I have been BURNED by so many string of pearls. I’ve finally decided I don’t need that negativity in my life anymore 😅 I agree tho, they’re just so beautiful!
I bought my first one a month ago. I just noticed some balls shriveling up at the base :( I think it's because I watered it to much. Here's hoping it dries out and can stay beautiful ❤️
I over watered my string of pearls....as of today there's literally only ONE pearl left. I hope it survives. Additional tips from you will be highly appreciated.
i am really hoping the medium i made will be draining enough. such a diva! i have other succulents that live outside all year and they are just beautiful! 2 years and counting! 🙏
Ok, my mom has a green thumb so she does a lot of weird things. Maybe this will help anyone with their strings of.... So this woman has kept the string of pearls, string of dolphins, string of bananas, ruby necklaces, variegated pearls (bright shade unless it's morning sun), and string of tears in the morning light and during winter all daylight due to not enough sun in the winter..hanging high throughout the year with a spoonful of cinnamon ( my idea to keep mealybugs away) and let it stay outside while it was raining and pouring during fall and spring season and they are growing like bunnies. We will soon get a tent to keep them in the shade as it will soon turn way too hot and they will look like they are being cooked in the sun and become tan and get dried up. But we have learned. Just keep them outside and let them enjoy the rain. We have found as long as it is not pouring to the point of absolute hurricane, and they aren't going to be flooded or that it will freeze its pearls off, the succulents thrive off fresh rain and air (we live in NorCal so we don't get a lot of rain in the summer). In fact she puts all her succulents outside and lets them enjoy fresh rain and air the 2" pot babies, she is more careful with. We even keep rain water (don't keep too long or mosquitos will breed) to water the plants. We have seen them enjoy the rain and air more than the water we have from our hoses and we have seen them look fresher just staying outside. Now, I can't say for those who live in a place that has 60% - 80% rain out of the year since mom has a tendency to tell me not to water too much during high humidity or very cold situations as there is a lot of water in the air. This also does not mean letting them stay outside if it is raining a lot all the time. Strings don't mind if the soil gets dried out (just don't let it dry out too long). In fact, wait until you can feel how light that pot is due to no water, then water it and water until the water starts to flowing out at the bottom. Then let it have some fresh air and some sun and wait again. And keep them away from central or home heaters. Darn things kills my moms succulents and plants like dried up raisins or making them gushy.. don't know why. they just do.
I am always worried about over watering my string of pearls. I'll take a few of these tips and try not to worry so much about it drying out :) Thank you :)
Finally a good tip for pearls to not rot!! I had to learn the hard way. Any way I learned that off I put my pearls on top of tanbark and that helped not get rotten. Also at the bottom of the pot.
NO! All (but air) plants require some (even just a bit) of soil to survive. You can use rocks and a coco mix sprinkled with cactus style soil. As long and there is soil floating between rocks, that is sufficient.
My string of pearls came with mealybugs I quarantined it but now its turning black.. I've sprayed neem oil.. they keep hatching.. I'm gonna try getting them outta the dirt and dipping them in peroxide and making sure none of them have anything on them.. hopefully they will make it another night
its very hard dealing with mealy bugs on the plant because it has so many nooks for the bugs and eggs to hide. best is to repeat treatment however you also need to becareful if you are doing any kind of drench because if the medium is to dense your plant will get root rot! 😭
I need advice😭 My own string of pearls had tiny micro insects ( can say hundreds of them) in and around the soil- some have even morphed into transparent maggots. I have no idea why! This is my second one. I hadn't watered it, barely touched it. And then this happens! The first SoP, i had watered it just once and the same micro insects had infested it. By the time i realized it had turned to mush, the roots and pearls all soggy and squishy. Saddened needless to say. What should i have done? Please, need your input on this. Thank you X
hard to say but you got maggots twice? that's very unlucky 😔 I would probably have change the soil if my plant was infested. but over watering was the cause of death it sounds like.

Thank you! I'm having some issues with my string of pearls (the kind that have a little pointy bit) and this may be exactly what i need to do!
i dread dealing with it but i am a lot happier now. at least it doesn't look like a hot disgusting mess anymore
I am just wondering if the plant survived? I've tried to find a new video about it but I couldn't. :)

Cinammon Cinammon to keep those mealy bugs away!!!
Update??
I dis not see the video update for this one
Suspense! How did they do? Did it work out ok? Mine got accidentally rained on, and I’m in the process of salvaging the ones that didn’t burst!
I see some new growth on them so something is happening! Good luck with yours =)
Update????? I’m trying to help save my wife’s SOP and couldn’t find your update video
do you think string of pearls and the string of hearts can grow in a soil less environment?
yeah, i can't think of a reason why any plant can't grow in a soil less medium.

Thanks. But don't they rot due to excess humidity? Mine have been doing so and it's frustrating.
it's need extra humidity to root without it it won't so it's matter of finding a balance that works for you
pleaseee updateeeee
they are growing but slowly, I think I am keeping them too dry
