We have to change the way we think about the rich people who own companies. Elon Musk wasn't the guy "sending Americans into space" and he wasn't the guy "building electric cars". He just OWNED THE COMPANIES THAT DID THOSE THINGS. He didn't even found them, he just BOUGHT THEM. All he did was take credit for the achievements of nameless scientists, engineers, and workers, while getting to make money of their efforts as well. That is capitalism, in a nutshell.
That's what I've been saying as well. The corporate guys have no idea what is going on in the technical sense.
Musk's greatest contribution was thinking that these companies could be profitable, not in actually creating the cars or rockets.

In This country we have to stop the hero worshiping. The achievement of any individual comes from standing on the shoulders of those who came before him. No one should have the kind of power that these billionaires currently exercise. there has to be limits on any individual’s ability to control and manipulate resources, and power. No one is immune from the human frailties that have plagued humanity since beginning of our reign of power on this planet. I hope, someday the rest of the world will realize this and put in place reasonable restraints on the power and wealth that any individual can accumulate.

Bipolar comes in several flavors. Some people cycle quickly, more than once a month, some people only cycle a couple times a year. Sometimes the mania goes so high it goes into anger and irrationality, and the depression can become so deep they can't function. I don't watch him closely but nothing has jumped out to me as bipolar. Perrsonality disorders on the other hand are not a medical issue.

That means that one doesn't need great social skills or empathy to manage and build a social network. It's just a code and numbers game. And both hosts' and Walter's remarks, that empathy is a requirement for building a social network do not seem to be relevant from my point of view.

My oldest friend has Asperger's and sometimes, they actually DO try to provoke, it's not that they can't help it -this was particularly so when we were younger. I don't know whether Musk will gain emotional maturity, but trying to engineer the rest of us according to his whim via X in the meantime is not the best way for him to get there.

Could we get a consensus from people who know engineers that personality traits do not equate to skills of the job. I knew nothing about Musk until he took over Twitter. His bizarre behavior left me chilled, so I left. On the other hand I’ve known NASA engineers. No similarities.

I’m an engineer and yes some of my classmates and colleagues are less gifted with respect to the social skills, but that didn’t make them smarter or better engineers. Some of the most brilliant engineers I have studied or worked with also had excellent social skills and personality traits that are not associated with a “ typical engineer” (aka Dilbert).
I used to be the biggest fan of Musk, Jobs, and Isaacson - and while Musk is troubled, this hit job is just trying to sell books.

I've read Isaacson's book on Kissinger, I found it pretty impressive (not at all a glorification of its subject), so I'm very eagerly looking forward to reading this new biography.
