Genius! In other words Jim Carrey took a back seat to his friend for the first week in order to work with him. As much as it is told that Jim was backing Jeff the whole way, and I agree with that. Not only did they make it funny, they turned it into a classic. It's one of those movies whereby no matter how many times I see it, it never feels stale or dated. Hell, Jeff got some of the biggest laughs when I went to see it in the theatre, especially the 'FOR GOD'S SAKE, JUST GIMME THE DAMN NUMBER!!!", and the hilarious toilet scene.
Jim Carrey (Farrelly Bros. inclusive) to Jeff towards end of this great clip: "They love what you're doing - keep it up." Oh if there were only a few million Jim Carrey's in the World. A few thousand of the Farrelly Bros. .
That’s so true. I’m glad Jim Carrey had that foresight. I always knew what was great about Harry was that the guy who played him was a dramatic actor. Jim is so over the top that he needed someone like Jeff who’s more mellow to balance him out.
I remember seeing ‘Dumb and Dumber’ in a theater in San Francisco while on vacation with my family. There were people actually rolling in the aisles of the theater. My Father’s reaction and discomfort were palpable, and he hated it. He wasn’t laughing, and sat there with his arms crossed, and my Mother and I were in hysterics. Everything was so ridiculous. But seeing his stern face while everyone in the theater was going crazy, made it even funnier.
Kinda crazy because Jeff was the established actor at this point. He had been in numerous big budget movies. Jim had only done Ace Ventura and in living color so he was the unproven commodity, not Jeff. That said, 93-96, no actor was hotter than Jim Carey. Ace, Dumb, Mask, Liar .... hit after hit after hit. Cable Guy was pretty bad but that only came after 3 hits in a row.
Hollywood means "sacred tree". It's got shit to do with the art of acting. It is about occult stuff, that you can't even begin to understand. google "Harrison Ford 666", "Johnny Depp 666", "Leo dicaprio 666", "Tarantino 666", "Emma Watson 666", "Jackie Chan 666", "Kevin Spacey 666", "Jonah Hill 666", "Jared Leto 666" and so on.
Jeff was an established actor, but back in 1994, he had sort of left Hollywood for a few years. Yes, he became a star in the 80's with Terms of Endearment and Purple Rose of Cairo, but in the late-80's, he and his family relocated back to his hometown of Michigan because he didn't want to raise is children in LA. He continued popping up in indie movies, but they were not widely seen, and Jeff had started a theatre company in Michigan

Very different comedic actors. Both great in their own way. So I think ‘top’ is not the correct word here. Jim would totally suck as Mrs. Doubtfire and Robin could never have made Ace Ventura a success.
One thing that always got me about acting, and the incredible talent these people have.....I sit down and watch a movie from start to finish, so in my head I'm thinking, ok by the time these guys get to the ending scenes, or maybe even half way through the movie they have really set into the character. And that's now it at all. The first week he's shooting scenes already in the middle of the movie. Meaning, these guys are going in and nailing these scenes right off the bat. I know there is prep, and table reads ect. But hearing which scenes they shot and when kinda just threw my head for a loop. I guess I never thought of it that way.
Coincidentally, I just put in the DVD and watched the movie today. I've been really sick for a few days and needed something to cheer me up, so thanks! It's close, but Harry has my favorite line - "You can't triple-stamp a double-stamp, Lloyd...You can't triple-stamp a double-stamp..."
And he always praises Jim Carrey when discussing this movie, what a show of respect.

I could not imagine the movie without Jeff Daniels. Good job Jim. Great team.
"Come om Cinderella, we gotta get you ready for the ball!"
Jim Carrey (Farrelly Bros. inclusive) to Jeff towards end of this great clip:
"They love what you're doing - keep it up."
Oh if there were only a few million Jim Carrey's in the World.
A few thousand of the Farrelly Bros.
.
the neon tuxedos and Harry hitting Lloyd with the cane was hilarious.
TIME OUT!!!
One of my favourite duos ever....
Nice ski's they yours?
Yes
Cool, both of em?
Everytime.
That’s so true. I’m glad Jim Carrey had that foresight. I always knew what was great about Harry was that the guy who played him was a dramatic actor. Jim is so over the top that he needed someone like Jeff who’s more mellow to balance him out.
One of the greatest and most underrated actors of our time.... And a fellow Michigan native.
I love these short videos
Jeff made that role as Jim made his role an couldn’t even imagine how this movie would of turned out without them both
I remember seeing ‘Dumb and Dumber’ in a theater in San Francisco while on vacation with my family.
This whole movie was golden. I appreciate your work.
Nice to know this story, it gives it just so much more character
This was real, thank you...
It's one of my favorite comedies you did great Jeff
My favorite movie of all time! Seen it easily 100’s of times, laugh hard every time!
" Loyd!!!! Petie didn't have a head...Harry i took care of it...."..lol
This dude is real. I appreciate that about him.
Just shows how hard it is being an actor. Even after you're successful, you get the audition, and you start shooting, they can still replace you
One of my favourite movies ever... carrey and Daniels..what a team 👏
This video is too fucking short... I want more
“don’t worry, I’m a limo driver!!”
Cool! Happy New Year!
The diner scene when Sea bass gets hit with the salt shaker, he comes over & Lloyd dobs him in, Sea bass asks Harry if he's going to eat his burger, the way he answers was comic genius, love that scene
@robert nolan ya, gonna eat that? That? No, yes, no, yes, no... well it crossed my mind... yeah 🤣😂😅😆😜
Reminds me of Bev Spangler
Mr French Tickler!!!!!
This channel is amazing. I am not in the film/TV industry. I just enjoy seeing these brilliant and talented people speak authentically. The interviews are top notch. Sam Jones is the real deal. You can tell he is in command of his craft.
This guy was the best man for any movie with a legendary guy, like Jim!!! Perfect duo!!
Was he chewing on a pen? Lol
"He's got an IQ of 8." xD
so then you must be sub-zero...lol
Except that an IQ of 8 would be basically a vegetable. The Dumb & Dumber IQ is probably more in the 50 - 60 range.
Retired Stein Koffman youre ignorant .. Sorry to break it to ya bud..
Lloyd, Lloyd!
We love what you’re doing; keep it up. 😎
Still one of the most iconic comedies!!!
why is it called off camera..... . . what type of sorcery is this that they filmed it without any type of camera?!
Maybe you should wear these extra gloves, my hands are starting to get sweaty.
Well thank god because it’s one of my all time favorites. Not to mention one of the most quotable comedies of all time
“It’s a buddy-buddy movie, so hire an actor.” 😁
Im with Dumb and Dumber ☞
...Just don't spill the salt!
Let's be real. The only comedian that could top Jim is Robin Williams.
Robin Williams was a hack.
That would've been a interesting movie if Robin Williams had been cast
Very different comedic actors. Both great in their own way.
So I think ‘top’ is not the correct word here. Jim would totally suck as Mrs. Doubtfire and Robin could never have made Ace Ventura a success.
@@raybellows9851 You are the only human who ever thought that. So edgy, you are!
I guess I never thought of it that way.
yes, most movies are shot totally out of order. You could shoot the second to last scene of the film on the first day.
Such grace and humility on Jeff's part.
God I'm not dumb enough
The cool thing about Dumb and Dumber was that Jim Carry didn't come across as 'the funnier dumber one'. They were both hilarious idiots, haha
Would love to watch the full interview!
