For me, silly men are like catnip. Have to have them in my life. Meditation and comedy go hand in hand. You must stay in the NOW, and frequently laugh like crazy, to be happy. I didn't expect much from an 89-second video starring two big names. But this was delightful! Such gentle humor. I'm ancient and used to enjoy the invective standup comedy of Don Rickles, Sheldon Leonard and the like. In my dotage and with my ego identified and *somewhat* reined in, I much prefer this. Judging by Eckhart's reaction as Jim exits the spotlight @ 0:53 I'd say the subject himself found the impersonation quite entertaining. 💖
I may be misinterpreting your last statement, but this seems to be a misinterpretation of what "ego" is. I see no evidence of ego in Eckhart finding this amusing. Ego is the identification as the person. The common misconception is that "no ego" means no personality. The person/personality is still there and can still find things such as this entertaining, but there is no consciousness in the person who is identifying itself as that person--instead the consciousness (of an enlightened one) experiences itself as the One consciousness of the Universe and the person is but a mere appearance on its surface. As the enlightened sage, Raman Maharshi, says: "Play in the world, o hero, as if in love with it. Seeming to have enthusiasm and delight, seeming to have excitement and aversion, yet without attachment. Released from all bonds of attachment and with equanimity of mind, acting outwardly in all situations in accordance with the part you have assumed, play as you please, o hero, in the world." In other words, on the outside you may play and may even find things amusing, but inwardly you would find no identification with the person (ego) nor attachments to anything. On the level of a person who has realized enlightenment, all dysfunctional characteristics will have been purified, and most emotions as well, but again this is not a blank, stoic state. There is still joy, bliss, love, empathy, and playfulness. Wouldn't it be dreadful if the final state/destiny of all (enlightenment) were a merely blank, stoic state of non-playfulness? It's of course a play on the NASA phrase from long ago and I intended it to mean that instead of soaring supremely through the sky in Eckhart, the human Ego has become grounded and harmless. I fully agree with your assertion that there's little evidence of Ego in Eckhart and in fact he's an exemplar of how enjoyable the human experience can be when the Ego is initially recognized and subsequently dealt with in a gentle way. I believe that like Mooji's monkey-mind, the Ego can be successfully managed through benign neglect; rather than condemning and fighting them, we can learn to identify these two disruptive and self-serving aspects of ourselves, and instead, simply relax and not feed them. I've seen Jim after a long break. For just a minute. And he made my day. BTW, him and Mr Tolle have weirdly similar aura. And I mean even without Jim silently impersonating Mr Eckhart Tolle ;) They both looked a little beyond most people look and found something interesting. That they can express without too much talking, yet pretty efficiently. You just look, you just listen and get the idea you can't really express, but it somehow works. You learn it in the most effortless way possible.
