I can actually hear the bells.
And the cello!
Its super hard to be a parent after having a tough childhood and look at your kids and think "I was this age when..." and its also incredibly healing at the same time but it is very tough. Disarm is so beautiful.
You got this!!!
This song really is some of his best. Corgan has such a unique voice.
The new CYR album is interesting. I thought it had 4 or 5 solid songs. Not the best in their library, but definitely solid songs that deserve more views. It's mostly synth driven though so if you aren't into the whole synth thing than you'll probably hate it.
Unique like nails on a chalkboardd
I'd be honored if some Smashing Pumpkins & 90s fans would take a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal cover of "1979" on my YT channel in tribute to the great writing of Billy Corgan and the iconic status of the song. Live acoustic with no digital editing. Peace out and stay safe.
A shitty voice
I wouldn’t say his voice is unique. In fact, I think that is a weak point even if he manages it in a superb way.
He is a genius guitarist and composer.
When this album came out, I was an 11yr old girl in Australia. My parents had just split and I hadn't seen my dad since and mum was too high to give a shit. This album got me through my entire teen years when Eminem was king amongst my friends. Id listen to it every night on repeat. Im 35 now and I'm still discovering meanings in lyrics and the sound still gives me goosebumps. This song and the entire Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness is part of my soul forever. Thank you for everything ❤
This is one of the best songs ever written.
personally while this is good, i love Zombie myself
I'd be honored if some Smashing Pumpkins & 90s fans would take a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal perforrmance of "1979" on my YT channel in tribute to the great writing of Billy Corgan and the iconic status of the song. Live acoustic with no digital editing. Peace out and stay safe.
It breaks my heart when children aren't loved by their parents.
The tone of that guitar holy shit
god damn Billy Corgan is such a talent.
Seeing Billy Corgan in my recommended feed gives me a warm feeling inside
GABZITO!!
Yea especially when he’s chillin with Epstein
Extremely underrated song writer, He's a rock legend period
One of the few true musicians that are pure, honest and down to earth. Thanks Stern show for another great interview!
IDK, I think there are a great many musicians who fit all those qualities
Not too sure about down to earth lol, Billy is weird, and i disagree with some of his spirituality shit, but he's my number one favorite artist
A poor excuse of a musician
I think Billy's guitar skills had always been underrated btw.
Pretty easy stuff to play but it's beauty is it's simplicity
Indeed, an absoloute shredder.
He’s got one of the most effortlessly amazing right hand techniques imo
@Luke yes bro 😃 even before SP the band play shoegaze pop new wave with shred melody bcpz Billy is metalhead
@@Liscome easy to play not create. FYI he played most of all the instruments on the album as he was frustrated with the other band members not showing to record and when they did it was slow too many retakes etc. He's a perfectionist . D'Arcy wasn't on the recordings at all just toured.
This is why I love the Pumpkins: You can really feel Billy's passion in his voice! I can't say that for many other bands.
So well said
He needs some sun but don't we all
IMMEDIATELY when I saw "Disarm on Stern", I just KNEW he was gonna introduce the fuck out of this beautiful song and make the whole thing even more sentimental.
Having survived abuse, this song has a whole new meaning. Amazing. Best version.
The Smashing Pumpkins were one of the bands that epitomized the 90's sound. Raw. Haunting. Visceral.
SIAMESE DREAM---UP THERE W/ OK COMPUTER AS ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME.
Above OK Computer
As soon as my little girl was born and they laid her on my chest I looked into her eyes with tears of joy and love and that night after recovering from giving birth I cried because I then realized what love was. How could both my parents not have this type of love for me like I did and do for my daughter. This song is hits home.
Older I get, more emotions it pulls out of me
Back in the middle of the 90s, I was forced to stay in bed, four endless months, due to a car accident. I asked my elder brother to buy me Mellon Collie, and I spent all these days, lying in bed, listening to it again and again. When I finally got better, I went to the local record store and I purchased a copy of Siamese Dream. First time I listened to Disarm I cried, don't know why it happened, I didn't know anything about Billy's family troubles. It just happened. Even nowadays sometimes I found myself crying, while listening to it. It gives me goosebumps, masterpiece!
Whenever I hear the lyrics “cut that little child”, it breaks me down. 10 years ago those lyrics wouldn’t have meant nothing to me, but now that I’m a father of two boys, I can’t imagine how any parent could abuse their children physically or emotionally. I’m not the best father in the world I’m sure; but I never want to be remembered by my children as a parent who never let my children know that they were loved. A child’s mind is fragile and the things and bad habits that you direct towards them out of selfishness can damage them forever. Fathers, love your children. Tell them and show them that you love them every chance you get, even if it’s just doing little things. Thank you Billy Corgan for keeping me on the right path as a father with your music..
