Someone probably already posted this but I didn't see it. David was running a fever this night and his band was so worried about him passing out that they made him sit down for this performance. It blows my mind that being that ill and still sang this that beautifully. His voice is beyond words!!!
There's actually a little more to that story. His illness was also affecting his voice, and the sound guys offered to autotune his mike because they were afraid that he wouldn't hit his notes properly. He refused, because he would rather fail honestly rather than succeed artificially. Then they autotuned his mike anyway. It didn't ruin his performance, but he was still really pissed when he found out. In fact, he said that he would never perform on Conan's show again.

David's voice is biblical.. make you feel the lyrics..everything his does, even in his metal..legendary vocal artist
I listen to a variety of music, from country to rock to rap...But Disturbed is by far one of my top favorite bands...David's voice is amazing. They have a lot of amazing songs.
Eve's Planet the reason that this rendition hits you with such feeling is that you get the message and you are totally in agreement with the arrangement and how David sang the song with such emotion!

David Draiman said... When they recorded this he was in the booth for three hours and when he came out everybody was listening to the playback in complete silence. He then knew he had done something special...
he also said that he listened to it 3 times and it affected him emotionally. He said he hoped it would affect others as well.

I always love these reactions so much, whether it's Nightwish, Jinjer, this, or so many other things. But is it just me, or does no one else ever point out that this Conan performance is not *just* Draiman? I mean, he just kills this, but that's literally Disturbed up there ... Donegan is on the piano and the guitarists are ... ya know ... playing guitar to the sides!

Just subscribed & yes this cover of the original Simon & Garfunkel is truly epic . I tear up & get emotional every time I listen to this song , so does millions of people around the world . More emotional now because of the pandemic. You emotions are beautiful & so are you , inside & out . David Draiman has a trained classical voice & trained to be a cantor.
Check out a Disturbed song called uninvited guest, his voice on that will blow your mind, it's so good..
I've said this before and I'll say it again... A 1965 song written by Paul Simon re-imagined by Disturbed in 2015; datz 50 years!! For me, this is by far the best song these past 5 years!! This song literally ambushes you... catches everyone by surprise! The powerhouse vocals, the imagery, the amazing arrangement, etc... just a great song reimagined by a Heavy Metal band... done right!!
And Paul Simon absolutely LOVES this version too. What an astonishing performance by Draiman, the band, and the wonderful musical orchestra. Ten out of ten for me.
I just wanted to add, that over half a billion people have now watched the official music video. Just think about that. Around one fourteenth of the world's population. I bet the majority of those people had their minds completely blown by it too. Incredible.

As I said in my comment on your reaction to the official music video, this song became my all-time favorite but what I failed to mention was that I consider both the official version and this live version, even though they were different in arrangements, equally the same in my ranking.
Just so you know, after Paul Simon saw this performance, he contacted the band to tell them it was better than the original Simon & Garfunkel version.
David is a classically trained Jewish Cantor. Conan's backstage crew came out to watch this. First time ever.

David and his brother were classically trained singers. He turned to metal and his brother is an opera singer.
Paul Simon said he wrote this after a dream and the meaning is still argued about.
The video I feel talks of the rediscovery of lost music. One island find the sheet music, the other find the instruments and travel to them...
Paul Simon saw THIS very performance on Conan and loved it.
Poor David was really poorly with a bad cold when he sung it on Conan, so I urge you to watch the official video to hear David in top form and the visuals really add to the music.

A wonderful reaction to an amazing song, performed by amazing musicians, and of course, the incredible David Draiman. David comes from an orthodox Jewish family and when he was younger, he fell out with his grandfather who hated the style of music David had chosen over traditional Jewish music. Thank God they both made up with each other before his grandfather sadly passed away. David has a remarkable voice, I'd say it's totally unique.

I have been lucky enough to see Disturbed live multiple times and this song live in person is something else entirely. So damn amazing truly.

He was clearly classically trained. You cant do a vocal fry like that and not destroy your voice if you d.c ont know what you're doing. The Fry is the growl he gives in a sustained manner, towards end of song, and then he goes back into Tenor, like its nothing... THATS HARD to do. He had classical training.. he has a Beautiful singing voice. He manipulates it well. He has to have been trained Classically.

I was (& sometimes still am) devastated by the loss of my little boy and nothing ... NOTHING ... not even Hold on to Memories

React to Disturbed cover of 'If I ever lose my faith in you' .. a cover if Stings song.. moved from a love song to most prevalent in our time now..released Sept 11, 2020 during on going pandemic..and anniversary of 9/11.. watch the official video..look how he moved it to losing the faith in one's self during these times of challenges. Truly powerful. Sound of silence is still my favorite but this also hits hard in how David is able to being yet another cover to life for our time
