How To Choose a game for Twitch Growth
Personally, I think too many people rely on looking at the top games by viewers on Twitch to pick what they play, because I think there is a much better number.
Category Followers. These are the people who have hit follow on a category or game, and if someone has done that they are pretty much going to get recommended on their homepage that category. They’ll also get recommended other categories they like watching, but you can’t see that number.
An example, Stardew Valley a game I got a lot of growth in when I started, took me from 10 avg to 20 avg, has 798,000 followers, an incredibly active community who love it religiously, it still gets updates, has npc’s that are chatty so it's good for smaller streamers with less twitch chat to respond to, but it only averages at 500 - 800 total viewers and you only need 5 viewers to appear in the top 3 rows.
The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Wild4games and Nutty.

this is probably the best advice i have found to share with my friends and community. people are always asking how do i git gud and it is hard to give the a good reference.
@@revdragonus9917 Thanks I appreciate the kind words! Just trying my best!
all of the games you listed are the types that I'm not into and have tried and haven't enjoyed playing, so how can I find a game like this that I actually enjoy playing
@@bunkleberries By following the instructions in this video that showed twitchtracker and other methods?
Doom and what time i streamed at really peeked my stream, i had 3 at the start and ended with 10
for my second stream i got like 10-15 viewers playing Alien Isolation. Horror games are kind of a good way to grow but
can be also really hit or miss. For starting streamers i just want to say is that the first thing u should do is turn off the
viewer count, those numbers will mess u up.
Absolutely!

I love your videos and feel like they are going to help me starting off on chasing my dream. Thank you thank you
Hey! I just wanted to stay thank you for making these vids. You have really helped me in my stream journey, I am now a twitch affiliate and have 7 avg in only a month, and it’s from using your tips. Thanks man and keep it up!
Darkest Dungeon is actually what I first started out with and am going back through. Love your videos and they have been a big help with trying to help get my stream off the ground
Found your channel a few days ago and I’ve basically been binging the past few days lol. You’ve definitely earned a new sub. Super great content and advice dude keep up the good work. I’m glad to be here before 10k subs because this channel is going places.
Welcome to the team! Thanks for the kind words! It's wild to think we were under 1000 subs just 28 days ago, and now we're closing in on 10,000 at such a rapid rate! I appreciate the support!

I cant even put in words how grateful i am to you and this video. I was struggling with no random people joining my warzone stream. Then i watched your video and decided to try other games. It went inexplicable well. I wen from 9 followers to 18 in only one stream. 6 People joined and stayed till the end. It was one of the happiest moments i had in life. The feeling of accomplishment is indescribable. Thank you, thank you very much for the tips and i really wish you a happiness and success.

Very happy that Minecraft made it onto this list! I just started streaming for a month and Minecraft was the main game that I decided to stream. Because of a lot of advertising and a building if communities I was able to get 22 max viewers on my last stream! It was just really cool to see that you think it was a good category too! Thanks for the video!
Smashing it mate! Keep it up!

As someone who's beginning to play with this all, I appreciate your ideas. Also, I love your framing and lighting. Really nice look. Still a little wary to begin actually streaming anything other than working on music to Facebook.
Thank you very much for the kind words, man! Glad it can be helpful! When you decide to jump into it all, hopefully you'll be a step ahead and confident!

