      And one of the few that goes into actual details on the process. There’s videos of guys shooting ducks all over the internet…. This kind of knowledge is what we actually need.

    Looking at planting Japanese millet or rice. We are up in Wisconsin do you see a preference to rice?

    • @Yellowlab247_NC_Outdoors
      @Yellowlab247_NC_Outdoors  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes, rice seems to produce much more grain per acre AND lasts much longer into the season. millet seems to disappear pretty quick after flooding whereas rice will still be on the stalk under 2 feet of water until Feb good season. I would do Rice. Search my channel for Rice, plenty of content

    I’m in NC too, when did you plant the rice so that it would be mature when the ducks are migrating through?

    • @Yellowlab247_NC_Outdoors
      @Yellowlab247_NC_Outdoors  5 місяців тому +1

      I plant late June, first of July. There is a sweet spot there where it has 90 days to mature before frost, but not too early so that song birds and critters eat it. I would say, in general late June

      @@Yellowlab247_NC_Outdoors thank you! I was actually thinking about planting it in two stages, some now and some toward the end of June. I’m thinking that having some come up a little early might help feed ducks and ducklings sooner. We have some wood ducks with eggs in a box. Had some mallard ducklings already but they disappeared. I’m thinking turtles and other predators got them all.

      @@g22expert I will warn you, if you drain and plant early, anything you dont plant will likely fill in with sedges, grasses, weeds, etc. and cover up your good exposed soil which will effect your later planting. I have found the nutsedge fills in quick, even on a pond that has been full for years.

    You've got some good areas to really have some fun fast shooting this year. I can't wait to see some of the hunts this winter.

      Sure hope so! The swamps should produce a couple hunts. Fingers crossed we get a hunt or two out of the millet pond after not hunting it last year. Feel bad shooting the birds we likely hatched there, but all is fair in love and war

      @@Yellowlab247_NC_Outdoors I've always put out next boxes on all the beaver ponds I've shot and I just look at as I don't get them all. Besides that, you are putting back by providing nesting habitat. Oh, and that blue heron in the photo - a big killer of wood duck chicks along with bass if they are in the pond, but you drain them so that is unlikely.
