I have a W211 ‘03 E320 trans 722.6 and I had a problem like this, it would go from Parking to Drive but the ones on the dash would stay on P or R and it wouldn’t go past 1st gear and whenever I tried to put it on P it would stay on Neutral and won’t go till I turn the car off and move it to P and then turn it on again. I changed the shifter selector around $200 (used) and it would shift perfectly without any issue, and then the dash would show the same as the shifter selector and it won’t get stuck in N and it will shift out of 1st gear without any problem !! First I thought it was the whole transmission but the video helped me a lot and made me think it twice! Definitely a great video keep it up !

@@pacman-qt1ixI have a ml320 if you can put the vehicle in park without shutting the vehicle off first then this is not your problem. Your problem is either low trans fluids or conductor plate which is located on the valve body in the transmission. It's not a hard job. I'll say it's a 90 to 95% chance it's the conductor plate. Due to heat over time they start to crack because it's made of plastic and it will put vehicle in limp mode

I saw your Video and I hope it’s the gear selector box. I have something similar to one of your viewer’s. I have a 2008 CLK350. Dash indicator stays on P all the time and the gear box would shift from P,R,N,and D with no problem. The car will not move at all. I really would like to know for sure if this is the issue and if anyone can help.
What code do you have to begin with? Do you have access to a bi directional scanner? It can be many things, it can be the shifter module, it can be low on Atf, it be bad transmission solenoid.
Good morning, sounds like you don't have an issue with the shifter, but with the actual transmission. You might have bad valve bodies. Have someone scan and pull information from the transmission. I'm positive that's the issue.

That definitely has nothing to do with a shifter module. Your problem is most likely coming from the transmission can be a valve body or a bad conductor plate! Good Luck!

Hello. I think I have this exact same problem and I was wondering, did you have check engine light for that code? I don't own a scan tool and would like to know if it might be a separate issue. NGL car's a beater and I don't want to spend one single extra dime on it anymore, if possible hah. Thanks.
There was indeed a code associated with the check engine light. But it was not a hard code, it was a soft code, this will not trigger the check engine light. This vehicle had the check engine light on for a Bad 02 sensor which I also replaced.
@@Fwerks.1592 Thought I'd post once more if anyone else is having these issues. I in fact had a code for the shifter and Check Engline Light with it too. I removed it just as you did (superb video, made it easy even when my center console is a bit different) and sent it to a auto electronics repair shop. Cost me 250€+postal fees. I didn't have a chance to install it under the car. It's pretty shitjob as you told, but it can be done from top. I hung the gearbox side shift rods as high as I could with steel wires to get it started and a bit of WD40 made installing the clip a bit less tedious. I reset my gear box too just in case, there's a video of it on youtube if you don't have a code reader as I don't. Mine is V6 '02. Thanks for the tutorial and have a great summer!
I have a 2010 c300 (w204). My shifter stays stuck in Park, until about 20 minutes of idle…then it works fine the rest of the day. Would this be a bad shifter module?? Thank you!
Have you tried shutting the car off and turning it back on and the shifter works? I can be other things besides the shifter if you have to wait to shift after 20 minutes.
@@Patzimaro21 sounds like it may be your shifter. I would recommend if you have access or anyone that may have a scanner. Have them scan it and see if any modules code come up, keep me updated!

@@KentDang-b8j an Indy shop would definitely charge you around 1k-$1,100 to replace the module. I believe this is something you can tackle if you have a set of tools and some patience. The shifter when I got it was under $500 but now it has went up to $675. I got the shifter from FCP Euro.com, that’s usually where I get all my parts.

Hi I have a 05 C240 showing a P0705 (transmission range sensor) except I cannot for the life of me find this part anywhere. Not Mercedes not fcp euro nowhere I don’t know what to do. My mechanic is on vacation and the forums are useless
I also have a P0705 code on my 2005 E320, and no transmission range sensor for sale anywhere. I believe it's built into the shifter module. So you have to replace the whole module. I got a couple shifters from the junkyard cheap cheap. One of them worked. Problem solved.
I have a 722.6 2003 e320. Recently flushed the transmission and when I started testing the engine just revs up, putting it to drive and reverse, not moving at all. Found out the gear selector rod inside the valve body was broken. So I replaced it and after putting everything back again and tried testing it again, changing gear has become a problem. Then I heard a clunking sound when I tried putting the car in Drive mode position, the car moved backwards. So I discontinued the test drive. Put it back in park position. Waited about another minute before starting the car again. And now the car won’t drive at all. Could it be the shifter module is broken?
I had that issue with a bmw after replacing the valve body. I didn’t know u have to drive so many miles before it clear that hard code by itself so just keep driving it trust me

Good question! Looks like your shifter does move into the gear, but you mentioned once in that gear it doesn’t move. Usually a bad shifter is locked in place and won’t let you move it in place. I would definitely get the vehicle scanned. You might have some valve bodies that went bad?

@@moetic6601 definitely it’s the shifter module! Unfortunately there is only one brand that makes that and it’s Mercedes OEM part. There is no aftermarket brands for this module! There is no programming needed! It’s a plug and play part.

i have a p705 what happens is it shifts fine but when i make a full stop it gets stuck in 2st gear it can’t go in to park it is making a horrible, grinding noise from when you go drive to neutral but turn it off can you going to park and i turn it back on and it’s fine
Sounds like a bad transmission sensor going bad! Usually that is built into the shifter gear box. I’d recommend replacing your shifter gearbox. That should solve your issue!
Have you fixed your problem. i have sometimes similar problem on the dashboard doesn't show p,r,n,d and when that happens it doesn't shift gears stays in 1 gear.... i turn the car of maybe 1-10 times then on the dashboard shows the p,r,n,d. and drives back normal shifts smoothly.

@@gangalee83 The 4 light emitting sensors were my issue. 4 solders each, 16 total. There's a post on a Mercedes forum circling them. They look fine to the naked eye, current was running through them, but they were not making contact to the board.

Yeah definitely the module is not working on that shifter assembly. Replace it, that should solve your issue.
Did you have to get a virginized module? I got another shifter form a pull a part and car wouldn’t turn on .
This shifter is a plug and play no need to code or anything like that. The ecu re-learns it on it's own.

I have a solution! It’s definitely a bad gear selector module. Replacing the entire unit will restore the shifting issue for sure!!

I have a p0730 code on a 06 e350 it shifts 1 and 2nd gear then it feels like it don’t wanna go in 3rd but it go in 67and8th no problem

@@Patzimaro21 depending on the severity. I believe the shifter in this e class did not throw a check engine, however it was stored as a “soft code”

Nope Usually it does not let you shift until you turn the car off and wait a few minutes. You might be having a different issue?

I did mine with 0.5 cents of electricity by using the soldering machine