I appreciate that a lot! Thanks for the kind words Steph, can't believe you've watched all of these videos tonight!
I just want to say thank you for this video after watching this video I ended up buying breath of the wild and streaming that instead of streaming warzone like I usually do and it was my best stream yet. I had the most people watching every in my couple months of streaming and actually had people in the chat through out the stream. I had so much fun last night, there was times where the conversation was going where it was hard to concentrate on the actual game. Keep up the great content man and again thank you very much!
Hey man, I just wanted to say thanks this was a super helpful video for me. I've just started out, this is day 3, so I was looking for any advice at all and this has easily been the most helpful thing I've found so far. 10/10 good vid.
Glad it helped! Thanks so much for the kind words! Seriously, it means a lot! I have other content for starting streamers as well that could be helpful!
Thank you! This is a great guide. I will start streaming better games for growth instead of trying to compete in oversaturated games.
Glad it was helpful!
Hey dude been checking your vids for a while now. Loving them, starting to put into practice 🙌
Great to hear! Thanks for the kind words!
wwoo that's great advice, been busting my head on what to stream (just started with twitch). It makes sense. Thanks :D
I'm literally just starting streaming sometime this week. I just got my mic, set up stream lab, and my twitch channel. So your videos are going to be an amazing resource for me! Keep up the great work man and hopfully I can grow like you!
Also, do you have a discord I could join?
Hey glad to be helpful! Yep, the stream scheme discord is linked on the UA-cam channel banner!

Stream Scheme: “pick a game that is perfect for growing an audience.”
Me, knowing damn well my long ass play through of all the Pokémon games isn’t gonna grow at all: “interesting.”
They actually can go well :) Just need to add stakes to make them more engaging!
@@StreamScheme I guess my stakes are that I’m terrible at Pokémon and that’s it’s to get me better at the game or something. I dunno, Twitch isn’t my main focus, UA-cam is, I just also find enjoyment in Twitch, so I’m not desperate for a huge audience, that doesn’t mean the advice doesn’t apply xD.
@@algernon7272 I know this is 3 weeks old but maybe doing challenge runs for pokemon could be a good idea? Or name pokemon after viewers to encourage engagement?
Hey Stream Scheme! I love watching your vids and Think your such a good teller! Im a new streamer so these kinda vids really helps me! Ive Got an idea of a vid (not sure if you’re done one already) but the idea is like the best items for small streamers (like mics, webcams, and more)
I'll check it out! And thanks for the kind words!
Definitely agree with this ideology! I primarily stream art (which isn't great for fast growth as it's a very over-saturated category lol) but I also splash gaming streams in from time to time and one of the categories I consistently do well in in Splatoon 2- it's another one with over 1 mil category followers and not that many concurrent streams at any given time. If I were mostly focused on growing my channel quickly I would consider swapping over to streaming more of something like that... but alas I'm mostly streaming art to have fun and give motivation to work, so all is well :)
You seem on top of it! Good work!
Hey Eljay, DId you ever give your top 10 games for streaming? Also an updated 2022 list? Thank you for all your amazing work!
You know this is my first time seeing you and I like you so I dropped a sub great video
I appreciate it! Hope the video helped!
Dope advice. As much as I originally wanted to stream some jrpgs, I feel they’d alienate/not interest most potential viewers, if they’re not big mainstream ones like FF7 Remake. Would love to hear your opinion on this.
I'd say it really depends on the game and how active the community still is, absolutely! It all comes down to how many people are following AND still actively wanting to watch people play it. Hope this helps!
Thank you for making these videos this really helps
I’m so glad! Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Great video, this is very helpful. Thanks man!
Glad to help! If you have any questions I’m happy to help!
Really great video! I'm going to recommend this to my friend Adam. He's just starting to grow a channel and is clueless about how to do it. And most other things in life
Thanks for the kind words! Glad you took something away from the vid, and thanks for sharing it!
I love this video, you didn't just use empty words like "oversaturated", but gave actual numbers and title recommendations.
I still struggle to find my game since I love horrors, but Dead by Daylight is too big and other games are just quick story-based playthroughs. I tried Darkest Dungeon as well... Maybe I should just switch to a different genre after all.
I think Stats and proof often help people to really understand the odds there up against in those categories, and as a small streamer who went and watched stream coaches and guides, I always felt they didn't go deep enough or give practical advice on theory/social topics so I try put a lot of time into explaining in a way anyone will understand.
Darkest Dungeon was great for me, but it was only short lived fun with the Stream Chat before we moved on. I wish I knew more Horror games to help, but sadly I have never really done that genre!
I played Carrion which is kinda a reverse horror game where you are the monster. Not massively popular but might give you something different to play. I also play Graveyard Keeper which is one step even further from horror but it has some gory elements like taking flesh from bodies to sell to the local townspeople.
2 years later I still refer back to your videos even though I just stream for fun and as an exercise for my therapy. Thank you for everything.
Wow, this is really helpful. It is amazing how much time you invest in (both into the videos and interacting with your audience). I want to start streaming, but im very introverted, so im looking for tips online. Your videos have been a great help. Tysm
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the video, very educational. Question: if I'm just starting out and looking at 2-3 average viewers or so, should I even care about the game's growth potential, or should I focus entirely on making sure that my stream can appear in the top three lines and pick the game based on that? I'm thinking, this might be a way to start building a community that will partially transfer to other games, even if the initial game's growth potential is limited, thereby letting me hit more popular games with a greater growth potential.
Top 3 lines AND Growth potential still.
Active communities with decent growth potential are crucial! :)
Hey there, great video man! I was wondering, what do you think about playing multiple games at once, growth wise. For exemple : monday is X game, Wednesday is Y and Friday is Z. (Would be clear on the schedule).
I’ve tried it and it made retention tough, I think you’re better off playing one main game for a few weeks and then switching if you want to do variety.
Viewers need time to connect with you as a person before switching to a new game, they won’t come back Tuesday if they aren’t interested in the game since they found you playing X Monday.
Just my thoughts while growing though!
Thanks for the help.
I love people who actually spend the time to talk about the noobies.
Great content my dude! I’m always looking for new ways to grow! Thanks for the vid

