This is how I remember Saturday nights. I’d watch this religiously from the age of about 8 before bedtime. I initially wanted to be an A&E Sister after watching this, I did experience A&E as a student but I am now a nurse practitioner for the Ambulance service. Cannot watch Casualty now as it isn’t medically accurate! My late mum would put it on TV whenever I visited as she knew I’d pick holes! Despite its faults the earlier era from the beginning to about 1996 will always have a place in my heart 😊
wow - i was 6 months old when the first ever episode was shown on air :) i badly want to see the end credits theme when the ambulance was driving in the city at night on call, damn i miss those days!!!!! R.I.P
This theme was back in the days where this was just one show towards all departments of Holby. Now they divided it into 2 different shows with 2 different theme tunes and honestly the Holby City has gotten the upper hand out of the 2 now show wise with better characters.
I remember this theme tune when I was kid in the early 90s right though to 2001 plus i liked even more from 1998-2001 when they made a little bit of change i use to sing to it but I still love the theme now but not as good back in the day.
The slightly weird thing is seeing the ambulance staff in the uniforms of the era. I remember in the 1980's it still had this smart, formal look to the uniforms (like the police did until the mid 90s when Stab Vests became the norm) as opposed to today's more functional uniforms.
times change, its nobody's fault that bacteria are becoming resistant to the cleaning products which used to work well, and disposable scrubs are much more hygenic than a fiddly elastic belt, a lace cap which was difficult and time consuming to fold and a pointless clip on collar all of which would be thrown into a locker at the end of the day and not put in the machine till the dirt showed. take it from someone who works in a hospital.
bro where can i watch this series? is it available anywhere? is it lost media? i been searching for this for so long everywhere, its like it never existed.
and look how long it took to wheel the critically ill patient from the ambulance to the resus room, through a maze of corridors and gawped at by all the people passing by. nowadays there is a back door which goes straight in via the fastest route, precious seconds saved for someone who might be having a cardiac arrest. but i suppose somebody wants to 'bring back' the old method to sate their lust for nostalgia. pfft.
Interesting to note not just the ridiculously long route to resus but the Doctor's tie has touched the casualty and probably several others before that. Yuck.
Peter Shipway They use actors that are not in the show for their title sequence. They originally only had the one consultant who was Ewart Plimmer. But I think that might be Julian (another consultant) in the theme.
+Peter Shipway The actors in this title sequence don't really appear in the series. The doctor is Peter Salt, the medical advisor of "Casualty", and the ambulanceman (the one with the peaked hat, holding the IV bag) is Clive Haddrell, ambulance advisor of Casualty.
I have always loved this theme, it added a nice touch of suspense, they should never have changed it, and changed casualty into a soap. Sadly, it has gone the way of so many of my fave shows, including London's Burning and Holby City. I think the slower ending theme of the old casualty is great too, and for the record, IMHO, the only medical soap shown over hear that was any good was Shortland Street.
This version of the theme tune should be used nowadays, since the 2020’s are looking to produce 80’s styled music.

I can remember this as a kid and it used to scare me to death.
Hahaha
Me too 😂
I still think they should restore this theme for the 25th series/25th year. A great nod to Casualty's past.
This used to seriously scare my sister with the mask at the end. We now both work for the NHS

One of the best theme tunes made
this is the eeriest and best theme from Casualty i think
Why? Because of the Sirens or the 80s Synthesizer Music?

Im a Nurse and I absolutely agree
Nice to see others do too
excellent piece of work
They should bring this back! 👍
Everyone forget about how creepy the theme is - *look at the graphics!*
They. Are. *TERRIFYING*!
Love this - Casualty as it should be (more akin to real life)!!
Great, dramatic theme tune. I made a recreation of it on my channel.
I miss this theme tune
there is a modern matron and a specialist infection control nurse on most wards.
I still sounds just like The Tripods opening credits, although I think it's the same composer. v=3AmykynKhMw
