You're the boss. I'm a beginer drumer and I've learned in two seconds how to play the tradicional blast beat, now I have to improve it.
My problem was what you told in the video, making the wrong movement because of the sound. Then You showed me that was just hiting right and left with the hands but one hand in the hit hat...
So obviusly but didn't realized xD Thanks a lot.

Just a question on the freehand roll: I can do it and have been doing it for a long time, but it's always very quiet in comparison to drummers who record the freehand blast. Any tips for increasing the power?

+Eugene Ryabchenko I believe he is referring to technical drumming which I think is basically just complicated rhythms and mathematics such as polyrhythms and others similar things used in writing beats and fills. It often sounds out of beat or wrong even though the maths of it fits perfectly because of its complexity.

How important would you say the way your kit is set up when playing fast metal. I my kit seems normal but it feels uncomfortable when moving to other drums and cymbals..
dude your the man! im having trouble doing blasts at higher speeds at around 210bpm or more is it how im holding the stick?

Minor correction for a very informative video: Your motion should not change when you play slow or you will never master tricky footwork and polyrhythms. The best tip I can give is to play your fastest double bass technique at a comfortable pace (180-200) and then slowly bring your metronome down while maintaining the same form. If you start to mess up and use your entire leg then start over. It's like playing limbo with your drums! I'm down to 135 from 210. How low can you go? (with your fast technique)
I do not subscribe to Kollias technique or workout. I don't switch between different motions. I only use one technique and hit everything with the same velocity unless the beat calls for a varied velocity. I only use my fastest technique from when I started (heel to toe ankle throw) so I'm pushing it both directions (faster and slower). The main thing is I never use the whole leg because just throws my entire leg momentum that direction and fights against my next ankle stroke. If you are using a double stroke technique then you can use your whole leg on the heel. That seems to work for a lot of people too because it still leaves time for an immediate ankle stroke. There is more than one way to skin a cat but my main point is never use the entire leg (on the front of the foot). If you practice my BPM workout then you will be able to hit hard with only your ankle at any speed. That's unless you can't hit hard at a fast speed either but I've already heard you doing it. By the way you just improved my freehand blasts. Thanks!
+ofadetergentsud After further analysis, my form does change slightly at slower speeds. The only difference is my heels go lower to the ground the slower I go. I guess that's what maintains the power.
I said you can hit it hard enough, not as hard as with your full leg. There is no reason to hit it as hard as you can with your full leg. You could break the head if you want to. There has to be some kind of a limit or your engineer will hate you. I don't want the volume to drop during my blast beats in case its the climax of the song. Using the full leg is also a very inefficient use of energy. Lift one of your legs up and feel all the muscles it takes. You will feel it all the way to your pectoral muscles.
What's strange? the heel thing? When I lower my heels it takes pressure off the pedals and brings the beaters further back which gives more power and makes the lower speeds feel more natural with ankles.
I watched some videos of you playing slower and it looks like you use a combination of the full leg with your speed technique so you aren't moving your leg as much as most people that play with the full leg. That's why you can do that beat on Benzin with one leg. :)
