I just wanted to say thank you for the videos. I am a lady in a tight budget so when something goes wrong on my car I go into panic mode. Thankful good people like you give people like me an alternative. I followed your directions and have complete success. One concern I had (because of not of my lack of knowledge) was how the or if the hatchback was still going to lock. I was pleased to find that the lock system has dedicated wiring to the latch so it hasn't been affected. Couldn't have done this without your help. Saved me a lot of money. Thank you and anyone that helped you with the video.
This video is AWESOME!!! My mom uses her PT for her cleaning business so not being able to open the gate was incredibly inconvenient. I was able to get a unibit, button and lock tight for $30 and it works perfectly!!! Thank you so much for saving her hundreds of dollars!!!
Thanks, your video was extremely helpful and straight to the point. Not of bunch of extra BS like a lot of videos contain. You've helped me tremendously!!
AMAZING! My 2006 cruiser did the same thing but my husband took it to the dealer and you are correct it was about $400. to repair. Now I have a 2010 cruiser and it did the exact same thing. I watched all your videos in this series and didn't even have a drill bit but I used my dremel and O'reilly's had two of the switches! Now they're 10 dollars but I'm THRILLED this was so easy to do! THANK YOU!!
Thanks for the great videos! I followed your instructions exactly, and now we have a working latch. The switch is also sold by Autozone, Part Number: 84822.
Thank you very much! This switch is PERFECT for the application; it looks like a factory install. Instead of pulling the emblem/housing, I used the switch backer nut and a Sharpie to mark where the switch went and my Dremel to enlarge the hole until the switch just fit into the housing. The whole job didn't take an hour. Another option is to swap the circuit board from the car's key into a Chrysler key fob with a truck release button and get the new key cut to match your car. The circuit board has the trunk release, but it isn't used on the PT Cruiser. The fob shells with the trunk release are are only about $10 for a pair.
I can tell you guys all thats the solution for real and so cheap, I bougth the button on amazon and i did it,...its so easy Thank you for this excellent video
Great video Clark. No one else posted anything about the latch. I have the same issue the emblem is not opening. My key fob will trigger the switch wirelessly though so I'm pretty sure it's not the actuator. By the way I got started 5 years ago on youtube just like you posting 1 video about an issue no one else posted. Now my channel has almost 6000 subscribers and decent monthly income. Keep the good videos coming good luck! By the way I posted a video for a manual hack to solve this issue as well with just a pig tail pull vs a button.
I watched your videos on the hatch swt. Do you now have to use remote to turn on the circuit before pressing the new button switch? Or is it that you just have the key turned on and the new button switch will open? Or does it possibly open anytime with a press of new button? Would seem unlikely you would want it to function that way. I was thinking of just having a piece of aircraft stainless steel 1/8" corded wire attached with a loop and crimp locks attaching the wire on both ends so you could just have the loop coming up through a hole drilled in plastic cover making it a manual open which you would have to actuate by going through a back door and reaching in to pull loop. From what you have seen on the latch mechanism, do you think that would work?
Are you supposed to be able to open the rear hatch with the car running? I will have the car in park, running and the rear hatch will not open. Is that a safety feature?
Need too zoom in to see what he's handling. I was hoping to get more from this channel since he did it in four parts, but he skips too many steps & in my opinion
Clark i made a link in my video description to your video on my channel. Hopefully it will get you more views. This was a great video lol i just created a pull wire vs a switch on mine which works great but i can say you were the first to post a video about the trunk handle on a pt cruiser. See my channel