One of the emotionally deepest songs ever written imo. Doesn’t matter how many times I hear it it kills me and it takes me back to when I first heard it and all the subsequent times I listened. Billy Corgan is far underrated.
I was driving to work this morning singing along at the top of my lungs to "thru the eyes of rubi". Masterpiece after masterpiece.
Love it. That album came out the month I was born. So glad I found it 19 years or so later
My fave pumpkins tune of all time, an absolute classic!!!
Nice. That and "Here is no why" are my two favorites.
" no one is asking for the truth "
Love that song. There is an acoustic version on the MCIS deluxe edition in case you haven’t heard it.
He has a cool unique rhythmic way of playing.
Maybe I'm just saying this because I was a teenager and everyone seems to say this about their teenage years but the 90's was golden for music.
Disarm and Cherub rock are my two favorites from Smashing Pumpkins.
One of the best song writers of the past 30 years
I cried so hard when the girls on the cover of Siamese Dream recreated it. I swear all of our other emotions are just preparing us for nostalgia.

Billy's musicality is simply insane. We are blessed with not only some incredible lyrics, but also with amazing and haunting music that is so entirely unique that it elicits an emotional response. I am fortunate to have grown up with the Pumpkins.
Howard knows how to set the tone and bring out what he wants from people. Not to underscore Billy's amazing talent here. It's just been nice seeing Howard use his gifts and influence to bring more truth into the world, instead of focusing on what sells.
Glad he's able to keep refining himself while staying true to who he's always been. I think that's the best kind of growth.
Billy you're one of the most inspirational artits of all time. Your music is just gorgeous and your lyrics even more. THANK YOU
siamese dream was and is one of the best albums ever.
I remember when I was in high school in the late 80's and early 90's, I was only into Metal and punk rock...then I heard the Pumpkins and it open my eyes to a whole new genre of music that I have loved since.
Isn't Billy Corgan such a legend? One of the greats
Pitchfork wrote a review calling Billy Corgan completely irrelevant in 2020. I think what they meant to say was Pitchfork is completely irrelevant.
He's not completely irrelevant, but as much as I love and adore the SP you can't deny that they are not talked about nearly as much as their other contemporaries. Cyr is pretty ok ], but nothing to be marveled at. The problem is that what they released in the nineties was perceived as so good that, unfortunately in the eyes on many people, the band has never been able to quite capture that high again.
Still I do not wish for relevancy with any of the bands I listen to. If it happens great. All I simply wish for is music that I perceive to be good. Hopefully on their MC&TIS sequel album they will be able to resurrect what mad the band so glorious back in the day.
Funny how reviews are often just projections.
Who the hell is Pitchfork?
Who's pitchfork?
@@avenwhitt9474 lmao word
So many good memories. 90s as a young teenager Pumpkins where the best to sit around drinking with mates and at party’s!
Their best album. This song is one of their best and I always listen to it on the radio and when music video tv was around in the 90's I would always watch and enjoyed that video. Brings be back.
Your call... no question for me their best is Mellon Collie
My pick for greatest Alternative album ever. It sounds as good all these years later. Still moves me every time I play it.
That guitar sounds so beautiful...
I’ll never forget hearing this song for the first time. I must have listened to it a million times over after that. When I first learned to play guitar, I learned on the acoustic. And this was the first song I ever mastered on the guitar. Still an all-time favorite.
Thank you Billy - a million thanks for your beautiful contribution to humanity.
Fave SP song. Hands down.
Top 5 Smashing Pumpkins song. My favorite is Stand Inside of Your Love. Mr. Corgan thank you for honesty and musicianship. Bless your heart. Stay safe and be well.
Stand inside your love is my favourire as well great song
my heroes of the 90s 🤘
Such an unbelievable song and moving performance. So simple and powerful.
I came from the same sad background thats why i loved this song back in the days.
By far his best song. Thanks Billy.
Awesome. I knew it was a depressing song, but was interesting to hear some personal backstory from the man himself.
Such an amazing artist
I really enjoy the relationship Stern and Corgan now have. Two of my favorite voices joining.
Billy’s got such a unique voice
I play it,read it,cry it and saw it million time ... never stop to play it Billy
Namaste
Awsome billy.....we miss u and love u your former greenview neighbor's
I never get sick of hearing Billy Sing he is so dam good that sometimes his music will make me cry and I don't understand that and I hide that pretty good but the music just sends my whole soul and body to a point of extremely touched and happy so
Its good to see our admired rockstars are coming back on the scenne even on new platform embracing the new normal and helping us again get through this tough times❤️👍🏻👌🏻
This song never fails to break me every single time. Love you, Billy! 💕
Fantastic
Great performance Billy! Chills every time dude!
