
Fun fact, there will be another set of dialog from Ocheeva if your playing as a Argonian.
I'm today year's old finding out you can kill Lucien. First time I met him, I was confused because an NPC in the Isles had died by accident (she ran into the arrow meant for the enemy, died. Game counts it as murder).
I like to pickpocket Lucien Lachance pocket. 😁
hehe I loved the Hook refrence :D
Thank you!! Shout out to Dustin Hoffman
27:03 I knew that Discord is an evil creation
These videos are so well put togeth i love it
They could've left out some details of the Black Sacrament... but to be fair, when you become Listener, some of the Imperial Guard acknowledge you as such I believe.
It's worth if you want to experience the best storyline in Elder Scrolls game.
Never touch the cheese on the playground, to do so would invoke the wrath of the Cheese Touch
Ain’t no way you sound just like Wilburgur
This is so well organized
Thank you 😊
I always found the DB to be neutral, killing good and bad people alike.
I find it...hmmm...inspiring that if You dig out the facts and background of about any character in the Elder Scrolls Series, You are almost sure to find the other side of her/him too.
Like the oh so lovely, well liked, beautiful and adorable Countess of Leyawiin, Alessia Caro! I don't want to spoil anything, but check HER background and what SHE is doing in the shadows.
