  • 🌎 LG WASHER WON’T DRAIN - OE ERROR - DIY and SAVE $$$ ✨
This Video shows how to easily replace the LG drain pump.
A bad pump will give you an OE error and sometimes keep the door from unlocking.
Its good to check the coin trap part of the drain that is behind the little door on the lower left front of the washer. You might find a missing sock there. Its more common that the pump’s impellor has broken free of the motor shaft and the pump needs to be replaced. The pumps are less than $25.00 at the link shown below.

Thanks for the help. After seeing what it took to replace the drain pump, it was definitely easier and WAY less expensive than calling a company that would probably give the the whole, "your control panel is possibly bad and we recommend you change it" routine. Seems like most of the companies around here these days are just interested in the up sale. Your video we spot on. My model was a little different in how the pump was attached but pretty easy to figure out. Everything else was spot on. $28 for the part on Amazon and about an hour or so of actual work time and it's up and running again. Appreciate the solid help!

Nice job, man. Great job on step by step explanation. Will help me with my repair soon.
Update: I ordered the drain pump from Amazon and installed it with a breeze with this video and took me about 45 minutes or so. Hardest job was reinstalling the door gasket in the groove. Inch by inch did it till my fingers started to hurt but finished it. 2 Tips. 1) Before removing the gasket, marker top of the gasket along with top of the steel drum with a marker, to realign when installing back. 2) Installing gasket needs 2 person, one to install gasket in groove and second to hold it in place and move further till done. This video was a boon as could not have saved my Washer withou the video for sure. Thanks again 👍.

Big thanks Scott and the others who contributed input in these comments. I decided to lay mine down on its side to get to the pump. It was very straightforward once I got assistance with laying it down.
One way to ensure that the pump is the culprit is to spin the blades on the pump after you remove it. If it spins easily and you do NOT feel the magnetic resistance, you know it is bad. Compare it to a new pump with fresh magnets & windings in the motor and you will feel the difference. Also- be sure to clean out all hoses in the process or old clogs may prematurely burn out the new pump! Tip: write the replacement date on the pump so you can see how long it lasts. DIY!

Hey, I probably won't get a reply but it's worth trying. Since we'd be getting to the drain pump from underneath the machine, is it only the screws, hoses (how many?), and electrical connecters of the pump that we'll have to disconnect?

Hey Scott, I have the Kenmore version and the drain pump has gone out 3 times over the last 8 years. My installation version takes less than 10 minutes with easy access through the bottom of the washer. I lay washer on its side and work through the opening at the bottom. Very quick and easy replacement. Thanks for taking the time to help the DIY community.

    Thanks, Scott!
I have had these for over a year and work as a Metalizer.
I wash my clothes in this--regrettably--and am now paying for it becuz we ALSO washed rugs in it and the 'OE' CODE came up.
This REALLY helped out with that. Luckily it was not a burned-out motor---but, a horribly clogged rubber hose that is now clear.
    Great vid.

Thanks Scott. I struggled to change mine via the bottom access panel. After an hour I decided to strip it down so removed the 2 rear top screws. Annoyingly the top wouldn't budge so I returned to the small bottom access hole. I was only when I'd completed the pump swap that I gave the machine a shove and the flippin' top slid off backwards. Great video, thanks.

Thank you for posting this step by step. I have owned this washer for over 8 years and never even seen that filter. So after 8 years of serving me and my family of 5 without ever cleaning that filter if I have to change this drain pump then that’s ok with me. Great video just used it perfectly. I would add that before you put the new engine in, pour warm water through the return hose into a bucket to clean out the junk in there. It gets nasty and this is your only chance to clean it. also there is a tiny hose directly under (and attatched to the) tub door seal that you should remove and clean. The hole from it is tiny and dollars to donuts it’s totally clogged. Here are only two clamps so really simple to disconnect. Take the extra time to fish the junk out. So small that’s it pretty much a design flaw.

Thanks, this worked great for my LG washer. I have a slightly different model, but it was close enough to work. Having another set of hands hold the boot spring-wire in definitely helped to get it back on there. Feels good to save money and fix it!

Your video just saved my entire world! My dog got sprayed by a skunk and the family let him in. I’ve been struggling to rid out house of the smell and washed a rug (that I’ve washed a hundred times!). This time the rug backing pulverized and looked like someone dumped a whole box of kitty litter in it! It was full of water and I thought for sure TRASH! With 7 kids I’d literally die without a washer! With your video I was able to tear it down and find the hose to the pump was stuffed FULL of rug backing paste!!! Thank you!!!!!

