I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder and depression. When I have one of those down moments, I go out and practice putting, and when I have enough time, I always head out to play. It's the closest thing to forest bathing. I started posting my putting practice on UA-cam shorts to keep track. :)
You have grown to be one of my fav disc golf channels to watch! Also you have taught me a lot about the game saving me strokes on the course. Thanks :)
Disc Golf has changed my life. I too enjoy the cardio aspect of it but more importantly, it is a sport I can continue to do into my old age. 51 now, and I don't see stopping anytime soon. Thanks for the content buddy.
Hey Pete, thanks for the great video! I am 59 years old and was introduced to this great sport just 4 months ago, you are so right about the mental benefits of being outdoors and having a fun game to focus on for an hour after work. I am fortunate to have a short course (140-230 foot holes) close enough that I can ride my bike to, and am enjoying learning this game even though I can’t throw very far. I am definitely feeling the benefits from playing regularly and anticipating enjoying the game as I get older knowing that it will help keep me active.
When I first started Disc Golf at our local courses here in Albuquerque New Mexico it would take me 10 to 12,000 steps to complete. Now that I’m getting a little better I’m doing them in 7 to 8000 steps. So obviously Disc Golf is more healthy for you when you’re a Trash player. Love your videos.
OK your comment made me literally laugh out loud. I think you’re on to something. here’s to hoping that you keep using less and less steps in your rounds. :-)
I love this response. Humor is also a great benefit to stress/depression/anxiety. It is nice to think that as I get older, and my disc golf game deteriorates…..my health will increase. What’s not to like about this sport?
Pete, I love disc golf and I encourage other senior men and women to play. Besides the straight exercise from walking and the cardio from elevation changes, I see several other benefits. I'm order to properly throw a disc backhand with some power, it is necessary to engage your core, as well as several other large muscle groups. After doing an extended field session or a couple dozen holes of DG, I'm always pleased with feeling the minor soreness of my calf, thigh, glute, abdominal, back, shoulder, tricep, bicep, and forearm muscles. Also, the exercise in occurring out in the fresh air, rather than indoors. Much healthier. Assuming one approaches the game with the proper mindset, not thinking it always has to be a competition, it is very relaxing and takes your mind off of your other problems. Conversely, if you have a complex issue you're dealing with, DG can give you the time and space to let your brain resolve the issue and lower your anxiety level. For the most part, as long as you don't beat your body up with repetitive motions, DG is relatively injury free. I've had several acquaintances get significant injuries from play pickleball. I know if almost no casual DG players who have sustained an injury, unless they had a slip and fall, which can usually be avoided with proper footwear and some care. Also, as an outdoor activity typically played during the day, the sunlight exposure is very beneficial both psychologically and physiologically.
Yes! Fitness is the primary reason I started playing almost 2 years ago. I’ve lost 40 lbs. I play/practice 4 or more days a week. My balance, mobility, and overall fitness is much better. My resting heart rate has gone down considerably. Every round or practice session is a Cardio workout for me. I certainly still have aches and pains but they from playing too much at times, NOT from just sitting around to much. The added bonus is its FUN! I’m 66 and plan to play for as long as I can.
I’m originally from a real small town and had lots of woods around me, but when I met my lovely wife, she wanted to move to the suburbs, and I immediately said whatever you want, honey So I’m so thankful for Disc Golf. It keeps me in the parks and reminds me of growing up Also, I’ve lost weight. I try to do 18 holes every morning. Thank God, I’m surrounded by a lot of parks in Kansas City suburbs Also, I feel like I’m getting stronger climbing all these hills. I don’t get tuckered out too easy anymore.
I also do running rounds at my local course here in Montgomery AL. It’s about 3 miles and my best time while playing is around 30 minutes. I would never run just for my health but I play disc golf up to 6 days a week.
dang it! I didn’t even think about that. Yes, that is a wonderful point about how you can bring out your dogs to play with you. Thanks so much for that.

Totally agree... thank you so much for sharing.
You're the disc golf father none of us had but we wish we did 🥏
Can you tell my kids that? :D Now go clean your room!!!! Thanks
Thank you for this video. It is very encouraging. I’ve suffered from anxiety for years. It made me realize that I need to get out on course more.
I’m so glad to hear that. It’s important to find healthy coping mechanisms for your anxiety.

That’s awesome, keep it up! You’re an inspiration!

I've lost 85 lbs since I started play a year and a half ago
That is so great! Congrats! Thank you for sharing!

That is great! I can't run just for the sake of running, so I totally get it.
Started playing in '20. I've lost 40lbs strictly playing disc golf during that time.
That is so great! Thanks for sharing!
Another great factor is that I bring my dog with me. She is leashed up but she also has a great time.
dang it! I didn’t even think about that. Yes, that is a wonderful point about how you can bring out your dogs to play with you. Thanks so much for that.
It is a sport that grandparents can easily play with their grandchildren.
I just played with my dad and son... three generations. Such a great sport to create great generational memories.
See? Buying more discs bulks up the bag and makes me stronger. I need more discs for the resistance training!!
I like where your head is at! :D
It is great until you ruin your hip when you slip on a throw. Then you can’t walk
So true! Ouch!
