I really like your systematic approach! Also interesting to see the reasoning behind your setup - it would not work for me because with the snare that high I would hit the snare with the backs of my sticks during tom rolls.
Is that cause of push-pull that you hold the stick closer to the middle?
I actually hold the sticks pretty far back (however not as far back as you do) but when I do the "push"-motion (and my fingers and thumb are stretched out) the back of the stick goes very low.
Wanja here wow!
I hold the sticks way far back, u have to on smaller sticks to get the right fulcrum plus mine are now bottom heavy from grip/waterproof tape/cushioning, but I keep my entire set much lower than my head. My set is really low. It helps prevent shoulder and elbow injuries or in my case I am catering to existing injuries. The arms are more designed to stay to the side and as u move them the shoulder takes the burden. When you bend the elbow again you are in a unnatural state than can pinch nerves and that will call on the shoulders if you need to move with bent elbows. Hard to explain the mechanics without showing but i need to be able to hit many parts of the kit with a twist of the wrist rather than shoulder position change. Shoulder injury may not be the most common to drummers but it is to weightlifter and fighters THEN trying to drum with it is stupid. Tho the elbow pain, yes thats part of drumming. Also live no one sees the drummer. It's like u don't exist cause a set is covering you up.
Oh look the 2 main dudes I learn drums from on UA-cam, what is this? A crossover episode?
Please don't stop making tutorial videos.
They have helped me a lot.
(i also envy your dress sense
..)
I really enjoy your tutorial, usefull and funny \m/
Thanks mate. The best workshops on UA-cam. After 10 years of Guitarplaying in a Death Metal Band I wanted to do something new and started with Drums - I'm already 39 years old 😆 Your videos are "simple", clear and very helpfull. Now, after 1 year of playing I'm Drumer in a Thrash Band. Thanks for your Inspiration 😉
I’m not a metal drummer and I find your tutorials quite helpful.
Those "incorrect" rolls sounded like parts from And Justice For All.
Awesome as usual dude, Keep it up!!!
Excellent video !!!
Outstanding tutorial, as usual
Very informative and technical. :)
Thank you Eugene, quality tutorial as always.
Thanks for the awesome videos!!! You're a great teacher!
always educational, greetings from Chile
These are fantastic
Eugene = the king!
Can't wait till work slows down to make some time for my kit. Thanks for another awesome vid, brother!
thank you Eugene ! greetings from brazil !
awesome!! nice setup for me too!!
Your videos are the best. Not boring at all. Love the editing, backtracks and everything. Keep it up
Thanks master Eugene!
Eugene thanks, you helped me a lot in drum study and techniques!
Great video like always🍺👍
This tutorial is great! It helped me overcome some of my problems and it even gave me some new ideas for fills. Thanks
Grande Eugene! 🤘
If i ever get too play in the same venue as you i'm glad you have a setup close too mine
Again a really informative and detailed tutorial. Also, your English is amazing
Useful i like ur way of approch..
best teacher
Thankyou Eugene
Great video and also funny and helpfull :D ..
Super tutorial (as always from you!). I'm just working on Ryabchability... 👍
Yeeeeeeeeeee, I've been waiting for something from Eugene.
First like then watch
I've been drumming for over 25 years but only recently have I started trying to get into more extreme/speed metal drumming. Your videos have been great so far in helping me readjust my kit and my playing style to take on faster stuff.
Excellent video, my friend. Well done. Also.... 9:28 "Hiya Pal" completely killed me lol
Disney bribed me XD
Thanks for the setup part. I have a 26 bass and 16 and 18 floor, so I am struggling a bit with proper placement. I recently started trying the 1 left/1 right floor tom setup, as it seemed easier on my back. I think I'll have to move my bass drum off to the right a little, it's now somewhat central and it makes it more of a hassle with the rack tom. Great video, again (as always it seems)!
Thanks I'll be rearranging tomorrow
Another great tutorial! I always love the practice exercises. You had a few in this one, but would love more (like your Beginner Dbl Bass video). Keep rockin!
Yeah well, these weren't really drumming exercises, more like demos, just showing some particular details.
Gotcha - still a great video :)
Thank you Eugene \m/
Good man, I follow you from Uruguay watching your videos, from them I learned a lot and it makes me happy that there are people like you who share their battery knowledge for free and in the best possible way. I consider him a great drummer with a lot of technique and philosophy behind music, I hope you keep growing, you are great, greetings from far away.
Oh, by any chance have you seen me playing this summer with Vital Remains in Montevideo?
