Charming, witty, a true great musician! Boy George is the most amazing Brit musician in the '80s. He's still one of my fave artists as of today.His music is still refreshing and captivating at this times.
He's an outstanding fellow. I got the opportunity to meet him briefly at a banquet in London and he was remarkably down-to-earth, funny, kind and good natured. Nothing I had expected, so glad I met him.
Boy George is great. He doesn't put on airs, pretend to someone he not. I believe is is one of the most truthful people I have seen. He is simply wonderful. I wish that someday have the privileged to meet him.
I love Boy George and Culture Club. But he wasn't the Madonna of the 80's. They had 2 huge albums in 82 and 83, and by 1985 they sharply declined, and that was that. I think overexposure, as well as weak material contributed to this. "The war song" especially started the decline of chart positions
George says that he would like to be remembered for great songs in 40 years time. I certainly will remember his songs. He's written and sung some beautiful ones. Thanks for posting this interview. Sarah

I still cannot believe that I sat on my formica kitchen table in 1982, aged 10, and talked to my mum seriously, about whether George was a boy or girl. We really didn’t know. Such was the innocence of those days. We loved George, my sister was a HUGE Culture Club fan, and my mum is from Surbiton so when we were down at the Thames there we’d often see the Karma Chameleon paddle steamer go past with great excitement. Aspel is pretty typical of interviewers of the times here, getting the cheap laughs at his expense. He was and is such an intelligent individual, but very broken. I think we’re lucky he’s still around given so many of the Blitz Kids didn’t make it. And given that he was SO out there and outwardly unselfconscious way back then in a way that people still struggle with, and are judged for even now.
This was March/April 1986, while he was in the grips of his drug addiction, From Luxury To Heartache & Move Away was released in March '86, in his book he said one of his journalist friends sold him out & wrote in the newspaper that during this interview he was erratic & clearly on drugs.
+visionof love It was at least one year after because Aspen mentions that Boy George reached No.1 and that happened in March 1987 with his version on "Everything I Own" by David Gates (his first solo hit as a solo artist and his first solo single after leaving Culture Club). We can realize now that "he was erratic & clearly on drugs" during this interview, by reading his autobiography, but I don't thing it was clear for his fans back then. There's a picture from this period in "his book" with the (same hair & make up and the) ironic subtitle "Having fun on drugs"...