My biggest issue currently is that most of my streaming is through playstation, and I don't have a capture card to stream with my laptop, so my streams are generally limited with that. But, still good advice for the future
bro how are you only getting 19k views, you deserve so much more for what you're doing
Until the start of this month we only had 1.5k subs, and we've only been uploading for 3.5 months so I am really happy with where we are now! But I really appreciate the kind words!

Without you here, idk what would help me right now. Thank you soo much for the games and tips :)
I'm in a weird predicament. Started streaming in in April, grew quickly, got to about 50 average viewers a month or so ago which has tapered off a bit, but now I don't want to touch the game that got me to this point. When I play other games I see little to no growth, which could be coming down to the discoverability of said games, but it makes it difficult to branch out knowing I'm not attracting new viewers. Any advice? Should I bite the bullet and accept that I may lose a decent amount of my existing audience, and start building it back up from new sources?
Awesome video dude! Watched 3 or 4 of your video back to back and you have some fantastic tips.
My go-to for game transition is I do community nights on Saturdays where the chat can all play games with me.
I do just chatting segments at the start of the streams or generally, I make sure I am chat focused to grow that core community.
Then I get everyone VERY hyped for whatever game we are switching to.
This takes it from a game focus to a streamer personality focus, and allows transitioning easier.
I hope that helps!
@@StreamScheme This helps a ton, thank you! It's going to take time for long time viewers to adjust to not always watching the same thing, but I've always had a huge focus on personal interactions and forming friendships with viewers, so the transition may be more pain free than I'm making it up to be in my head. Thanks again for the great content and for the response!
The game I grew with is Squad if anyone reads this comment in the future and is curious. Definitely would recommend to smaller streamers that want to stay in the FPS realm.
Great video man! I've been streaming on Twitch properly for around 2 years and I'm very flighty with games but I have a small community who always drop by and support whatever i play. I'm currently averaging 10-15 viewers and Breath of the Wild is always being thrown around as a game my community would love to see me play. I''m a Zelda fan so i think that's the one I'm going to try out. Subbed recently and I'll be definitly following you on Twitch now. Have an awesome day mate!

great video i started off with rust and was averaging around 30-80 and now that all the bigger streamers are on it my viewers got stolen from me red handed time to find another game to stream for the next few weeks and these tips are well said
Sorry about Rust! Good luck out there though! If you do stick to rust till OTV move on, there will be A LOT of viewers meandering around waiting for more Rust.
Just came across your channel and love how in depth the 0-25 viewer growth video was! I had to check this one out as well and am going to try out Stardew Valley! I had thoughts about the game "Raft", and it's close to fitting the criteria (almost 700 viewers right now and 610K followers). Can't wait to hear your thoughts!
Glad you enjoyed! I played some Raft it seems like a solid choice, I really enjoyed it for the week or so I played it.
@@StreamScheme Appreciate the feedback!