No one explains so systematically and in depth than him. I thought that drum roll was just used to fill some gaps.
Very informative tutorial. I really like this a lot.
I laughed at the part of the Mickey Mouse "HIYA PAL" part. That got me entertained.
Yeah, that's Mickey :)
Thanks!!!
9:19 looks like kévin paradis' setup haha ! Great video !
It was indeed my intention.
Hatred???? Never! We're grateful.
Eugene! I need to tell you something. Thanks !!!
ok
Great tutorial man. Good info! One question though, if you were using a third higher rack tom, would you maintain the "mickey mouse" setup and add the 3rd to the left of the most left tom? Or would you go for a more evenly spaced setup with 1 rack tom directly ahead of the snare and the others on its side?
Thanks for asking this question. You either have the 2nd and 3rd as mickey mouse and put the first one to the left (this is how Pete Sandoval uses it), or you have the 2nd tom in the middle or 1nd 2nd mickey mouse and third to the right. I tried the second and third configuration before. And to be honest I still haven't made up my mind. I don't play with 3 rack toms that often, but maybe I will do that in the future.
Nice video Eugene 👍🏻. Can you do a video on bursts?
Not sure what you mean by that.
Eugene Ryabchenko sorry, i meant bursting.
ua-cam.com/video/clap3PLe82c/v-deo.html go to 3 minutes 59 seconds and you’ll know what I mean.
U talk about "proper" transitions and smoothness etc but I think you sound great and on time even on the "bad" one. Generally drummers play a backbone role (by choice; neglect to want to be better) but with modern drummers there is nowhere to go but up. guitarists and other musicans even go as far as playing *robed time* where timing is 'lost' but not at all. Marty freidman is one well known player who has been labeled as such a player. I think whatever u got work with it. Are drummers there to just keep time? In the past yes but you guys today are so much better and have to push the envelope. Hope to see more drummers who are the staple of the band in future bands.
Eugen thank you for your video. I hope you can help me with the next question.
I'm right handed and when I play single pedal beats I use my right foot as normal, but when I play double bass my lead foot is my left foot. And that's because When I play single pedal rythms I keep the beat like 8th notes or 4th notes with the hihat pedal. Do you recommend me delete that and start leading the double bass with my right foot? Becaus I think that is one of the troubles that I have that don't allow me to improve. I just (as your brother) can play until 120 bpm. Thank You I really appreciate if you can answer me.
9:20 well how do you explain kevin paradis's high toms :') anyway great tuto its exactly how i setup my drum, i feel more confident now lol
Dude, I wanted ask him the same thing :D
Actually I can answer to your question. Kevin's drums are set that way because of 24-freaking-inch kickdrum and very deep rack toms. But, even with that setup, Kevin's drum rolls are superpowerful and accurate.
Yeah, I was thinking about Kevin all the time when doing that part of the tutorial :D
I wouldn't be able to play like that.
Hiya pal killed me
Dude, the way you interchange fingers on blasts is insane. Any particular advice (besides practicing each finger individualy) ???
I don't practice each finger individually. I just try to stay as relaxed as possible.
that´s really impressive how you switch seamlessly, though. any tips on how to, or it just came preety naturally for you as u increased speed/endurance?
Lara needs to study this video
I'm new to this channel, and the first question that came to my mind is: do you buy/own all those clothes for each different video?
Haha, a very good question indeed. I do owe some of them, yes. But not all for sure! I honestly rent them XD
Todo bien master. But... falto decir del trigger no abusarlooooo tanto q ni se diferencia muy bien el sonido de los tones jejeje parecen q todos fueran bombos.
Well it is inevitable to use triggers in extreme metal drumming, otherwise you will sound like crap.
Battletoads And Double Dragon introoooo.
Actually, cymbal bleed into tom mics is a big one.
There's nothing more frustrating than arguing with your drummer to make changes to drum config, while he has spent his whole life practicing with lower cymbals. Flexibility in cymbal high can go long way when time comes to take your music to studio. You not only make sound engineer's life easier, you also get better sound overall with less shit you need to do to your mix to compensate for bleed.
In every tutorial when you're showing an example, your head magically gets shaven... :-)
Hahaha, nice observation, that is actually the other way around. I record the "playing" part first. Then month later I record the "talking" part when my hair had already grown.
Laughed at your back, sorry! :D
Рашн вершн будет?)
Будут субтитры на днях. Озвучка в следующем году.

are awesome
The title is misleading. There's (almost) nothing "technical" about this, it's just a matter of personal preference !
