Vlogmas Day 4 - Why did it fly that way | Disc Golf Tips
Take time to figure out why a disc didn't fly the way you expected. It is so easy to write off a bad shot as bad luck or the disc messed up, but if you can take a moment and figure out the physics behind the shot, it could save you strokes later.

I need your help with this channel. I am trying to push for 5000 subscriptions before I go to the Disc Golf East Expo in Boston at the end of February. That is a big ask, but let's see if we can make it. I will be trying to post a new video each day during the month of December, so join along and let's see what lessons and fun we can get into! Thanks so much!
Scramble Putts... are you practicing for the chaos? | Disc Golf Tips

I have touched on this before, but I keep wanting to remind us all to work on all aspects of the game. It is so easy to get tunnel vision and work on certain parts of the game and neglect others. While I am a big proponent of working smarter, I also believe in practicing for all eventualities and scramble putting can be a big emotional boost to your round if you make one that you and your cardm...

Have that problem with the uplink all the time.
It is so easy to forget... we decelerate and the wonder why it didn't fly the same. :D Thanks my friend!
I have done this in the house when my wife wasn’t home.
The first step to dealing with a problem is admitting you have a problem.... :D Sorry, that was too easy! :D
folding chair method works ppl
I am assuming that means people, not some hip slang that this old fart doesn't understand. :D Please let me know if I missed it completely and you were abbreviating the word "purple" :D Thanks so much for watching!
@@ogdiscgolfer you're right <3
Another day - and so many great tips. I have focused on "needing" to have a field to do drives or going to the course to train putting. But this is great! And spot on with the Wifey - she won't argue on the chair and it's great to have "life working" tips like this. Keep em coming!
Glad it helped! Let's face it... 30 years of being crazy about disc golf and having a wife that tolerates the obsession, I have had to get creative sometimes. :D Thanks
Here's my putting practice target--a pool noodle over a fiberglass driveway marker with a spring base. It's soft for the disc edge, and a small target. (Aim small, miss small!) And while I do not get the *tching* sound of chains, it is still satisfying to watch the pole fall down and rise again with a solid hit.
That is awesome! Thanks for sharing that!
So hilarious I brought a camp chair with today, to practice putting while my son visits his friend.
That is awesome!
@ as practice I listen to the video
I will keep that in mind and randomly yell out "That was terrible Homer!!!" in future videos just to mess with your shots! :D
You know, I never thought about using a tree as a target. Too bad that does not count on the disc golf course. Thanks for the video.
Well, old school days when we were throwing rocks and slate since plastic hadn't been invented... trees were our first baskets. :D
I built my own basket out of two bike wheels, a piece of 3/4 in conduit, and some HD chains I bought online. It cost me 23 dollars total (because I already had the two bike wheels). Folks hear me lol it's not that expensive to build a disc target. Pete, I've seen the pvc square design before and it's awesome man. I really like the chair and broom as far as an easy target, great idea! Disc golf is LIFE!
I made my first "real" practice basket in Thailand out of bicycle wheel and the large wash tub... gotta use what you can! Thanks so much!
Just a quick heads up, the DISC East expo will be held at the end of January, not the end of February. Either way, I'll see you there! ;)
Dang it! Did I say January? Thanks, I know it is February, but my mouth didn't. :D
@@ogdiscgolfer Whoops, other way around. 😆 It is currently scheduled for January 25th and 26th of 2025.
Oh crap! I had it on my calendar and in my head for over 2 months away, and that mutated for some reason to February this week... I guess I am in disbelief that we jumped into December already! Thanks for keeping me halfway on target! :D
I like the chair idea. Never really thought about using one of those. I been on a few trips and I ended up bringing my practice basket, but man those take up a lot of space and make a lot of noise in the trunk.
And the family tends to look at you funny when you bring a basket and forget to pack enough underwear... priorities! :D
Great tips !
Glad you like them!
I really like your channel! One small thing I would change is your intro. The music volume is loader than your video and it's a bit too long.
Thanks for that... I am looking to revamp the intro in the near future, but I didn't know the music was coming across louder. (I automatch the levels to the rest of the video, but I may be doing something incorrect... I will definitely work on that for the videos going forward... but please ignore the next 9 that are already in the queue. :D) Great feedback that is quite helpful!
Enjoyed this video. I think this approach is good for everyday practice as well.
Yes it is. :D Thanks
THANK YOU, GREAT ADVICE FOR SURE
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it! :D
Thank you for the background and standing on your faith. I too plan on sharing my faith as I can while playing DG too. Can you give us beginners with low arm speed, some ideas and pointers like in some of your other videos. Pete thank you very much for everything you're doing sir. I am praying you can make this your full-time gig too.
I am getting several responses about slower armspeed and older players, so I am going to try to work on that. Thanks so much! Keep pressing on brother!
@@ogdiscgolfer yes sir and thank you again.
packing up my discs for the year here in michigan. how about a vid about storage, disc maintenance, off season info? 🤷♂️
You obviously haven't seen my van and how I treat my discs! Let's just say Gannon Buhr would slap me for the way I mistreat my discs. That said... I will noodle on that one... living in Alabama I get to play year round, but that is not a bad topic... Thanks!
