    It seems like they combined the quality of DMG Equilibrium with the MS capabilities of TDR SlickEQ Mastering Edition with the interface and ease of use of Pro-Q 3, with the analog curves available in Equilibrium and MAAT thEQblue and other mastering EQ plugins and then some, and added an even better dynamic section than that of Pro-Q 3 or TDR Nova GE, and then came up with a mixed phase algorithm just because.
    Hats off to the guys at Three-Body Technology because this product really stands out in the current market and the price is not crazy compared to other top of the line EQs.

      The only thing that confuses me is that the company they mainly make virtual Chinese instruments and some saturation and basic EQs. Then they suddenly create the best digital EQ in the world? No doubt they've done some great work, but how did this small virtual instrument company in China leap over FabFilter, DMG, Weiss and others so far? Maybe they just lucked out by hiring a genius audio software engineer. Or were FF and others taking too long to develop updated versions e.g. Pro-Q 4, which I bet is gonna have most of Kirchhoff EQ features!

    I still prefer the Fabfilter Pro-Q3 because it's still more comfortable for me. Yes, it has fewer functions, but the workflow is maximally optimized and simplified - years of development, after all. Kirchhoff EQ is more functional, no doubt, but less convenient to use. In addition, although there are many curves that emulate analog equalizers, they are just curves, without saturation. Plus, these curves are not yet very convenient to include. Now, if there was analog saturation to analog curves - then it would be top!

    I picked this up a few weeks ago and really like it. The great thing is the demo has no time limit and only restriction is loading and saving presets. Only con I’ve seen is it doesn’t seem to have the ability to add analog character, it’s just a clean digital EQ. Which isn’t a big problem to me. Another great EQ similar to this but not as advanced is the HoRNeT Total EQ which you can pick up for like $14 on sale often. Total EQ does have a per band saturation feature. One con is while it has dynamic EQ per band it’s fixed. But a good simple option that is very affordable.

    After using Kirchhoff for 2 months, I found myself going back to ProQ3. Maybe I'm one of few who had this issue, but the Kirchhoff couldn't keep up with my work load of 35-50 tracks, each with plugins. It began to run slowly and render my projects difficult to work on. I literally thought my PC was dying, but realised later it was just the Kirchhoff that was the issue. Going back to ProQ3, I missed it so much and projects began to run smoothly once again. I would like to iterate that I have friends who enjoy the Kirchhoff and switched to it, but it's just my personal experience and I didn't enjoy it.

    Dave, 2 questions.
    1. Does this EQ allow to switch to Linear Phase mode for dynamic EQing on either mid/side? For example you want to add dynamic boost on sides but with Linear Phase mode
    2. Many times you mentioned that using Linear Phase EQ for HPF and low end filters is not good idea. Indeed using regular EQ for HPF while mastering in most cases sounds better. What about these new Linear Phase modes for HPF?
    Thank you

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  2 роки тому

      To the first question, no you can't do that, it would be pretty tricky to achieve that because you'd have different latency, probably you'd have to delay the minimum phase signal as well but also, I don't see much use for that.
      Second question: this is gonna minimize most of the problems regular LP have, especially with mixed phase since you can even select the xover freq. Time (and use) will tell.

I tried demo and I couldn’t hear a problem but maybe my hearing hasn’t developed to hear that (heard that when things are linear it can cause a ringing but when it’s not tone can be drastically different since you are adding/taking away from signal). Does this matter? Did I fall for a “new guy” mistake being concerned with something that isn’t a big deal? Any help or clarification from someone is appreciated :)

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  2 роки тому +5

      Its ok, you're a bit confused because the terms are confusing. "Non-linearities" referes to all the idiosincrasies that real analog hardware imparts to the sound, that includes saturation (which is never static, it changes constantly depending on settings, level, interaction between bands, components and whole lot of other things), phase shift and more.
      So when you see that these "analog models" don't have non-linearities it means they only modeled the curves of those eqs. It's not a bad thing, you have a transparent eq with proven to work curves from famous eq's.
      The pre-ringing is instead a byproduct of a TYPE of digital eq which are called "linear phase eq's". This has absolutely nothing to do with the previos scenario.
      Linear phase eq's are used to specific tasks where other type of eq's would fail or these would just be better. But these eq can cause "pre-ringing" and smear transients and so on. So the right too for the right job, there's not one size fits all.

    hello, in frequency2 (cubase stock plugins) you can declare more than one side chain source, and each dynamic band can use a different side chain source
    (it s really cool feature for example with a single instance you can duck the lowend with the bass, duck the mid with the vocal...)
    , can kirchoff do that?
    right now i m using pro q3+frequency+split eq + some analogue eq emulation (with non linearities)...i wish i could use only one plugin to replace them all.

    Very curious about this one. I’ve always liked linear phase EQs in very specific scenarios (such as a top end boost on something not transient heavy, like vocals) but actively dislike them most other places. I’ve always wondered if the quantization noise and transient smearing is part of what I’m hearing that I like about them in those upper frequencies. I’ve also thought that an EQ that allows different algorithms for different moves would be helpful (as opposed to 2 different instances). Curious!

    Being able to use a Neve-style curve for the high's, an SSL-style curve for the mid's, and a seemingly ISA-style curve for the low's? Seems pretty bad-ass to me!

    • @benjamin_hill

      @Hell Cat I’ve found that as well. I usually only apply it sparingly to the low end for light subtractive shaping before it gets sent out to my analog chain.
