    My fellow Michigander!! Over this last week I have learned a hard lesson about how cold it gets out in the country, even in my garage! This first year I have come to love my rabbitry. From my does, to my bucks, to all the little kits. I love them all and am constantly thinking about how/what I can do better. Your course and videos have been instrumental. You are an amazing teacher.
    Also though, I love those red zealands!! This weekend I just got beautiful gold palominos! If you ever sell the red zealand kits, I would love to add a couple to my herd! Thank you, Bobby, for showing us novices how to do this!

    Your pale belly red may be an otter (At gene) base + ee. Your new red looks like a self (aa so a gene from both parents). That can very well be the reason for looking paler, the other possibility is breeding dilute to dilute. That from what i hear will also fade the color. So breed dilute to carrier or carrier to carrier to get deeper/darker dilute colors.

    Lol lots of great info that pertains to having any outdoor animals, homesteading in general. The Gloves are fabulous. My hubbys a lobster fisherman here in NB Canada, they're a game changer really. Haha yes dealing with water in the winters always a battle 😅 You certainly need to have a mind that loves a little challenge and likes to constantly tweak things to like this lifestyle 😊 I cant imagine anything else anymore though. Love all your great videos. You've been my go to for the rabbits, very thorough. Thank you!!

    I made a gravity waterer from a stain less steel beer keg that supplys 4 cages. Stack 2 high and close together i blui t a insulated box to house water lines and put rabbit nippels out the side with a 60 watt bulb at bottom. And a cheap plug in. Thermostat towards top o f box with keg sittings no top ..so far 28 degrees and it working i know better when it gets below ,zero. Well.only cost about $ 4 per month.

    Why do they call them blues when they look gray? Is it because of the color of their eyes and not their coat?

    • @freerein4ever641
      @freerein4ever641 7 місяців тому +4

      Many animals are referred to as “blue” that are gray. Such as: blue roan horses, blue heeler dogs, Russian blue cats... no the fur is not blue. But because there are different shades of grey or dark to light, the term blue helps to differentiate between fur types. A blue rabbit is going to be a very soft grey color. If you google “blue tabby cat” and then google grey or brown tabby you will see the difference. With rabbits it’s about the same.

    how do you fight coccidiosis?

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  7 місяців тому +1

      Best way to fight coccidiosis is to run a caged hutch system, this breaks the lifecycle of coccidiosis
      and if you do have open ground, try not to let Rabbits share that open ground area.

      Some big litters will empty water. Try strapping down another bungee for strength or adding a supplement water bottle

    Hi ! Sorry for asking this question here but you've been talking about litter size.
    I have 2 females and 1 male, it's my first year. I only had 4 kits litters (except the very first one that was 6 kits)
    Should I change females ? is that just the odds ? Is there anything I should do to have more kits ?
    Thanks!
    Love from Ontario, Canada !

    • @uslanja
      @uslanja 7 місяців тому

      We are in Ontario as well, Niagara Region. We have 2 does and one buck and like you we pretty much get 4 kits per litter from both does. We had 6 kits once, but only once. We are wondering if we should replace them.

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  7 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for asking. There’s a few things you can try to improve your litter sizes.
      Keep your bucks cool and comfortable so they stay fertile. Regular exposure to temperatures over 90 F, as well as -110 F without relief, can cause small litters or no litters. Some first time litters are small but they will increase in time. When breeding, once you’ve inspected your dough, and you know she’s ready to breed (swollen red vent)keep your doe in your Bucks cage for 30 minutes even after the fall offs monitor the breeding to make sure there’s no fighting. 10 hours later re-breed again, this is when the egg follicles are rupturing, and it’s a terrific time to fertilize them. If you can get your doe to lift, she may growl, and want nothing to do with the buck, so remove her immediately if that’s the case. Best of luck!

    • @karlfowler3742
      @karlfowler3742 7 місяців тому +1

      Litter sizes will vary. Each Rabbit will perform differently. We have two does that are great mothers but consistently have small litters. We use them as foster moms for Does with Giant litters and it has worked for us. They consistently have around 3 or 4 and we breed them at the same time as does we're unsure of or consistently have large litters. If the babies are born around the same time you can take babies from the large litters and foster them with the other doe. I think 6 babies is the perfect number for good grow outs. We're breeding for ARBA standards not quantity.
