    This is really a great tips! I also wanted to know how much population must have in tier 1, before upgrading tier 2 and so on. That would be a great help. And the pattern on what to build every each time.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  Рік тому

      Happy to help! Upgrading the Town Center to tier 2 requires 30 population, to tier 3 requires 150 population and to Tier 4 requires 300 population.
      Not sure what you mean by pattern - basically population growth is the slowest factor, all other requirements are way easier to achieve! And for city planning I am going with the pattern shown in the video right away - it works through all tiers ;)

    The "latest compact plan" (untested) doesn't actually work because the outside rows of houses don't have more than 85% desirability as needed.
    We can see in the "less compact" plans, that you have statues and/or water outside the outer layer of houses to improve their desirability to the 85% minimum.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  Рік тому +1

      Yes, the desirability is a struggle, but it's manageable! Few buildings in the inside must be swapped out. I mean 2x7 houses at both sides and that's it - no more housing in the middle section, that's how it's to achieve 85%+ ;)

  • @philipsolo_5010

    Great planning, I have done similar and then changed to follow yours more closely but it would help on your diagram if you labelled what the service buildings are with names rather than just size of plot as the video glimpses are harder to make out and remember. Also I've done this and manged to get to Level 3 Town Hall, but still cannot get desirability high enough to convert homesteads into large houses (65%) what decorations (yellow squares) must be placed in this plan layout to achieve that. I've added theatre and large park, two medium parks, shrine and small gardens but still not turning the % high enough. I think my main mistake is that I've include my Town Hall in the layout but I noted now that you placed it somewhere else..

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  Рік тому

      Thank you! Hmm, lemme see what can I do to update the layout plan!
      So for decorations I'm going with the biggest you have available! Shrines and gardens must be upgraded, the last Tier statues ar the only ones that are working without upgrades (for now). This is the reason why I was advising not to put anything else in the middle - so houses are just 7x2 at both sides, this gives you enough space for the decorations. Once reached max tear and you can switch to statues - I would advise to do so. The bigger statues have bigger coverage and if you can put one big one, it will be more efficient that smaller decorations but two ;)

    Just wondering, if you put trees decoration on the empty spaces will that helps with water?

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  Рік тому

      Hmm..this should be tested, but I have doubts :D Developers came out and already said that decorative trees are NOT working/part of regular trees and their mechanics (about the woodcutting and growing part). I don't think they would add them to water logic.
      Also I remember I've tested the groundwater coverage relationship with trees (orchid) and it was hard to draw any conclusions - other than everything is degrading and nothing can improve it besides cow fodder.
      And even then I had inconsistence results. Dunno if they have made any major changes regarding that or will they every. But I like the way you are thinking here ;) Game could put all the deep and interesting mechanics in place - would love to see it some day :)

    We build pretty much the same way, ugly but effective, especially since villager AI doesn´t exist. They do basics but fail to implement max carriage capacity, choosing homes near to their worksite, restocking their homes 3 times a season when working in a distant mine and much much more. Especially carrying one wood for miles when the villager could have chosen 10 in the stockyard just next to him. To minimize villager idiocy it´s necessary to build tight in order to be effective when the city gets large.
    The 2x2 house rows with stuff in the middle and no roads is a must on hard maps, you can opt for roads later on, sometimes I skip them all together and only build them to reach mines etc.
    The game needs a basic tutorial on how to start, it´s actually best done on the hardest map possible. I don´t make videos, you do :) .... Your city plan is right but a bit overwhelming for those entering the game as newbies. Perhaps a 15 minute video with right to the point explanations while skipping time, would save me from answering so many questions on Steam :).

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  Рік тому

      I'm wondering about the 2x2 house rows comment - you think about middle of the living block or scattered outside the town? Wanted just to fully understand the idea behind it.
      We need improved AI for townsfolk for sure! Otherwise that limits the town size, split city planning, awesome layouts, etc. :/
      Thank you for the suggestion and comment - really great idea! ;)

    • @AurioDK
      @AurioDK Рік тому +1

      @@MLMariss If possible I do the 2x 2 house rows with the market in the middle dictating the radius of the houses. I do the 2x 2 everywhere and if possible so they form a square with industry in the middle.
      The town center is alone only adjacent to root cellars, 2 warehouses with the most important goods, trade center, a single stockyard ... all surrounded by a wall with towers that can reach all sides. You can add more storage to this area as the city grows, that requires expanding the walls.
      I will draw it up when I get home, working now.
