    Great video! I do all my filming in my backyard too, since I have a grilling channel. I love the footage I get out there in the natural light, but I have planes flying over, barking dogs, loud music from neighbors, etc. Like the viewer you featured, I want to pick up some of the sounds of nature like the birds, but I need to mute most of the other stuff. The sure Mv88 seems like a good fit, but I'll check out the other video mentioned towards the end. Thanks!

    This almost answered my question. Almost. I like recording nature and scenery and all that fun stuff. The onboard mic for my camera does a good enough job for that, though I have had to use an external mic a couple of times to cut out noise when I was in a quiet room. The built-in mic picked up a ton of room noise and even some of the camera’s own internal mechanics moving about. I used the mic from a gaming headset and placed it near the window to pick up noises of thunder outside and cut back the gain to get rid of the silent static.
    But now, I’ve recently found myself wanting to be outside as the storms roll in (see my latest video). I want to capture the thundering, the lightning, the approaching rain, all of it. And the rain is where I hit a wall at. I plan to buy a protective cover for the camera so it doesn’t turn into a soggy $600 paperweight. But if I were to use the built-in mic to record, I’m going to be picking up a ton of popping noise as raindrops hit the plastic rain shield. I want to get an external mic that I can have somewhere other than underneath the plastic so I can avoid the popping.
    I need help finding a mic that could pick up thunder in the distance and be able to withstand very high moisture levels or even direct impacts from the rain. Or if you can help me find a way to protect the mic from the rain while avoiding as much popping as possible, that would work too.

    Thanks for this info! I am looking to upgrade my audio from a Rode Lavalier GO Lapel Mic. I create talking-head UA-cam videos in a fairly well-treated room and plan to upgrade to a boom mic above my head. I would like to find the best mic that I can plug straight into camera (Fuji XT3), so I don’t have to sync audio in post.
    I’m considering the Rode VideoMic NTG and the Sennheiser MKE 600. Which of these mics do you think would be better for my application? I have heard the MKE 600 has better audio quality (Although I would not be powering the MKE 600 via XLR), but I wonder if the difference would justify getting that over the Rode- which has a power system that I can more easily charge, is cheaper, and seems to sound great. The Rode also has a gain knob on the mic so I could avoid using the camera’s gain. My UA-cam channel is called Hope Through Prophecy in case you would like to see my current setup. Thanks for any help!

    Hi Sean, I just posted my FIRST video on Sunday! I couldn’t have done it without your amazing tips and guidance. I still did a million things wrong, of course, but I got it out there! The next one will be better. You know what I would love to see, a “UA-cam Video Checklist” video where you list off the tasks that need to be completed (in order) and you can link to related videos. Example: 1. Research idea, 2. Write script, 3. Research title, thumbnail title, and tags, 4. Take Thumbnail picture, 5. Record video, etc. Also, when you have bullet point script ideas, how do you read them while you’re recording? I never see you checking notes!

    I am just thinking of maybe eventually perhaps starting a channel, but I really appreciated this video. My solution when testing some outdoor situations is to have another mobile recording with the Boya connected and then use that audio in postproduction. Maybe that isn't an option if a yoga session shows the body from all angles, a bit hard to disguise a phone then. Since I haven't even started or even know if I'm going to, low budget is the way I go 😁

    If she went with a wired lav, what if she went with a dual lav? One for voice, and the other placed somewhere else to capture the ambient noise?
    Also, I'm not sure how far away the phone is from where she is performing yoga, but with the shotgun mic option, she might want to buy an extender 3.5mm audio cable to bring the shotgun mic a bit closer to where she is performing (throw it on a tripod nearby). Great video, Nolan!

    • @nolanmolt
      @nolanmolt 4 роки тому +1

      I don’t think it’s possible. The g7x mark ii doesn’t have an external mic jack, and I’m pretty sure it can’t do this through Bluetooth either. What you could do is just open you voice memos app on you iPhone and hold your phone like a mic, then take that audio file and sync it up when you edit the video

    I would also suggest maybe just recording the audio of the yoga session without talking and letting the phone record the ambient sounds around her, then do a voice over but at a slightly lower level so the background sounds are still audible. Alternatively she could also setup a secondary recording device for just the ambient noises (a bit further away) and do a pinpoint audio on herself with a shotgun mic or lapel mic. Mixing the audio in either case can make it easier to reduce the wind noise that could make the vocals harder to understand. The secondary audio "recorder" could be something as simple as an older smartphone that you have sitting around, no one watching will know if it is an expensive recorder or not unless you say something 😏.

    I brought a lapel micro phone under 20£ and that was really good. The output is perfect. Worthy to buy. You will not regret buying that.

    Thank you for sharing this video--just wish that it was broken up perhaps with timestamps in the description. I was waiting for information on a suggested shotgun mic for my new handheld Fuji camera, but over 5 minutes into the video, the discussion was still focused on smartphones. At 5:29, you began talking about the shotgun mics--that was the info I was looking for. I'm just offering a suggestion of doing a different video on each type of mic or adding timestamps in the video description so that viewers can jump to the hardware information that they need. The delivery of information is excellent; I'd just like a quicker means to find the info i need. Thanks again for all the great information that your channel shares with the community!

      I’m guessing Hue lightbulbs or lamps, but I’ve noticed some cheap no-name brand lightbulbs on Amazon that change color

    All of the information you provide has helped me in many areas. I've noticed my channel growing by using your tips. I also received the book called "UA-cam Secrets" for my b-day and have been currently reading it and trying to better my channel.

    Seems most of these microphones work with iphones. Do they work as well with android devices?

    🚂 I use the Rode VideoMic Me-L sold at the Apple Store. On an iPhone 11 Pro. If Apple sells it you can not go wrong. $79.00 This comes with a dead cat. 😎
