Thank God I found someone who draws traditionally black hair, I literally started drawing and drew a blank because I've never seen many black hairstyles drawn
thank you so much! i'm an asian artist, but i always want to show diversity in my artwork in races, hairstyles, body types, etc., but i've always struggled with traditionally-black hairstyles, so this was a big help!!
Papa's Scooperia Worker Holy crap, I didn’t even realize someone replied. I’m sorry for the late response, but here you go: www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/67209108
My struggle is not so much the time it takes to work on black hairstyles, but more so which hairstyle to draw since there are so many different hairstyles to choose from. 😩 It takes me forever to decide!
I'm not even an artist but I've always wondered how black character's hair was created and I'm flabbergasted at how easy this is! Thank you for sharing your skills with me!
i have black characters in my story (as one does) and i wanted to draw them with hair that isnt just vaguely curly and this is incredibly helpful. i was intimidated at first because i was going by the beginner logic of drawing all the details, but now you showed how to simplify it, so thank you :)
i stopped drawing for 3 years and then i found your tiktok and now im on my drawing playlist drawing at all times of the day lol (btw this is going on my playlist and i might do a youtube video trying to recreate these hairstyles so thanks for the video idea and i love your drawings!)
Thank you... my friend asked me to draw him and he has beautiful locks... I drew a complete mess at first than decided to look for a tutorial. Yours is great and super simple to follow. Appreciate you. Bless up. 🙌
This was so helpful! As a black woman with 4B/4C type hair, I want to get more into drawing poc, but I was never taught how to draw textured hair. Your art style is beautiful, by the way. Subscribed. ♥️
The issue isn’t that other people have 4c hair too...it’s just that we’re not all American. Black people aren’t exclusively “African Americans”. This is just a black hair tutorial.
@@ccharles1085 when you're talking about white characteristics or asian characteristics you dont say "white american" or "asian american" you would say white and asian. you should say black when you're talking about something that deals with black people regardless of their nationality because black people reside all over the world. tl;dr all african americans are black, but not all black people are african american
Filtrations here’s the thing, though. You and everyone who clicked on this video knew what he meant. Also, not all Asian, white or black people have the same characteristics. Ie Ever heard of Gaelic features? There are diff cultural elements that influence the way that styles are presented. So there is a distinction between continental Africans, Europeans, Americans, Islanders, etc. It’s disingenuous to ignore that. I think you all just wanted something to complain about.
I'm self taught, teaching myself to draw and your tutorials have been so helpful, easy to understand. I actually got the "Hair" the first time I practiced all the styles you showed. #Thanks
Dude! All of my black characters are about to get a major upgrade. I stray away from drawing them often because I'm not good at the hair but this is SUPER helpful. Now as a black guy I feel confident in drawing characters that look like me. Thank you SO much! SO glad I'm subbed and this came up.
AHH FINALLY A GOOD TUTORIAL. Curly and or fine hair is soooo hard to find drawing tutorials! One of my main characters has very curly/afro like hair and now I can draw her better ahhh yes!
Thank you so much! I have multiple characters with 4C hair types, and yes most of them are of African heritage (not all of them are American) and my favorite styles to use are the braids and afro puffs! You didn't talk about puffs specifically but tips from the afro will still help.
I draw sometimes and I was struggling to draw our hair. 😂. But I'm glad that I subscribed to your channel. And now I can take the African-American's hair to a another level. Thank alot.
This was GOATED honestly. Really been struggling with texturing hair and slacking on the wave that is afro textured hair for my characters. I'm trying to change that-- really push for showing onlookers that people of colour have always belonged to this medium!
I'm drawing Amanda Gorman for practice and stumbled across this video because her hair is so beautiful and deserves justice. Thank you so much for this! Def will be checking out your other tutorials--so easy to follow along.
