SONY FX6 & SMALLRIG CAGE - A Freelancers Dream Combo

Thank you very much for this, beautifully presented and makes me excited to rig my newly acquired FX6. Subscribed!
Thank you so much for the kind comment, I really appreciate it. I know for a fact you'll like the cage 👌🏾
I love your content and how you explain things! I placed for the Burano 2 weeks ago. Can't wait to get it. I believe I'm going to sell my Komodo and Raptor and just dedicate my gear to the Sony Ecosystem. I still love my Nikon Z9 for photography, though. Thanks again for sharing. Smallrig is awesome!
Awwww you're so lucky (well hard work)! I don't usually say this on material goods but congrats man. I thought the camera would be heavy and unwieldy but it's the complete opposite. Nicely balanced and steady with amazing features.
I was meant to pick up my Komodo in the 29th but I decided not to as Sony is hitting almost every point.
Again congrats man and thank you for your nice comment.
Mate... You've saved me with this video! This is exactly what I was looking for - I agree with you, Tilta force you into a system that makes you spend loads of money on other parts of their equipment after buying just one piece... which is pricey! E.g if you buy the tilta V lock, in the end you have to buy to the tilta top cage because it secures the v lock mount. Some may argue it's not a necessity but it is pretty wobbly without it. I love with this one that you can slide the V mount up and down because I do A LOT of gimbal work. Thanks for the great video man! I'll definitely be buying
Hi mate, I'm so glad it was helpful. Tilta looks amazing but it is too fiddly and I agree...they force you into their system. I understand it from a business perspective but we all know that multiple brands equipment are required to have a fully functioning rig.
It's ok if you shoot handheld all the time I guess but things definitely need to be adaptable. I also agree with you about the c-mount sliding it's so invaluable.
You could mount a zoom f3 cold shoe on the side plate to run audio. Hope they nail the flaws of the design on the mark 2 this video made the small rig grow on me I threw the tilta one in the trash went bright tangerine which is great but pricy and does not have threads on side plate can’t understand why I feel this is second best hands down for color price mount points and v mount sexiness
Nitze stinger handle with threads is prolly my new fav top handle.
Love it! I really want an FX6....
Thanks Alex. I really want an FX3 😅
@@Altcine Dream combo!!
Tilta has a Type II battery plate that mounts to the rods instead of bolted to the plate.
I think small rig's cage have more creativity and user-friendly
But some of Korean video shooters don't like it and I wonder why
THX 4 da nice video
Oh really..Korean! That's interesting. I agree with you and think smallrig is a lot more user friendly and they work with all sorts of other brands.
Ps, thank you for the comment
Excellent thank you! Kondor Blue heading to eBay 😊
😁🙌🏾🙌🏾 nice one.
I’m gonna buy this now because of you 🙏🏾 thank you! Also what top handle do you have at the end for run and gun? (10:32)
Hey Emmanuel, I'm glad you like it, it's such a functional cage. The handle can be purchased here

@@Altcine thanks bro!
Thank you very much for this movie. can you send a link for the rosette that you recommended to put instead the original place, so that the camera does not break?
Thank you. I use this one but I may swap it for one that hangs lower/ angled type.