Simply amazing.
Reminds me of when I was a little boy.
Billy should be right there with Dylan, Springsteen, Petty etc.... Hes literally at the top with them. His output is insane
I always think of The Shield when I hear this amazing song
That finale.
Definitely, some of the best use of music in a show, ever, especially in that scene. It’s crushing to watch
one of the best songs of the 90s
Saw them live, second row. Can't say I'm always smart with my money, but this time it was a great investment. Cried my eyes out during a couple songs. SP has been with me during some very hard times in my life. Thank you Billy.
Billy is the man
Means so much more being autobiographical. Interesting timbre picking near the bridge for the brighter tone.
Greatest Pumpkins song Billy Corgan ever wrote
Wow what a talent. Love that extremely unique voice that can summon a huge amount of emotion with the lyrics. They say that everyone has a double? Hard to imagine this being repeated.
I'm not a huge fan but this song is really beautiful and nostalgic. His voice is aging nicely.
Stern is in his prime. Exceptional interviewer.
Saw the Pumpkins at Milwaukee Summerfest, probably late 90's...I can't even remember exactly. LOL This is probably my favorite song from him, and it is awesome to see him still able to play and sing it so well. Billy Corgan has always fascinated me, both with his music as well as his unique views. It would be so much fun to kick it with him at a good old fashioned Wisconsin BBQ sometime! (as in lots of beer)
This brings me back to the 90's, fuckin love this band
Always a favorite
His voice is getting better with age
His younger voice was better. More grit too it. He sounds like he’s straining now
I wonder if he changed the key. Definitely a lower register.
That's happening to most men, because we dont whine or moan like pretty ladies. 🤣🤟
Perfect
Deeply moving to this day.
You can see how he is emotionally connected to this song-
I LOVE YOU BILLY 😍💗💛
fucken legend..
Listened to this entire interview on the road yesterday while doing deliveries. Amazing stuff.
I agree! Billy is so honest and authentic. He's always been my favorite interview guest.
Yeah this song man, cuts real deep. Im glad for it actually, not that it solved anything, but I wasn't alone, and yeah maybe him writing it helped me understand them a little.
I saw him perform this song live in Atlanta last year w/ the Pumpkins and i had chills the whole time. Amazing talent is Billy and I agree with the other posters who said he's better than ever at the present...
Thanks Billy:) Your music for so long has lifted my soul, whether it was embracing and facing sadness or welcoming the freedom that happiness brings. Peace and love everyone x
I remember seeing him play this song live on TV, when it first came out. A string broke on his guitar, and he just kept strumming so hard. You could feel the emotion pouring out of him.
One of those performances I'll never forget.
Unique song in the world that ever make me cry. I can't be a litle boy again, but i guess I finally "perdoei" my father. I forget how to say this verb in english! Oh! Wait...! "Perdoar" is forgive.
can tell billy is really putting in the voicework, hes able to sing better live now than he could when he was releasing this in the 90s
There's an operation that singers are getting (Steven Tyler had it) that is actually improving the vocal range of aging singers. I wonder if he took the scalpel dive?
That’s because of the auto tune available now
no way, he literally sounds like a little boy in this video.
Its horrible
Add this to the list of truly amazing acoustic performances that have been captured on the Howard Stern show. Phenomenal performance by Billy. Floored.
At home, solo, acoustic guitar and sounding amazing. Is and will always be my favorite singer/artist. 🤘🏽🎸🎃
Yesterday, I saw my Spotify wrap up for the year and this was my most played song of the year. Now YT recommends this video, what’s next ? Billy Corgan comes to my house ?
I would of loved to see Howard’s face during this performance
Amazing gift to the world. Was a privilege to see the smashing pumpkins in my home country of south africa over 20 years ago. Hope you can your here again soon
Disarm is right up there with 1979 and Cherub Rock
I still remember buying this album on cassette.
Still killer ❤️
Yay I love Billy on the show😁
He sounds great!
I feel like I am chasing a ghost. I'm finding all of this SP music being played.. It's like an early christmas. Stern, not too many fans love real music. Kudos...
Such an awesome song!
Big fan of the Smashing Pumpkins and I do love this song, but for me, the best lyrics are from “Muzzle”. It’s such a perfectly well written and touching song!
Goosebumps
Always impress on live performance...even i Heard it thousand times...it still touche me every time ... Billy is so true when he plays it...