Omg finally I find a tutorial for textured hair!!! My partner is black and I've been wanting to draw her for so long and I don't really know how to draw textured hair so this was a god send
you are a life saver omfg!!! im doing character design, and I needed help with the hair. please never stop doing what you're doing, it helps SO MANY young artists out there!!
great tips! tysm. drawing features that arent always seen is so fun. maybe im minimalizing but its like an extra tool in your toolkit. besides, making ppl feel seen and heard is a huge, huge point of art in the first place
I literally saw your tik toks in so many compilation but without my glasses I could never read your handle. It took me a whole week of constant search to finally find you! Honestly best tutorial I have ever seen for African hair and I can't wait to use rewatch for my POC OCs!
THANK U. ive always wanted to give my characters different types of hair besides just straight but never knew how i should do it so this is so helpful.
this is the first thing that came up when i looked into properly drawing black characters' hair and it couldn't be more helpful! it's exactly what i was looking for, it was so much easier to follow than other video art tutorials i've tried to follow for other subjects in the past and also your art is so cute! thank you so much
Came here from the TikTok tutorial. DUDE. These are amazing resources, and i wish any art class I took back in school had taught stuff like this. Hair has always been one of those "Oh god, what do i do with this?" moment when drawing figures, but seeing it broke down like you've done makes me want to start experimenting and playing around with it again. You are doing amazing work, sir. Thank you for your tutorials
This man is so funny 😂😂😂😂And cool. He keeps what he's doing interesting and fun to learn. You got my sub 😂😂😂😂😂. Thank you it really helped me with my Manga character
Saw this on twitter💚 Had to find the full video. I've been trying to create everyday (sketch, painting, poetry or work on one of my books) I'm gonna watch all your videos so I can get better in the art department, you're a great teacher.
Dude, thank you! You are fantastic! Why can't most artists be this fun, funny and informative? I learned a butt ton in 13 minutes that most artists take over an hour to teach!
Thank you so much. I've been wanting to draw more diversity and learn instead of using online bases for my chericters because i never felt i could draw the hair right. This has become one of my favret videos for learning.
I recently started getting back into drawing and doing pictures for the books I'm writing, and my female main character has this elaborate afro haircut. I was watching other tutorials on how to draw anime etc. but I never found any with afro hair before so this was really helpful!
Thank you soooo much. Its wild how much digging I had to do through youtube to find this. I swear the black and poc artists aren't popular enough here. Meanwhile y'all be just as talented... its a shame.
I followed this video from the Resource Document on Understanding and Portraying Black Hair Respectfully by louham! just to spice up the textures in my OC's hair. And I did NOT think the dreads would turn out to be my favorite part!! They came out super good especially after they were shaded and colored in. I now have 4 braiding techniques, and I wanna try to make my afros look better now too. Thanks a tonnnn!!!
You are very talented! I love your style. There isn't enough minority representation in the tutorial world. Keep doing this!! I found you on tiktok and now I will be tuning in for youtube lessons for real 💖
I am slowly rekindling my passion and practice of drawing. I have been looking for dope tutorials featuring Black hair types and styles. Thank you so much😄 your skill is admirable and you energy is infectious. Props bruv✊🏾
Thank goodness this videos was made literally I have been drawing bushes on heads (and I’m not good at bushes either) and bad ropes that I thought looked like braids that I end up just changing to hair bushes. Thank you!
Cool video, and the short hairstyle before you put the afro on was working really well for the middle character too but been keeping some of the tips when I have tried it, so cool video.
Thank God I found someone who draws traditionally black hair, I literally started drawing and drew a blank because I've never seen many black hairstyles drawn
@Imaru Lewis same
I recommend the UA-camr #Talart, who also has hair tutorials.
Bro youtube didn't even tell me this got 242 likes 💀
Exactly! Then in majority of anime’s and cartoon shows the black characters have mostly straight hair😭
@@deajahnaismith5344 bruh ikkkk like they know dang well we black people dont got straight hair😭

I'm Black and I've drawn an anime version of myself before, lol.
The hair was easy to do too. I have a flat-top hairstyle :)

Does it really matter it was a hair tutorial not a black people history tour (im saying this and im black)
