I've heard about The National from the interview with Chester Bennington, who said that he's currently listening to them, So I've decided to check them out, and here I am after 4 years, huge fan of The National.. RIP Chester Bennington
Thank you Luke. I always loved how you shared your favourite music with me, long drives with you singing behind the wheel are some of my most treasured memories. Gentlemen, I thank you for sharing your talents. There are times I wonder if band's truly understand how much their music helps to heal. We need this new album desperately. The beast is on the march in these dark days. Your music is a balm for souls. Be well, all!
Heals in some many ways, too. The National got me through a particularly dark period, healthwise, in my life in 2011. Uplifting when I was at my lowest ebb. They never fail to uplift. An absolute treasure.
By far the most consistently amazing band of the decade. Over 100 songs and each and everyone of them is amazing in it's own unique way (and that's not even counting El Vy, Clogs and all the other side projects). Can't wait till the new album!! Thanks for being the sountrack of my life over the last years. Much love!
Amazing lyrics! Entire track conveys a surly, yet desperate feel. These dudes are ever-evolving and still fresh as a daisy! An easy GO-TO at ANY time. Gorgeous!
I can't believe these guys are coming back to Argentina and I'll have the chance to see 'em playing live. I've waited for so long and after four years they give us these gold pieces, it's like they never do anything wrong when they do their music. And I just don't have the words to explain how grateful I am for having The National in my life ❤❤❤
Lyrics: I don't need you, I don't need you Besides I barely ever see you anymore When I do it feels you're only halfway there Young mothers love me even ghosts of Girlfriends call from Cleveland They will meet me anytime and anywhere The day I die, the day I die Where will we be? The day I die, the day I die Where will we be? Don't do this, I don't do this to you Don't expect me to enjoy 'Cause I really don't have the courage not to turn the volume up inside my ears For years I used to put my head inside the speakers In the hallway when you get too high and talk forever The day I die, the day I die Where will we be? The day I die, the day I die Where will we be? The day I die, the day I die Where will we be? The day I die, the day I die Where will we be? I get a little punchy with the vodka just like my great uncle Valentine Jester did But he had to deal with those people like you who made no goddamn common sense I’d rather walk all the way home right now than to spend one more second in this place I’m exactly like you Valentine, just come outside and leave with me Let's just get high enough to see our problems Let’s just get high enough to see our fathers’ houses The day I die, the day I die Where will we be? The day I die, the day I die Where will we be? The day I die, the day I die Where will we be? The day I die, the day I die Where will we be?
From the releases so far it sounds like they've made the album they needed to make, more up beat, bigger riffs, slightly more radio friendly songs and festival anthems but fundamentally staying the same. Their progression has been a joy to watch it's a sign of a great band to still be growing 16 years after they released their first album.

Nope. Can't win album of the year with good music, because the awards are just popularity contests. 4 months later, look who wins tons of grammy's. Two guys I don't give a shit about. Luckily they can't be nominated for every single category and the national ended up with a grammy for best alternative album. I've long since given up on the bands that I like getting album of the year.
Don b I don't know if the original poster even meant the grammy's. There are lots of album of the year awards and titles. As you implied, the grammy's aren't the decider of what is good music or not and I think people take them too seriously.
Wow, great song. I have loved this band for many years. I think I love this song more than Guilty Party, which was great. The lyrics really strike a chord with me. Can't wait for September 8th!
2:10 this is my favorite part of this song. That guitar echo followed by the quick paced drumming its ear candy

Wow, great song. I have loved this band for many years. I think I love this song more than Guilty Party, which was great. The lyrics really strike a chord with me. Can't wait for September 8th!