Pete!!!!! I love what you do already bud. I think you are very entertaining and easy to watch. I think the fact that you are easy to talk to makes your channel even better broski! Keep up the good work!
Thanks, man! I really appreciate the encouragement! :D Now if you could tell my wife that I am easy to talk to... :D I kid... I kid! :D
@@ogdiscgolfer isn't that the classic problem we all face ahhahahahaha.
Great Video, great content, great idea. 🎉
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Pete Greetings from Denmark Europe, thanks for all the content it's quite good and as others have said you should have higher subscriber numbers. Things to spice it up: 1. If possible do a couple of rounds with some other YT'rs front 9 on one channel back 9 on the other. 2. compare discs on the course do rounds with for instance 3 different stable mids, talk us through how you think they handle. 3. How to stuff, it's for vlogmas so you could revisit some of the old tuturials. Anyways I'll be tacking along enjoying.
Great input! thanks so much for watching all the way from Denmark... I am trying to get over to that area next year maybe, not sure the specifics yet... may end up in Norway since that is my heritage, but nothing set in stone yet. Would love to make it to Denmark one of these days!
I have holes in my area with large pine trees near the green. There’s one in particular that to get behind it is usually a layup. Can’t go through, too wide to get around. I’ve actually tried to slide an upside down disc under the branches before. The only remedy I’ve found is to stay away from that tree at all costs lol.
that fits in with another follow up video to this one in a day or two about scrambling... unfortunately it can't reduce the size of the tree. :D Thank you!
Vlogmas ideas, gift ideas, local disc golfer celebs even disc reviews
I watch your channel because of your teaching, tips, and your love of the game. I don’t watch channels in general that I don’t receive some knowledge from like your Robbie’s and Trash Panda. Time length is important to me, videos that go longer than 20-30 minutes I usually don’t watch fully unless I’m hooked on a Disc Golf how to’s.
thanks buddy! I will keep you and your kilt in mind! :D
Pateron is a great place for discussion on what to do next, behind the scenes I love Robbie C’s “On The Green” podcast cast videos where we ask questions and get live answers from him. Pateron would become your income source merch platform.
Thanks! I am going to work on Patreon stuff hopefully after next week... our big church Christmas program is Sunday and I have way too much to do to be attempting this Vlogmas... :D But, that is what caffeine is for! Thanks again!
Hey Pete, I really appreciate your channel. I’m one of those annoying people who often enjoy practice more than actual playing. So any topics based on improving practice I find very helpful. I also like playing rounds that restrictions are set in place such as what sort of disc is thrown or shot. I’ll keep an eye on your posts and if anything comes to mind I’ll send it your way. Keep up the great work and don’t stress out.
I would like to see Christian Disc golfers talking about christ Jesus. Also I would like to see you preparing for tournaments and then seeing you play tournaments and see you beat some of the youngsters😂 I share Jesus wherever, especially when I played Disc Golf. I am unashamed of the gospel!!!
I like your thoughts about Practice, learning your discs and your Darn good flick putting :). Your disc reviews are great too. Maybe colab with Robbie C/others and talk about distance form and keep the course/hole "management" ideas coming!
Thanks so much! Will definitely keep those ideas on the list! :D
Maybe some walkthroughs with talking through the shot and shape and disc selection of each hole, make a round of talking through the whys of each shot.
thanks for that... I have done some of that in the past and will make sure to highlight that more in the future!
Besides Jomez, I personally watch you the most. I have definitely learned lots of techniques and tips on how to get better! I’m honestly surprised you haven’t hit a higher subscriber # because I know others that are higher, but offer less valuable content IMO. Good news is that the sport is growing, so that means more potential eyeballs. Hang in there because sometimes it just takes the right video to hit the algorithm and then you get catapulted forward. Just know that I tell my DG buddies about you and will try harder to spread the word! Cheers and God Bless!
Hey, thanks so much for those very kind words. I am excited to see where this thing goes... hopefully you will like the tips etc... coming through this month. There is so much content out there to watch and I am just one voice, so I appreciate the eyeballs! :D Peace my friend!
What camera are you filming with?
I am using the DJI pocket 3 for most of my stuff... here is a video I did a little while back talking about some of my gear. ua-cam.com/video/czlx_hK-MqY/v-deo.html, thanks!
I met you at the Expo last year and found your channel. I'm not really sure what you can add to draw in more people, but I really enjoy the content you have and how you are always positive and having fun.
Thanks for the encouragement... I am hoping folks will say they enjoy what I am already doing... so I appreciate the positive feedback! :D
Hey bro, I want to encourage you to go for it. I'll gladly help you anyway I can and look forward to the day that you 'flip the switch"!
Thanks, man! I appreciate the support! Even from Blue! :D
As someone who's only been playing for a year and mostly only on weekends, I would like to see more content on things players tend to take for granted; HOW do you heiser flip and how is it helpful with different discs; how do you get "snap" on your release; how do you play for lower scores even if you can't throw really far; how did you get from the 250 plateau to 300...350
Lots of good questions... I have addressed some of those in past videos... especially hyzer flip multiple places, but the best ones off the top of my head are my video on Flight Numbers Cheat Code and then Why Flight Numbers and finally Shot Shaping. I talk a good bit in a lot of my playing rounds, especially when I do putter only rounds about playing well even if you can't throw far, but I will keep it in mind and try to highlight it in upcoming stuff. Thanks so much!
