One of the best riffs in metal history. Absolutely breathtaking and nearly impossible to top. What a luck that I grew up with this beast of pure power and magic.
this is epic. on the musical side of things, diamond head were way ahead of their time. the vocals are just like vocals were back in the late 70s and 80s. screaming and grittier vocals didn't become normal before around 85 - 86 or so.
This is a tune! I remember seeing Diamond Head back in the '80s, they introduced me to a wider scope of music. This tune in particular, along with Canterbury, Borrowed Time, Don't You Ever Leave Me etc. I personally think they should have been massive, they were that good. But if I recall correctly, they were managed by either Sean or Brian's mother, which probably sealed their downfall unfortunately. Brian's guitar technique was breathtaking live, and the passion in Sean's voice was awesome.
metallica's garage inc was primarily a cover album.. i strongly urge you to find out the original artists of those songs and give them the attention and respect they deserve.
diamond head like...how are they not the biggest band in the world. without them there would be no metallica or megadeth, and without metallica there wouldnt be half the bands we have today diamond head deserve much more credit and appreciation than they get i met this line up of the band, and they are the nicest fuckin guys ever!
I have to say that this is just a brilliant track, and despite how many times I have heard Metallica sing it live, I have only ever seen Diamond Head perform it live once...and it was far superior Thanks to Metallica we have Diamond Head, but equally, thanks to Diamond Head we have Metallica Im going to see them next week, they're supporting (of all people) Europe in England...haha
They were influenced by Sabbath, however speed metal greats Megadeth, metallica and slayer have all said that diamond head was the first in that genre. However the first band to use the double bass technique for speed metal was Anvil. But I agree they are a lot slower than most speed bands. But even metal church and slayer eventually slowed a little, but became more technical.
And for whomsoever it may consern, Sean Harris was no longer with Diamond Head as of 2005 (the date at which this clip was recorded). Nick Tart was singing for Diamond Head, and according to their website, he still is. This is technically a "new" singer (new as in "he's been with them for two years" new). Check the BNR Metal websites or Diamond Head's official site if you don't believe me.
Really? Which gig? I saw the two of them play in London at the Astoria- fantastic gig, Diamond Head were amazing. I find the singer a little flat in this clip, but the song is still every bit as powerful today as it was all those years ago.
i could be wrong..im pretty sure every song on metallica's garage inc album was a cover song.. they got sabbath, skynard, motorhead, misfits, diamond head and bob segar. i own the album but i dont have the book that comes with the disk anymore..so i could be wrong.
i give you that but when its a band as great as metallica just covering all these great songs it doens't make it their best album, their own stuff is amazing
well, Diamond Head have shown alot of appreciation for the Metallica covers in recent interviews. Even crediting them from saving them from obscurity. Although yeah, the bands you listed are far superior bands to Metallica;-)
Why do people think this is a metallica song? I know they perform it live alot, but the only album it's even on is their cover album.
Exactly. Usually people cover songs not to surpass the original song's quality, but as a tribute to the band they love.
One of the best riffs in metal history. Absolutely breathtaking and nearly impossible to top. What a luck that I grew up with this beast of pure power and magic.
one of the most underrated bands ever they rock
this is epic. on the musical side of things, diamond head were way ahead of their time. the vocals are just like vocals were back in the late 70s and 80s. screaming and grittier vocals didn't become normal before around 85 - 86 or so.
i'm so excited! my band gets to open for them in august! sweet!
Diamond Head was one of the great speed metal bands, along with Anvil,Metal Church,Exodus,Anthrax, and Wrathchild.
This rocks !
One of the best metal songs.
they are one of the originals for all you young bucks!!!!!!
This was the first song i ever learned on guitar, heaviest riff ever.
This is a tune! I remember seeing Diamond Head back in the '80s, they introduced me to a wider scope of music. This tune in particular, along with Canterbury, Borrowed Time, Don't You Ever Leave Me etc.

