Well guys that is a fantastic clip of what everyone should be doing before their big trips.I always do a full weight check before each trip, but when in caravan parks 80% of the people I have spoken to have no idea about what their set up weighs. That's actually the best placard I've seen as they at least estimate what the torsional weight of the towball is on the rear axle. :) Most people don't think about the towball weight overloading their back axle and obviously Nissan have had enough bent axles to tell customers. :) Nice vid gang! :D
It’s a great idea as long as you know what weight you need to tow before you ever tow... it’s a shame it catches people out and it’s not discussed when purchasing... We hope people can be educated more before buying or with help from videos like ours 😊

@@BigOzExplorers yeah it's just the car that's over weight. We tow an "Ultimate"Camper Trailer, which only weighs 1200kg loaded. We did the Simpson Desert last year and thought it might be time to get a caravan!......It's hard deciding on one, there's soooo much out there! Love the style of videos you guys are doing! Here in the USA there are no laws like this. you can tow a huge caravan with a little vehicle, its crazy!!(no over load limits) i wish we had the same laws as you have there. it is really a safe way to do it. i have some mates that will tow 30 feet caravans with single cab hi-lux type trucks. it is dangerous at 70 MPH on the highway... I try too keep my caravan balanced and the weight correct as you all do there in AU, it works out better, also there is no laws on the lift of a 4WD truck here.... hello from the USA , state of Tennessee. 👍

My brother has a Cruiser with a removable camper, he uprated the suspension from 3300kg to 3900kg, that should solve your weight issue with changing vehicle or making sacrifices on what you carry.

Could always travel with 1 MT tank until you need to fill again when you go off grid
Now for the scary stuff. I'm an interstate trucky so we are always getting hammered for weights, as we should. If your overweight, that will increase your breaking distance and if you are involved in an accident where someone is killed, or maimed, and you are found at fault with an overweight caravan, tow vehicle or combination, caravan and tow vehicle, and found guilty, you will go to jail for culpable driving. You drove an unroadworthy vehicle that contributed to someones injury or death. It's just that simple. Ignorance is no excuse.

I found this very informative, but telling people they MUST load their van so that there is 50% of the load over each wheel and telling them that the way they are loaded with 52% over one wheel and 48%over the other is dangerous. This is a little unrealistic unless you have a set of scales to assist you. I would be happy they way they are packed, in fact listening to what Carl says, after every camp where you have used water and eaten food, the 50% each side automatically changes so you have to pack your van differently every time you move. Just not realistic. Other than that well done and informative

It's not easy to get your head around!! I recommend contacting Ezi-Weigh or a similar company near you and get their help, it really will make your job that much easier and give you peace of mind! 🥰
Great Information Guys, I think the information regarding the Nissan Name Plate needs to be addressed, the nice chap weighing the Nissan and Van appears to have misinterpretation the information.
It’s a confusing plate as it says Nissan ‘recommends’ not ‘requires’ ... It’s open for interpretation I’d say and more than one answer could be right here 👍🏻
Yeah I think I have it Sussed but when I tried to send you guys a message it ended up looking as long as small book lol! I think at the end of the day always keep in mind that the sticker ratings also considers the factory rebound of the springs,😳😳 yep if you up rate the springs then you get a whole different rebound pressure against the ball that will show on the scales in weight yeah! Trucks have a vertical upward pressure and obviously the caravan is downward, combine the both will give you a total force on the hitch point which is what manufacturers are concerned about. Soooooooo! Let’s say you had a perfectly balanced Van putting zero downward force but was hitched. Not possible but let’s just say. Perfectly balanced, this would mean by the sticker and considering your vehicle weighs 3500kg (VGM) then to put a 300kg upward force on the Bar you would have to remove 410kg In turn the Nissan would naturally raise if enough suspension stroke was there to add 300kg of upward pressure to the ball. See what I have done, I have worked the formulae in reverse to show you what it means. 🥴🥴.
yup doesnt take much to be overweight, after I set my car up I was 3kg under gvm with no one in it, straight to a gvm/gcm upgrade and my dad got his done before he even picked his new car up
You totally get it then! We had a similar situation with 17kg under GVM when we were packed and ready inc passengers!! Glad your dad and yourself have been able to resolve the situation for each of your rigs 🙌🏻 🥳
@@BigOzExplorers yeh being tradies as well our cars are close to being over with just our tools and we've even gone lithium batteries and flexi solar panels, so most tradies or people with fully kitted out canopies are most likely over gvm, sure was an eye opener

Just read a comment that people buy without knowing all the weights. Wrong. Duty of care know dictates that all salesman must make sure they sell a caravan that is legal to be towed with the purchasers tow vehicle. If not, they are in breach. If you buy something and throw 2 tonne in it, no, they are not at fault, but the tow vehicle must be legally able to tow the caravans gross (loaded) weight as stamped on the plate.
I wish they met their duty of care... many salesmen are good at sales and miss the facts when selling... it may be a breach but if the buyer knows no better, well... 🤷🏼♀️ it’s a shame hey 👎🏻
Good job guys'. However the thousands apon thousands we spend on good towing vehicles and decent caravans. Makes me think if a little more weight here and a little less there makes such a difference to safety then we wasted money buying these toys and should go back to motels.
Fair call I hear where your coming from, but it is a good learning experience for anyone towing especially if they are oblivious of how weight could affect a car (even when they underweight etc) towing safely with a vehicle is still important. Motels are the bomb though, don’t have to do wash the towels and linen like when your caravanning 😂
