- NICOLA Sturgeon has hit back at ousted Nat Joanna Cherry after she blamed the ex-First Minister for the SNP massacre.
Giving her reaction after losing her Edinburgh South West at the count, Ms Cherry said: "The Conservative vote has collapsed and gone to Labour rather than SNP.

She was told by Dorothy Bain in 2022, the then Lord Advocate, that the Scottish parliament didn’t have the power to hold a second referendum . She knew it but still took it to the Supreme Court.
It’s worth pointing out that, in Scotland, the Lord Advocate is appointed by the governing party. Totally wrong .
She was hoping that the Scottish people would be in uproar over Westminster saying no. They weren’t.
It was the exact same scenario with the gender recognition bill. The vast majority of Scots had more important issues to deal with.
The NATS stupidly thought that the scottish people were more concerned about making it easier to change gender than they were about the NHS, child poverty and the cost of living. Totally out of touch.
If Westminster said the grass was green , the SNP would argue it was more a peach colour , just to distance themselves from south of the border.
John swinney said that if the SNP won this election it would allow dialogue to be opened with Westminster about Indy ref 2.
Based on that logic, it’s surely right to say that the Scottish people kicked independence into the rough last night. It’s dead and buried.

I'm English and don't live in Scotland (visited twice.) I think it is possible to make a case for Scottish independence, especially with all their natural resources.
There's also lots of clever people in Scotland (their schools are better) so I'm puzzled as to how the SNP managed to make a total clusterf**k of it

They say “independence” but really, in todays globalised world there is no such thing as a truly independent nation. What independence would do is just switch our partnerships and reliance to somewhere else, to a nation that isn’t joined to us and will care even less about us. Look at Ireland, controlled by the big players in the EU and the U.S. As soon as there is a “United ireland” this will become even more apparent.

It depends on how much of the Labour swing in Scotland is a protest vote. It is possible that it could swing back for the devolved government at Holyrood , although right now it looks unlikely and the SNP could be out.

The reason why so many in Scotland have turned against them is partly the failure to convince people how independence would be financed and how independence would look for Scotland.