Brian's guitar technique was breathtaking live, and the passion in Sean's voice was awesome.
this is what metal was founded on, one of the greatest bands of all time
Blast from the past. I still have this on cassette. Behold the beginning from '86
I'm happy simply because this video exists. Pure bliss.
The Fact That They Came Up With this song makes them BADASS.
Great song, great gig, great first LP. Diamond Head is, btw, named after a Hawaiian volcano...; -)
metallica's garage inc was primarily a cover album.. i strongly urge you to find out the original artists of those songs and give them the attention and respect they deserve.
this song is a legend...... every famous metalhead has played this song...
A band ahead of their time
The solo is freaking amazing!
And that guitar solo is excellent; Brian, you haven't lost it.
I'm not evil, but I fuckin love it! : D
I wish I could've been alive back then...
I missed the 80's by about 14 years :(
Dude it's not all about the words listen to those kick-ass Drums.
This is one of THE best hard rock tunes ever written. Enjoy all the versions--appreciate the differences. It's art! Best of luck to all of you! Ger
i love the solo
this is my first time seeing Diamond Head, i have a mixed CD
Man, the main riff is such a mean riff. Badass.
the drummer is intense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
diamond head rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
diamond head like...how are they not the biggest band in the world. without them there would be no metallica or megadeth, and without metallica there wouldnt be half the bands we have today
diamond head deserve much more credit and appreciation than they get
i met this line up of the band, and they are the nicest fuckin guys ever!
diamond head is often underestimated
This is a great vid, thanks for posting. The whole thing is great and the last minute of it is as pure as it gets in rock and roll.
I have to say that this is just a brilliant track, and despite how many times I have heard Metallica sing it live, I have only ever seen Diamond Head perform it live once...and it was far superior Thanks to Metallica we have Diamond Head, but equally, thanks to Diamond Head we have Metallica
Im going to see them next week, they're supporting (of all people) Europe in England...haha
is this the old singer? ive seen diamond head 3-4 times now they are great. they still play gigs aswell! yay! they were great at stealth at nottingham
great performance..................love it
the solo is amazing
Absolutely superb group! Seen them live a few times in the 80s when i was at wolves poly
It a great band and a class speed song.
Just great!
I never seen that band and never listened to it
i saw them when they supported megadeth, fucking amazing band!!
unbelievable song. doesn't look like many people were there but it sure looks like one hell of a good time. wish i was there=D
You rock my world!
Very good song! Great guitar sound
That guitar solo was fucking perfect!
up-voted for the most obscure list of greats ever
Man, glad I got the chance a year ago. You all did a great show in The Netherlands. Great vocals Sean +10!!!
\m/ Your the Prince \m/
this is fuckin great. can you believe how excellent that solo is!?!
This band is really underrated. It´s good that more popular bands like Megadeth and Metallica are aknowledging them.
Fucking epitome of a metal riff.....has been, is and always will be one of my favourite records.
You were referring to the songs "painkiller" by Judas Pries, and "Electric Funeral" by Black Sabbath?
In that case, Yes, I totally agree!
Diamond Head was very Underated they were way better than most of the NWOBHM Bands that came out in the 1980's
saw them live on thursday. fricken amazing :)
Legendary song.
they did an awesome cover! and I'm a huge 'Tallica fan, but no one does it better than Diamond Head
se re parece!!! q buenoooo esta espectacular!!!!
This live version kicks thorough ass
Real metal!!!!!!!!!!
coming to York to play!!! get down youtubers!

Love the vocalist!
Kick ass song!

It was a typo, just like the one on your comment, I'm aware of the name of the song thank you
No you are completely right!
OOoohhh yeah!! Diamond Head proceeds Metallica. This iscolossal!
he looks like Mac Gyver xD I love this evil song \m/
Really? Which gig? I saw the two of them play in London at the Astoria- fantastic gig, Diamond Head were amazing. I find the singer a little flat in this clip, but the song is still every bit as powerful today as it was all those years ago.
i loove this song since i heard it in brutal legend
Awesome
he can sing
GOOD!!
Even if his voice sucks, please respect these dudes, if it wasnt for these there prob wont even be a Metallica.
a classic!
yeah i know, I played mars in band and it's one of my favorite classical pieces
actually they covered it way back in garage days. garage inc was just a rerelease of garage days with a new album of covers
Diamond Head, Anvil, and Exodus all fucking great bands \m/
That's exactly what must've been going through their minds when they wrote it!
"Let's write it so James Hetfield can sing it!"
good version ! try enjoying the music!
i could be wrong..im pretty sure every song on metallica's garage inc album was a cover song.. they got sabbath, skynard, motorhead, misfits, diamond head and bob segar. i own the album but i dont have the book that comes with the disk anymore..so i could be wrong.
totally right
the diamond head version is actually in 4/4. If you listen to mars versus this you will notice the rhythm is different.
Last time I saw these guys live there were a group of teenage metallica fans shouting "Fuck yeah, some metallica!"
After having heard Hetfield sing this song for 2 times in live performances, earing these vocals is making me cry and laugh at the same time :/
Tatler f'in rocks! Awesome solo!
WORD!!!
dis gonna be on gh metallica i just got letter wit songlist :) SO STOKED!!!!!!
thats king diamond my friend =P
@Phillboger dude... this song is from Diamond Head, and Metallica just covered it. And they play it at live shows...

My band, Death Awaits, actually gets to share a stage with these guys AND Kill Devil Hill! It's gonna be the best night of all time!
Is This THE Diamond Head?
DIAMOND HEAD!!!!!!!1
All I can say is,..Brian Tatler! STILL THE RIFF MASTER!!!
king diamond is the singer for mercyful fate.
i give you that but when its a band as great as metallica just covering all these great songs it doens't make it their best album, their own stuff is amazing
