This is doing serious numbers right? and since I loved the video and it was nerdy af - I love it! So either your new recipe for clicks via title is everything, or this community is far more nerdy and interested in dynamic eqs than I thought! Is the watchtime comparable to others?

I'm an old fart mix engineer and I have to say, a lot of these type plugins makes me shake my head in disbelief. Who the f**k are all of these bells and whistles for? Seriously... nobody will ever have time to create emotion in a mix if they're perpetually f**king around with all of this BS. I'd bet that 99.9% of the folks listening to a mix wouldn't ever be able to tell the difference between this EQ, the ProQ3 or a stock DAW plugin.
The entire plugin industry has taken hold of the concept: Create a need and fill it. Obviously it's profitable.
There have been countless amazing albums completed throughout the years with only 4 bands of analog EQ. This is madness. People....step away from the crack pipe and just mix the music. Unless you're trying to fix a problem in a zillion dollar movie score, I just don't get it.
I'm not crapping on this product: it's amazing at what it does. I'm just bewildered. Paul, awesome job as usual.

A few months late seeing this review, but I've had both EQs for a while, and thought Kirchhoff was the pinnacle for clarity across the spectrum with a wider stereo image. But to keep objectivity, as I frequently do to avoid the "new-shiny--plugin must be better than old-dusty-plugin" trap, I recently tested the latest version of ProQ3 against the latest version of Kirchhoff in null tests, and most importantly, A/B blind listening. Other than expected slight differences in filter slopes, they sound pretty much identical. I did the same with Sonible SmartQ3 (demo) and CraveEQ2. Same result. They are all great EQs at the core level. They differ in application and features, but are far too similar in sonic quality to matter more than experience and skill.
In all my years of producing and mixing, only one rule has ever proven to be consistently true: less is more. If a mix or track starts sounding like it needs 6 more plugins, or hours of tweaking a dynamic EQ with 8x oversampling and artificial intelligence-matching, either the mixer needs a vacation, or the track needs to be re-recorded. Every single plugin, especially multi-function (dynamic EQs, multiband compression, etc) can quickly degrade the quality of a well recorded track in a mix, and the mix itself. Even with mastering, if you need that much control that late in the production, someone screwed up the mix or the recording. It happens, but it shouldn't if audio really matters. I might have used the dynamics section in these EQs once on a couple of dialog tracks, but that's it. Sure, it sounds impressive to have a dozen filter types with upward and downward dynamics. But resist the temptation until you know when you really need it, and then use it very sparingly.

I like kirchoff eq more than pro q3 because of all the extra curves, but i think they still need to change a few things. I shouldn't have to click the hand every time I want to use the freq spectral grab. They should make it a bitt more automatic like FF Pro Q3. • @PaulThird
      @PaulThird  2 роки тому +3

To be honest I wouldn't say waves f6 is a complete eq though.
EQ cramps which is quite disappointing and uses a basic threshold control.
Don't get me wrong you are right that there's no reason why it shouldn't still get good results as it's still a basic dynamic eq but many guys prefer to have more dynamic control and like the phase options dependent on the source.
Just playing devil's advocate. I own fabfilter, waves f6 and now kirchoff and I don't have any need for f6. I even curve matched it a long time ago with fabfilter and for whatever reason I preferred proq3. It was completely blind and level matched and for whatever reason I could always pick out fabfilter as what I preferred.

True but tbh sometimes it's good to have the option of just the curves as there's already more than a dozen emulations of each already. Bettermaker for example is completely clean and people love it compared to pultec emulations as you get the curve interaction without the overly coloured smeariness a lot of pultecs have
A lot of the times the curves are almost as much of a sonic signature as the harmonics which in a lot of hardware eq's are generally quite clean anyway 🤓
Also you can take the SSL, Neve, pultec curves etc and turn them into a dynamic eq which is a pretty cool option

I've purchased other plugs or bundles from Waves, TDR, iZotope Audio Thing, and I'm sure a few of others who escape my recollection in the moment.
To answer your question more directly, I tend to buy plugins that free products have yet to do really well or comprehensively, like reverbs and other toys.
I'd be surprised if I've dropped $500 on plugins in my life.
As an aside, I still remember very clearly my days (in the mid nineties) spent drooling at the prospect of having a single reverb unit, four-band parametric EQ on every channel and four channels of compression. Can you imagine what I can do with FOUR channels? The mind reels.
For the last few years, every time sale season rolls around my eyes get really big and I fill my carts at all the sites. Then I take deep breaths and wait until the sales have expired and when I come to I realize yet again that I've missed out only on some instant gratification.

I just use Neutron 4 and Izotope because thats where I started and the learning curve is continuous. Do you think it'd be detrimental for me in the early stages to switch, or should I just learn Neutron until I master it and then move on. Dunno if i'm making life harder by this logic or whether it makes sense. Everything described in the video I can do in Neutron its just a bit more complicted in terms of having to open up CPU sucking elements of it. Great review BUT wondering if there´s any sound being modelled with all the filter types or are these just the curves. If this thing offers emulation sounds next to digital precision it has a huge benefit over Pro-Q3. In this case it would be more comparable to the DMG Equilibrium which also has "analog" type filters. But I´m not sure if these are just the curves or if there´s some harmonic modelling going on. Would it be worth to do an additional comparison?

    1.More smooth and detailed Slopes

    3.Wallpaper customize
    4.Less latency
And still lacks these functions below which I think are very often used in Fab Q3:

    3. Keyboard Scales
    4. Wet/Dry Control

I really, really, really, really, really fucking LOVE the "Analog Modeled Filter"...ex.=Type E, British N, EQ 250, etc. But I wanna know can you use different filters for all 32 bands or whatnot? So if I'm Eq'ing the bass and want an SSL E black low frequency, the API mids, and the Neve highs can I do that without opening 3 different instances? And can you sample and incorporate your own "Analog Modeled Filter", like how you used to be able to sample with Nebula 3 server? As I really need one with the 9000J or K in it, as everything I run through that console the lows sound bigger, deeper, cleaner, lower, whatever you wanna say..... And the highs sound more high, open, airy, more HD or 4k, or HDR...whatever you wanna say...etc. But I wanna be able to pick and choose which frequency band out of those 5 or 6 consoles for whatever instrument/vocal I'm working on! So for guitar I'd want Neve on the lows instead of SSL if it's distorted, and for Dave Matthews'y type of stuff, that requires good acoustic guitar I'd want that ssl 9000 series clarity instead, with the API's mid forward punchiness, and a bit of Neve saturation in the low highs, with the high high's airy and crystal 9000. See what I mean. So that we can pick and choose each band, and pick which console combination we want for each track....like a colour pallet! Want something like that for a live pedal as well! Have any console you want in your effects pedal, like your Kemper, Axe Effects, or Line 6 pedal....as their the big boys with the digital platforms. It'd have to be good though. Maybe Slate would do it....hmmm.
