It's amazing that Nintendo has turned 180° on the Xenoblade series and provided Monolithsoft with the budget to go all out with the soundtrack realizing that the music of the original game was well-loved... when seven years ago, fans had to start an Operation Rainfall petition to bring the original Xenoblade game to the west... In a way, I'm thankful for Operation Rainfall.
Richard Hannay And now, there’s gonna be a remake of Xenoblade ten years later, and that was the one last announcement of the Direct! I love how Xenoblade came from having outcry from fans to come to the west all the way to getting a sequel (and X) and having two remakes!
Fun fact: Sara Weeda, who sung “A Step Away” and “Where We Belong” in Xenoblade 3, is also part of ANÚNA, and I believe that’s her in the middle at 2:45!
I for one couldn't be more ecstatic to learn that Yasunori Mitsuda is so heavily involved in this games soundtrack. He composed the majority of Chrono Trigger's songs, all of Chrono Cross's songs, all of Xenogears songs, many Xenosaga songs, and the ending theme for Xenoblade Chronicles. He's a brilliant composer with an incredible amount of dedication to his work. For example, when composing for Chrono Trigger he would work almost constantly, sleeping in his office rather than returning home. He'd then have dreams that would inspire further music. After nearly completing the soundtrack his hard drive failed and he lost all his work, then while he re-composed the soundtrack he worked so hard he developed stomach ulcers and had to be hospitalized. Nobuo Uematsu (of Final Fantasy fame) then stepped in to finish the soundtrack with a few tracks of his own but the vast majority of Chrono Trigger's tracks remained Mitsudas. When he was released from the hospital and saw the end cutscene of Chrono Trigger with his music playing in the background he cried. Someone who dedicates that much of themselves to their work... It's no wonder his tracks ended up being so gorgeous. Xenogears still has one of my favorite soundtracks of all time.
Yeah, no kidding. In a way, I don't think that the Japanese culture of overworking is healthy. At the same time, to be truly exceptional at something I think you have to lack a little balance in your life somehow. The man is clearly not only a musical genius but incredibly passionate and incredibly dedicated. I really hope he can be proud of himself with this soundtrack. It seems that he was able to do things here that he had previously only dreamed of.
Lyrics: Shadow of the Lowlands, Leading to the cold and darkened days. Without any hope, Without a light for love. Will this suffering ever come to an end? One day... Pride keeps us strong today, Glory will be with us, Now the time has come, To fight and seize the day. Suddenly a gleam of dawn, Can you feel the power of faith? Our native land, Here we stand as one.
The fact that they got an actual Irish choral group to sing Tantal AND Indol's theme is impressive. Guess Nintendo realized that since people had such high regard for the soundtrack of the first game, they had to outdo themselves on Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
As an Irish person I am proud to have one of our best choirs in one of the best games. Yes I knew about this before Chuggaa but never bothered to comment.
Honestly don't get why people are comparing this to Jump Up, Super Star. That's like comparing apples to oranges. Jump Up, Super Star is more of a lively upbeat broadway theme that fits the overall adventure. Shadows of the Lowlands is more of a somber, emotional theme that kinda fits the opening of Xenoblade 2's story...with the whole Titan's going extinct and all. I'm definitely looking forward to this game, reguardless.
Yasunori Mitsuda is a master of the craft, he has consistently delivered some of my favorite videogame soundtracks ever and honestly some of them are so good I'd easily put them toe to toe with non videogame music.
Not at all, I think you misunderstood, I was trying to say that they easily fit in with any music. Though I see where it could be seen the way you interpreted it. I think most people that aren't used to videogames would put videogame music below other types of music but I don't count myself among such people.