So so pretty bro. I need to get me one of those fx6s soon...
Yeah awesome cams man
@@Altcine for some reason the cages for the fx6 are some of the coolest ive seen. Tilta or smallrig both are awesome.
The Tilta looks cool but you have to go all in. Definitely prefer the Smallrig. Just bought a dovetail, cheeseplate and rail system for the cam that's got the Tilta plate so it'll be a heavy rig 😅
@@Altcine smallrig is always the better deal
Absolutely 🙌🏾
whats that diagonal view finder @1:40??!! I need one!! Please help me find one!
Fastest I’ve ever clicked on a notification! 😅
Thank you 😃🙌🏾
Awesome video! Thank you for sharing :) I have been looking at the Tilta cage to be able to mount the FX6 vertically. But it looks like the Smallrig cage could solve this. If I may ask: Would you feel safe placing the side plate at the front position and mount it vertically, and would it balance well?
Thank you. Yeah I would have ho problem with that configuration. It's so well designed and sturdy that front of back both feel solid.
Then it's everything I need. Ordering it now @@Altcine 🥳
@@user-ql8tu4hn7v awesome. I am 100% sure you will love this 👌🏾
I can't believe more people don't talk about this cage, forget the affordable price.... it's just a well thought out cage.
It would be nice to have powered V-mount plate with extra D-TAP, cause most of small batteries have only one..
Yeah I hear that but then we have to consider the price. This a lot more affordable than any other fx6 system but quality is top notch.
It's just good we have a solid affordable option
gracias!!! tengo sólo una duda. que lente es el del cierre? gracias
denuevo
Hi, thank you. Can you explain that please...I don't understand the lens question.
Very interesting top handle what's the model?
It's a strange one but I wanted one that was similar D-shape to the original. It also allows me to use double screws and remove it for audio handle.
I did replace the 2 screws for DJI screws so I can do it without tools.

Brilliant. Do you have a link for the rail adapter for the front? Thanks!
Thanks man. The rod rail or rosette?
@@Altcine Link to the rod rail adapter pls
@@JensEser it's this one. You will need some slightly longer 1 4/20 screws

@@Altcine Thx. It's says in the description that it comes with the ¼-20mm screws. Should work then, right?
Do you have a link on where I can buy that 15mm rod adapter? Thanks
Hi, yes it's made by smallrig.

Nice rig... but let's talk about this bicycle :D
Thank you 😁 it'll be in my next video about Blackmagic and also in the film
Hey there! I was wondering if this cage set up would be ever be compatible putting it on a Tilta Lightweight Shoulder Rig system? Also is there a way to rig the 15mm rods (for example) that goes all the way underneath your cam than it being sticking out, or leveled with your camera's body? Sorry, I couldn't find a video that mixes small rig cage and shoulder rig by tilta. Thanks! :)
Hey. The cage has mount holes on the bottom plate so you could attach a base plate or cheeseplate etc.
Obviously that will make it higher and might cause issues for some follow focus but it's possible.
@@Altcine true OR just use the baseplate directly instead maybe? so that we won't worry on follow focus issues.
@@enri.filmsss you can but then you can't use the side part of the cage as that is secured to the top and bottom plate.
@@Altcine oh yeah i forgot about THAT part 😭
@@enri.filmsss tbh I don't think the bottom part of the cage is the problem....it's how far up the lens sits on the FX6 body.
Because of the rectangular shape, the lens is high.
Bro you got it too look so clean when I shoot raw with the eos m its glitchy and video looks like crap
You got any samples online?
@@Altcine I had one just front of my house but I had this little purple glitchy in it and give it another throw
@@mxdst14k29 that's called a pink frame. It means that camera was overloaded whilst recording. Drop your bitrate or maybe the scene was over exposed.
Many ways to overcome this but you're better off joining the Facebook group
@@Altcine for sure just joined last night when I seen you guys were making the bmcc box camera!
@@Altcine for sure just joined last night when I seen you guys were making the bmcc box camera!
Audio is better :P
I'm getting there 😅
@@AltcineGuess you followed my advice :)
💯
I know all of these brands love sticking their logos everywhere to help promote, I get it... but I swear I feel like I'm walking around with an advertisement for tilta or smallrig or whatever it is.. I've starting taking black paint pens and just painting that shit out any black accessory gear.. lol
Haha yeah man, some of them go crazy with the text. I black out a lot of stuff too.
Also blacked out the white Sony logo right above lens on my a7iv and it looks great like that. Same goes for those damn bowens mount accessory. I feel like the biga$$ logos are forcing you to be an unofficial rep for the company. It's like, hey I'm just showing up to do work, not shill your products. I mean, I'll leave their huge logos on if they give them to me for free perhaps. haha Annoying @@Altcine
Haha yeah. I guess it's the same with anything though...trainers, cars etc.
On the M-Lite we kept the branding super minimal. Even IMCE is written underneath so you can't see it unless you look for it.