You can try grabbing the head of the screw with vice grips to get it to start turning to the left.

How do you know which wire goes on which terminal? I connected exactly like it was before (brown on top or left). I noticed that most videos however had that backwards. I replaced the pump will little problem but now it's leaking out the bottom and I'm trying to troubleshoot why. So wondering if this new model might have terminals lined up differently from the old one.

    • @ScottTheFixItGuyChannel
      @ScottTheFixItGuyChannel  2 роки тому +1

You can put the wires either way. No polarity issue👍

Never mind. I found the L and N label on both the old and new pumps and yes, they were reversed. I should have looked instead of just doing what was done before.

    • @pfuller5301

So even though they are reversed, the pump should still work? What should I check next then? I checked all the hoses and I can see any cracks.

Hey, I probably won't get a reply but it's worth trying. Was your machine not spinning as well during a wash or just not draining? Were there specific wash settings that it would work on but others where it wouldn't? I wonder why the pump replacement fixed it for others but not for you.

Had a question, drain filter had a bunch of stuff in it, emptied and still got the error. Completely took apart and checked main drain hoses and reconnected and still got message. I did notice that the mini drain hose was completely compacted with sand, cleared it and still got error message. Stuck my finger insides to check it the little propellor in the drain pump was running and it is but it does not drain the water. Does this mean I need a new drain pump? Didn’t think I needed one if that little propeller was spinning. Got an idea? Thanks

Sorry if this is a repeat of the video, I'm a cut and paste kind of gal.
I 'fixed' my LG front loading washer which was stuck on rinse and wouldn't drain and move on to spin cycle. Unplug the washer. On this particular washer there is a small panel on the front lower left. You have to pop it open with a butter knife. Inside is a small black plastic plug on the left and what looks like a larger black plastic dial on the right. These are filters that probably need to be dealt with. Be prepared with towels and a bucket or large bowl since the washer is full of water.
First the small black plug and pull it out gently. It is attached to a flexible tube. Point it a your bowl or bucket, remove the black cap and let the water drain. There will probably be some sand or guck. This is slow, so once it drains clear you can plug it back up, push back in place and deal with the filter on the right. But you might want to the water in the washer come out this slow way because when you begin to remove the filter on the right side the water in the washer will gush out. It's much easier to deal with if your washer is on a pedestal with a drawer underneath so you can position a bowl to catch the water. So remove the filter on the right side. In my case it was clogged with two bobby pins, a whole cloth napkin (that I hadn't seen in years) and a whole lot of lint. Put it back together. That did the trick for me.
Side note: another fix - if LG washer shows error code LE - unplug, wait 90 seconds. Rotate drum manually to left 4 times then manually to the right 4 times. Plug back in. This resets something and has worked for dozens of people.

Big ups for the great video. Bought a 28 dollar part instead of a new washer. One thing I found is that it is next to impossible to put the band clamp that holds the door seal (bellows) in place on by yourself (good luck the beautiful and talented wife was around to help me). You need a second set of hands to get that thing back on. Thanks a bunch for the super helpful video.

The only note I would add, is check to make sure that the trap down on the bottom left is clean before you go ordering a new pump. Thanks to this video. I realized there was a little catch trap down there. The washer was used so I didn’t ever see an owners manual to tell me that. Thank you for the video.

My LG washer dryer combo model number WM3431HWD. I’m not sure if it’s the same as the one you fixed but it looks the same. The OE light was blinking and the machine would not drain water. This is the first time this has happened. I don’t know how to fix it but I am trying to figure it out. I took pictures of what I took apart. My drain is on the left lower side. Can you give me a way to contact you and maybe I could figure this out? Your video was very helpful but I have never fixed any appliance. This is new for me. Thank you.

If you can gear the pump whining but not draining the tub U can lift and tilt the older LG washers backwards "while full" against the wall and agitate the drain hoses underneath the washer tub this will help the drain water reach the drainpump and you are back in business. BE SURE TO WEDGE SOMETHING UNDER THE WASHER WHILE YOU WORK. ALSO SHOPVAC IS PRICELESS FOR THIS JOB. THX

I replaced the filter with a new OEM one. As soon as I hit start on the machine, it still buzzes/vibrates by filter area (just like it did before). I still get the OE code. What's the next thing to try? I will mention this....the machine got a funny smell right before the OE came on the first time.
