Imagine you suffered from debilitating migraines, but if you ever mentioned it you got told you were such a whiner. The headache is in your head right? Must be your attitude. Get over yourself. It does not necessarily work that way.
Right when the music started I was once again reminded why I love The National. Sometimes I go months without listening to them because I try and check out other music but something always brings me back and I get hooked all over again. Hope to see them live if they decide to go on tour.
I don't think The National gets enough credit for how funny some of their lyrics are. Heard "I'll be over here lying near the ocean making ocean sounds" and the mental image instantly cracked me up. Love it!
This feels like a return to their style from the High Violet and Trouble Will Find me period in their discography, which was always my personal favorite era for The National

I'm an recovering addict. One thing that helped me was the thought ' you have to live, to see the the National concert'. I know it's childish, but that was the first, then I' ve gotten other goals for myself. I love them. Thank you for making my life better♥♥♥
It makes perfect sense to me, and I can so relate. I've been dealing with depression for some years now (my theme song for 2018 was "Demons"), and last year a nearby show that had been cancelled in 2020 got rescheduled, and we finally got to see The National live. It actually cut through my persistent anhedonia, and is the one thing I'll remember about last year. It was genuinely worth hanging on for. (They performed this song too.)

Is someone also so much into the way Matt sings "with my head in my hands feeling strange" at 1:42 to 1:46? It's sounds so perfectly soft. The whole song has that perfect balance of darkness, softness and lightness. Masterpiece!

It's great that The National gave a new platform to the rising stars in their last album, but I think every The National fan wanted more of them. I kept thinking, "it would have been amazing to have the authentic The National sound with some well-known guests (Bon Iver, Sufjan, Phoebe, etc.). And guess what? They did exactly that!
After cutting ties with someone that I really cared for and was friends with for a while before growing feelings for, I’m realizing even more now how hard it’s hitting me that these lyrics are very reflective of what it’s like to deal with someone who’s got narcissistic traits like this guy I dealt with. Wow. It’s heartbreaking but also liberating when you can finally walk away and grieve and say goodbye
I feel your pain. 💕 I did the same with a woman 5 years ago. I still think she was the love of my life and walking away was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Finally post pandemic relief. love The National; love this song. What a great title for a song:Tropic Morning News. Matt's voice always soothing and reassuring, and the bands musical styling are on point. Since Boxer I have yet to be disappointed in The National and all they have offered this past decade.
Love it. As I get older (into my mid 30's now) it's comforting to know that the bands who were so crucial during my development are still making great music. Not every band can do it. Thanks guys.

Sorry guys, I know how sensitive fans can be, but this is the best song by these guys ever. It´s one of those songs, you hear, you listen to and the world stops. For a few minutes there´s only the song and your feelings and nothing else.
