Yes, we had the unit go on us at about 220K on a 2007 diesel. I wished within days of having it replaced that I had asked to hold onto the faulty unit to try and understand whether it was a blockage.

Hi Anthony, should I be looking at changing my transfer fuel pump on my 2011 Prado 150, it’s done 246KMS, and one other question, when do you know if the Prado is due for a timing belt change, is there an indication on the instrument panel, cheers.

Hey Anthony. Another one. 2016 150 prado diesel. It happened about 900 km up the Connie Sue hwy. Got it going the usual way- 20 l of fuel ,ignition to on and hand pump it through. Back in Sydney, main filter, secondary fuel manager filter ,and between the tank filter all replaced and all were clean and clear. The breather above the diff was clogged with dust and mud and was cleaned and cleared. Now have the scangauge codes for the 2 tanks and it shows the back tank emptying as it should to zero at about the current consumption of 11 l/100 km so it is not the transfer pump or venturi. What does happen is that with about 40 litres remaining in the main tank [about quarter full on the gauge and 200+ km to go on distance to empty.] it cuts out. I suspect that it is a pick up issue and/or crap in the bottom of the transfer/pump unit so that when the level in the main tank falls below the the top of the white bucket it starves of fuel. Absolutely no problem filling the tanks as some have. Seems like the correct diagnosis? At 840000 km and 7 1/2 years I plan to have the whole in tank unit replaced as you suggest. My question is roughly how long does it take to remove and replace the front tank and r and r the sender pump module so I can get a handle on probable labour costs please. Thanks for your great videos. So dumb of Toyota to make the hole in the floor too small to get the sender unit and pump in and out as you could in the 80 series.

Hey Anthony, love ur channel. Has helped me a lot. I currently have this issue and have been quoted $1800 from Toyota. Can I tell me where you got the new one from. I will be removing the old one and giving it a going over to see if it’s an issue of contamination or just parts failure. She has just clicked over 240kms which by reading comments seems about right. Thanks again mate 👍🏻

Well it happened to me. Run out of fuel on the New England Highway towing a caravan in a section of overtaking lane. Police came to protect the rear of me. Not long had this 2008 120 so was unaware of the problem. RTA towed me to a safe location. NRMA put 20 L in and primed, started again. Run out at half way with 90L light on. New genuine pump on its way, filter looks like its never been changed. Tank out for a thorough clean of component. Was difficult to fill as well. 270,000kms

I have a 2009 1KD-FTV with fuel problems, it has now stopped 8 times with 2 of those needing an isolated recovery. Toyota have had the tank out 3 times and it’s still having issues. They have suggested a new pick up assembly as they have no answers but it’s $1700 for parts only. I can tell you it’s not the second fuel filter, all lines have been cleaned and tank breather filters are new. ( I later had to change filter myself as Toyota had it around the wrong way)
I was there the last time Toyota pulled it apart and there was a small bit of plastic matter inside the jet pump similar to your video you posted a while ago. Cleaned it all out and still blocking, Toyota could not explain how something big enough to block the pump could get In there. Have you experienced the housing breaking down?
My question is do you have replacements of these as getting them at the wreckers in rural SA is impossible.

Wow! Been driving me nuts trying to find what’s wrong with my 2007 Prado about 230k on the clock. This rare problem has happened to me recently. Googling Diesel froth blowback didn’t get me far. I’ve linked this to my mechanic. Instead of Doctor google. It’s google mechanic! Like you said I’ll just replace. Thanks for the advice.

This is happening now on my 2012 150 Diesel Prado, 292K, Just under 1/4 tank of fuel on the gauge and the low fuel light has been flashing. Computer indicates 170 km of fuel left, however need to get this looked at ASAP. Toyota just quoted the part $595 so I've put a hold on the part and getting it.

So is this whole assembly located in the main tank in the 150's? Or is the pump located in the sub tank? Also is there an inspection cover under the seats to get to it or the tanks must be dropped?

    • @boonjabby
      @boonjabby 3 роки тому

In the main tank mate. No access panels, have to drop the main tank. This channel has a good tutorial on removing it

Thanks for the info I think we have this problem in our 2011 150 if had 3 Hiluxs and iv over looked the rear filter think it’s been done once since we have had it maybe 60k plus
If it’s not the filter I’m thinking the pump
Coincidentally happend with 150 km left on the distance so maybe 15 lts of fuel

    Great vid Anthony,👌
I had this issue with my 2008 120 Prado and as suggested changed the whole unit.
If you keep the fuel gauge above half on the second tank you wouldn't know of an issue but played up when past that.

Gday Anthony, and indeed anyone reading!!
My sons purchased a 2008 Prado diesel, with the transfer pump issue.
Has anyone an idea of part number to replace the entire in tank assembly?
Toyota has Twice quoted $2k, but I’m not convinced we’re talking the same item.
Any help, or part number would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey there, I have a 150 series prado, the fuel light started flashing! And I’m now having trouble filling with diesel it’s acting as if the tank is already full? Would what your describing in your video, be my problem?

My prado is only getting 350km of fuel out of a tank, I'm guessing i need to replace the fuel pump as that's what I'm getting out of the first tank 🤦‍♀️