I don’t know your average viewer count, or your type of content so I can’t really pick a good game for growth for you. So Stardew Valley grew more than I thought it would, would it still be a good game for someone who averages 1 viewer? (I've only streamed Sea of Thieves once)
No, too many people. You can still try but it isn't better than any other game now
I've found it's better for growth for me, but i did start out playing Minecraft✨

I know you did some game recommendations in this video but do you think you can tell me some more considering this video is 6 months old?

Looks like black ops 3 is the gold mine with this strategy, over 4.7m subs with like 300-1000 avg viewers
It's important to also look at others in the category and see if they are actively gaining follows using Twitchtracker. Sometimes a category isn't great for long term growth but it's hard to tell without looking at other streamers as well!
Some of the games that would be good for streaming, I just can’t sit down and play for 3+ hours on end without getting bored or burnt out, do you have any advice to keep the stream interesting even though you’re not really having fun playing the game after awhile?
Always play games you’ll have fun and enjoy, this videos list isn’t a “must” that’s why I show how to check over games and see if they are good.
You’ll find something and be able to play it and enjoy it, it just takes some research :)
This is easily the best video I’ve seen when it comes to game discussion, so thank you! :)
I just have a quick question. I have three main games in mind for streaming, being Hollow Knight, Breath of the Wild, and Minecraft, and lots of ideas for HK and Minecraft. While being a variety streamer is an end goal of mine, I get that it can be pretty hard to grow when you switch games so often.
That being said, as a small streamer, would playing multiple games at the same time be smart, so long as I schedule certain days of the week for each, or should I mostly stick to one game at a time? Thanks!
I do recommend making one your main focus, you can start with the 3 games and a VERY clear schedule, then whichever one has the best growth for you personally, focus that one while maintaining your others maybe 1 day a week the same day each week.
The goal is really consistently and getting the community invested in you rather than the game, but to do that they have to keep coming back for the game for a bit.
@@StreamScheme Oooh, that’s smart. I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you!
Hey man just found you. Like some of your suggestions. Been affiliate for almost a year now. I've been experiencing a good bit of growth on a game called spellbreak. Your definitely spot on with the small games. From what I've seen if your game is in the couple hundred average viewers range its a good game for growth
Glad to hear it! Welcome into the community! Hope it helps!
Do you think R6S is a good game to stream. The views are average around 19-20k views.
You'd have to give it a go with the system shown in this video, and compare with your average viewers! Good luck!
My girlfriend is my only viewer. Unless im playing Jackbox with my friends and im streaming that. Then it's well the 5 of us
Best way to start out!
Stupid question but does she look the whole stream and comment haha ? :D just curious.
Using Stardew Valley as your prime example made me laugh a little bit because I love that game to pieces but the times that I streamed it were some of the deadest streams I've ever done lol. I'll still stream it again in the future just because I love it, but I appreciate your video making me feel like I'm not totally crazy for even trying to stream it.
It isn't great right now sadly, a big update came out that has reinvigorated the game but also made the game category rough for all the smaller content creators!
Hey i know im Late but i just got into Streaming and UA-cam Because I've been thinking about it for a while. Im Not sure if your ever gonna see this but an updated 2021 video for games to stream would be great. I love the content its very useful keep it up!
Not sure I could do an update to this, its a step by step process to check any category you want to see if it is a good category for you, an update would just be the same video again because the steps don't change.
Hope it helps!