I talked with RC at the expo and you were right there but I didn't know you were the same guy 😂😆😂 I will say hello next time!
Definitely holler this time!! Thanks!
Enjoy your personality and the tidbits of your faith you drop time to time. Following you throw a round is enjoyable, particularly when you talk about your strategy. Selfishly I’d like to some content tailered to older players like me. I’d love to see a roller only round, I’ve done it and enjoyed it.
I am glad you enjoy the videos! I'll add your idea to my list of possible video topics. I have done one or two row the only rounds in the past, but I’ll try to see if I can do another one coming up. I know about three weeks ago. I did a first time with the Rollo but I will definitely keep that in mind, and I am definitely trying to think more for the older player since I am one :-) keep pressing on brother
Pete, it's a mental game. How can we stay focused while still having fun. As I age I see loss of power. Please keep posting and traveling.
Oh I am trying to put the fun into fun-da-mental! The mental is so much of this sport. I remember reading a story about Billy Graham talking about golf and he said it is one of the most beautiful and telling sports because it is just you and the ball... the only opponent you are playing against is yourself. The more we can be at peace with ourselves, the more joy we can have with this sport. Thanks!
found you through a reddit post on the discgolf sub a few weeks ago. i had to actually search your name to find the channel. I had been watching disc golf videos as I'm getting back into the sport after a few years of putting it down and was searching for more content. I don't necessarily watch for tips or advice, although I do appreciate it when they're given, but I enjoy more than any other channel I've found your attitude and lightheartedness. For example, the other day when you were getting hangry while playing a course and were self aware and pressed on through it was really nice to see. I'm not sure what type of content I want, but I'll be watching as long as its you doing it. Good luck with the 2025 aspirations and hopefully the algorithm gives you some much deserved love. cheers!
Wow! Thanks for the encouragement... yeah I try to keep it real and lighthearted... but sometimes hangry likes to come along for the ride. :D But, isn't disc golf such a wonderful sport to get to mess with? Thanks again!
Awesome! I may have been the one to post the link. I'm pretty active on that sub.
Happy Vlogmas aka Holidays from Houston, Texas!
Happy holidays!
I believe I like your teaching seasons best
Thanks my friend!
Would Love to see a in your bag video.
I tried flick putts for the first time and love them because of you. You're making the game even more fun thank you.
Thanks, I have been thinking about doing that! Biggest problem right now is I have 4 different bags going for different stuff... but I have it on the list for this month! Thanks!
Awesome! thanks!
Morning Pete. Robert here, up in BC Canada. I really enjoy your stuff. I don't have any genius brainwave alerts on what to include or any unexplored directions to take. I would only reiterate what you have said here... to continue being you. Your forehand putts irritate me to distraction, but that's based in jealousy... not criticism. I discovered disc golf at 68, and am now 72, so kids like you inspire me! 👴🏻👉🏻🥏⛓️
Thanks so much Robert! You keep on inspiring us all, that's awesome! Your comment made me smile today!
Can you do a Christmas Disc Golf Gift Ideas episode? Always looking for more ideas.
On my list to do a list... :D Thanks!
Love the Airplane references Pete!
I just showed my daughter airplane for the first time last week, so it was on my mind. :-)
I have trouble whenever I am forced to straddle out to the right. Or when I'm forced to spin putt under a low ceiling. All great advice here!
thanks my friend! Anybody want a peanut? (username?) :)

That is the thing i appreciate most about putting league, having to work on throwing through, around, over, or under objects. It’s more than just accuracy training. I remember someone commenting on my “dad throw”. I was so angry. I thought it was an insult (it definitely sounded like one). Only recently did i learn that it was an actual throw type. I wish my backyard was set up so that I could work on my flick putt. Happy Thanksgiving Pete.
Putting leagues are great! I am setting up some ladders and netting to practice accuracy in the garage this winter. Dad putts rule!
loved this one
Thanks so much!
Brother I’m so bad, that’s all I practice! 🤣👍 and Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Wow….throwing your hat at the basket…….hilarious! I hope you had a safe/non-eventful drive home. Thank you for the video Pete.
thanks, I enjoyed the heated seats on my back all the way home :)
Keep it up!!! I am a newbie to the sport. Enjoy your video, makes me think of different lines. Expands the mental process, going under, or overstable. Critical here in western KY, and in southern Indiana. Lots of woods in several courses
Thanks so much! welcome to the sport!
Arrrg matey it's cranky Pete😂😂😂😂😂
yep... hangry and tired... perfect time to film! Just gotta be real sometimes. :D
Speaking of hiding discs, I looked for one for twenty minutes. Was in a hole just slightly bigger than a disc, so you had to be standing over it to see it, and it was a blind throw so wasn’t sure where it was exactly
I am convinced there are gremlins in the woods that are having fun at our expense. The way some discs end up... it defies physics! :D
