How to fix a common 120 Series Problem! Fuel Filler Hose Replacement

  • If you haven't been keeping an eye on the trending issues of the Toyota Prado 120 series / LC120, you may not be aware that the small rubber hose that connects the two fuel tanks together is prone to degrading over time, splitting and leaking your fuel onto the ground. This could potentially leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere, and cost you hundreds in wasted Petrol or Diesel in time.
    The fix for this problem is to replace the hose! Its cheap, readily available at most dealers, and takes only 5 minutes to do with simple tools!
    Check out this video on how I went about doing it.
    Note: I removed the spring and bump stop to allow for better viewing for the camera, and it is NOT REQUIRED to complete this job.

    Good video! Because its a filler hose, not a transfer hose the tanks dont need to be that empty, better safe than sorry though! Wheel also doesnt have to come off, 5 min job as you say, from the bottom :)
    Thanks Todd

    Thanks for the advice mate, I ordered one the other week for my prado as a preventative measure without even looking at the condition for mine, got around to fitting it only to discover the original was nearly split the whole way through so lucky I did order it :)

    You said that your main tank or front tank is half full and the rear tank is empty i thought you use the front tank first and when that is empty it switches the rear tank ?

    • @williampeters4429
      @williampeters4429 Рік тому +1

      Think of the vehicle as having an upper and lower tank, it is easier. The rear tank (referred to as the main tank by Toyota) is the main tank and mounted higher. It gravity feeds into the sub (forward) tank which is clearly lower as seen in the video. Fuel is always drawn by the engine from the lower (sub tank), and the fuel gauge system has a sensor that switches from the upper tank sensor to the lower tank sensor automatically. The green 90L light comes on when it has switched to the lower tank fuel level sensor.

    Thank you for all the effort showing about the Prado 120. Mine has the same emgine and dual tanks as well, however the fuel indicator, when I'm on the reserve tank (90L green light on), is quite unreliable. It fluctuates from full reserve tank to less than half. How do the gauge and sensor work? Where can I learn about the fuel gauge?

      If that was the case I would be pulling the sender out of the tank to inspect for faults. Sounds like it is moving around a lot more than it should.

      @@offroadcrusader Does it have a sender for each tank? I looked in some forums and got conflicting information. Some people saying it uses the fuel from both tanks ay same time and 90 litres are gone the computer simulates one tank empty. Where do I find a correct diagram for the tank system? Thank you.

    Could this be the reason my car drops fuel during filling, but then is ok after I've filled? or would that be the fill hose?

    • @offroadcrusader
      @offroadcrusader  2 роки тому

      It very well could be. They are fairly cheap and easy to replace, so it wouldn't hurt to replace it anyway as some deductive dignosing.

    Nice to no, never new that this was a problem. Would like to no were do you get your genuine parts from?

    • @offroadcrusader
      @offroadcrusader  3 роки тому

      Yeah I've seen a few cases where the hose has cracked completely, and people have tried filling their cars up at a servo and lost 100 litres straight down the drain because of it.
      Or being out on a trip remote and suddenly losing heaps of fuel.
      Definitely worth doing if it hasn't already been done.
      I get my genuine parts either online from places like Amayama or Partsoq, or from a dealer if I can't wait for shipping.

    Good vid mate, should put the part number in your video description. Then people searching for the part or how to install it will come across your video on Google.

      My guess would be your fuel tank pick up inside the tank is getting clogged with any floating debris stuck in there. Best to drop the tank and clean it all out.

      @@offroadcrusader when i fill up the both tanks and start using it,the gauge comes to halfway of the spare tank and then change to main tank with the 90L sign comes on so is that normal or same problem?

    Занятно. У меня вместо запасного колеса висит бак для газа, на 92 литра.
    А вот залива горловине и труба в основной бак-сгнили. У нас, в России, сыро и зимой посыпают снег реагентами, отчего машины быстро гниют, А у вас, я смотрю, ржавчины мало.
