thank you for the video & thoroughness... a bit tricky getting the safety pin off, i tied it with a thin wire and was holding it not to loose it into the abyss of the pit hole (put some wd 40 on it for easy removal as well.
Not a bad video. You do need a torx bit. Luckily I had a set. Took me like 40 min. To remove and install. Could probably do it in 20 min now. Didnt even need to disconnect battery. Ps dont cut any cables I just unplugged mine.

I just spilled an ice tea over the sifter , then I am charging my phone turn on the ignition for 3 hours. I can't start the car now. I thought is only the battery weak. After charging it. The ignition key turn but do not crank ,the gear stuck , so I poked it in neutral trying to start , but can not. The fuses , relay everything are ok. Is my steering Clk 430 in the locked position ??? I am frustrated and please help me solve the problem. I am scared to spend money going to a mechanic. Thanks.
ramos ochoa if you spilled a good amount of liquid on the shifter, yes that’s the problem, first buy yourself a cheap scanner from Harbour Freight and scan your codes, you probably have P0705, then follow the procedure in this video and pull the shifter out, buy 2 or 3 cans of Electronic Contact Cleaner and spray your shifter, make sure it is dry and install it and clear the codes. Hope for the best this cures your problem if not you have to swap the shifter, buy an eBay unit less than $200 and install it. So if your shifter can be saved you are looking less than $50 if not it is still less than $200. Hope this helps.
Thanks Halil Cakir for your best advised. :) I already towed the car home. By the way , I owned an Clk 320 too. The 320 runs perfect. :) As I listened and learn about Electronic Steering Lock , EIS , the key position. . And Emulator , fuse checked , relay. I even try to maybe knock and bang the starter. What I haven't done is get a FULLY CHARGED battery. I am charging my battery to full charged and plan to put it on before I open and clean the sifter and put it back. My question again , I don't really know about the Mercedes Benz. On the Japanes Car the Automatic gear had a PRND12 . Of course you have to press the brake to start the car. Has to put in Park or Neutral to start. Sometimes the switch is bad , need to move it up and down before start. :) In this Video. I don't really see the switch..or electronic , so the The whole piece of the sifter come out , maybe the electronic coponenent or connection inside not working because of the spilled. Thanks for the video , I am very blessed to see this. Saved me from spending money. One day , I press the button of Screw and tools by the box. The SOS and light blink , gear stuck , can't start. told me to see the dealer. After one day unplug the battery , back to normal. :) hope I can do it. It looks simple , but haven't try it. ramos ochoa yes that points out to an issue with the electronic part of the shifter, if it works one day and not working the next day yes that’s the shifter, also when you take it apart make sure your shifter bushing is good and have a good connection between the shifter and the rod to transmission. You don’t have to press the brake pedal to start the car but you definitely need to press it when you changing gears between PRND

ive done the similar R/R on my ml320 spilled a drink, anyways... I thought the hardest part of the repair was removing the center console to remove the shifter assy... it is an incredibly easy fix... but the replacement was cake..

Mike Brown Hey Mike. No worries. I never removed the bushing from the shifter lever. It seem to be fine so i left it as it was. No issues since then. This is the best and most reliable car ever. I almost hit 200k miles and it still runs like a champ 💪🏼

@@eramire5 Thank you! At that point in time I was told, that the unit is part of the car alarm and needed to be reprogrammed when exchanged. My error was based on connectivity issues from the fuse box left side to the box with the controllers on the right side. Cheers Thomas
I just bought one of these with 122k miles for ridiculously cheap because of limp mode. He said the rain got in the shifter and never worked right again. Should this fix it?
DjDestinyChicago most likely yes. These shifters are very sensitive to any kind of water spills. A Mercedes mechanic with the right computer can reset the computer and get it out of limp mode but if it goes back to it again then you can try this and it should fix it.

My 1999 mercedes e320 and I had spilled soda on my shifter I’m sure it leaked in will replacing it take it out of limp mode?? It shifts into reverse neutral and drive just none of the number gears. I think it’s stuck in third as I can drive it without red lining up to 50 mph

anthony macy mb used the same 722 transmission all the way from 1990 till 2005 and 2007 in some models so shouldn't be hard to find a matching one just make sure its the tronic version with 5 gears or else you won't be able to use the tronic feature
If you do come accross any difficulties ask away and I'll help out or you can simply pop by at mb forums and i and many other w210 owners can help you out there also this car has one of the largest amount of tutorials and guides online amongs all mb vehicles

Cezar Fuccile it might be the shifter. Did you replace it yet? If the shifter fails to work fine it goes into limp mode. Not sure about the codes. Have you ever spill water or liquids on top of it

Cezar Fuccile if the shifter is bad and you get a working one in place it is just plug and play. This shifters are super sensitive to any little spill of water or liquids. If it got wet at some point it will not operate properly. Mine had that issue and then purchased the one thst i have now and voilaaaa 👌🏼
Cezar Fuccile your problem is not with the shifter, p0715 is a generic code for the tcm having problems with communicating to the transmission p0700 is simple a code that there is an error with your transmission or tcm ... my advice is disconnect the two plugs on your tcm and check for traces of oil or take the tcm out by pressing two tabs on both sides and turn it upside down and watch if any oil comes out if so then you simply have one of the most common problems which is a leaking 13 pin connector you can get the seals on it replaced and try using brake cleaner to clean your tcm and see if it works well if it does then give about a month or two and get the tcm cleaned again as left over oil in the harness will sip in but if it doesn't help and you did see oil in your tcm then I'm sorry you would need to get your tcm either fixed or replaced you can fix it your self as most commonly what fails after tcm flooding is a capacitor on the top left corner of the tcm

No the bushing just avoids the clunky noise from metal but has nothing to do with the actual shifting.

Hey did you need to have your new gearshift programmed or was this a plug and play process

My 1999 mercedes e320 and I had spilled soda on my shifter I’m sure it leaked in will replacing it take it out of limp mode?? It shifts into reverse neutral and drive just none of the number gears. I think it’s stuck in third as I can drive it without red lining up to 50 mph
@@anthonymasias6632 your stuck in limp mode. Changing the shifter should work.
very nice demonstration. what about the PRND illumination. probably a
burnt light bulb on my w210 position P and R don't light up when
selected. any tip for easy fix?
