    In all the time that I've lived in WA State, I've never flown between SEA and GEG. Interesting that you picked this day to do this because we had a record low tide at around noon, an astonishing -4.3. You could see the exposed beaches from the plane taking off from SEA.
    Good views of Magnuson Park and Lake Washington. Lake Washington actually qualifies as a mountain lake even though it's at sea level. It's oligotrophic, which is very common in mountains.
    Too bad you couldn't see the Cascades and Central WA. If it had been clear, you would've seen Lake Chelan, which is also oligotrophic. This lake is 1500 feet deep, making it deeper than any of the Great Lakes. It's one of the deepest lakes in the Continental US behind Lake Tahoe and Crater Lake.
    Central and Eastern WA has some of the most fascinating and most unique geomorphology and geography in the US. Back during the Ice Age, the ice dam at Glacier Lake Missoula in Western Montana broke and all of the water rushed out causing a cataclysmic flood, dramatically altering the landscape in WA State. All of that water rushed down through the Columbia Gorge out into the Pacific Ocean.
    This is the scientific basis for the Biblical floods. This actually happened many times, not just once. Glacial Lake Missoula would refill and eventually the glacial ice dam would break (again), emptying the lake, repeating the cycle again and again. I imagine that these massive flash floods struck much fear in the indigenous people who lived in this area back then.
    It took a very determined geologist, going against the grain of the geological scientific consensus at the time, against much resistance and censure from his peers, to prove his theories about what happened in Central WA during the Ice Age.
    Anyhow, good flight video as usual, love the UHD movie quality. The best part: no jetlag on this flight!

      You mentioned that about the tide in my MCI-SEA video. I'm always up for exploring some tide pools, so it sounds like I missed out on that one. As always, a lot of great info in there for people to learn about! Thanks my friend!

    Good gracious! After pushback, I was wondering if it would've been faster to drive to Spokane than to fly! Flight time to GEG was only about a half-hour,gate to gate I assume. The pilot burned a lot of fuel just sitting there on the taxiway waiting for one or more aircraft to finish their pushback and engine start. Noticed during #1 startup, some puffs of smoke. Vast array of choices of beverages --NOT! :) Interesting how the landscape changes as one flies eastward. The greenery so many thousands of feet below reminds me of perhaps Iowa,Illinois or gulp! Joplin! Cannot believe there is THAT much demand for seats between SEA-GEG that Alaska chooses to use a -900 series on this route. Any idea where that E175 was headed to? Is it legal for passengers to carry on small pets? Distinctly heard a dog bark at landing! Did you have a short layover before boarding for elsewhere?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  2 роки тому +1

      I did have a short layover before heading back to Seattle on another 737-900. Just like SEA-PDX, SEA-GEG has basically an hourly shuttle. I've taken it several times now, and it's always full, no matter what aircraft type is being used. The 175 that was sitting there must've been broken down or something. It sat there the whole time I was there and when I left, it was still sitting there. As for the dog, it is allowed to take small dogs or cats if they're paid for, but they're supposed to remain in their carrier and be able to fit under the seat in front of you.

      @@sla31 This was one time when eastward travel didn't result in jetlag for you. :)
      Last week, on The Bold and the Beautiful, Ridge and Taylor got on a private jet from LAX over to Monaco, a 10 hour flight where you lose 9 hours. Yet, they were completely unfazed when they got to Monaco!
      I need to learn their secret!
